Minutes Tournament Chairman Rules
Chairman Handicap Chairman Commissioner's Report Treasurer's
Report Member/Guest Results & Special Events Thanks to
everyone who supported the Long Beach Open either by buying raffle tickets, watching or
volunteering (I know Rick Evens, John Davis and Jerry Leininger helped fill divots, and
others like Ken Louie and Alan Reinking kept their string of volunteer years in tact—if
there are others I apologize for not mentioning you, but thanks anyway).
Rich
Dennison has posted the pairings for the El Dorado Cup (formerly The Flights) and some
matches have already been played. As a
reminder, you are responsible for contacting your opponent and setting up your match.
As an absolute last resort, if you have been unable to get a starting time on your
own, you may contact the General Manager and he will attempt to arrange a weekend
afternoon starting time for you. As Tom Link
will cover in his article, our Club Championship and Flight Championships will take place
in September. We have tried this flighted,
stroke play format for several years, and feel this is the make or break year.
If we do not get sufficient participation, we will have to seriously consider
whether or not we continue this format. At the
September General Meeting, Greg O’Brien, as Chair of the Nominating Committee, will
announce a slate of the individuals interested in running for the elected positions on the
Board of Directors. If you are interested in being one of these people, please contact
Greg. In October, there will be a chance for
additional nominations from the floor, and the election will take place at the November
General Meeting. Remember to
sign up for the weekender – a return to The Old Favorite, Singing Hills – and come to
the meeting for Ricky Evans’ Fabulous Raffle. Bob Livingstone GOOD PLAYING Steve Friend made the cut in the Long Beach Men’s City Championship (“one for the old guys”, he said) shooting 1 over par for three rounds, while Jim McCullough, Phil Dauk and Jon Monat made the cut in their respective flights. Mel Collins and Mike Marmer qualified for the SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship, which will be played later this month at Mesa Verde CC. Congratulations and good luck!
The monthly meeting was held July 8, 2003 under the El Dorado Park Golf Course restaurant auxiliary tent. Your $6 got you a plateful of Mexican grub. President Livingstone called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. and led the membership in allegiance to our flag. Past Presidents in attendance: Richard Scoville, Steve Shure,
Ray McElhenney, Mike Montgomery, and Greg O’Brien. Once again, Mr. Tom Burris and Bob Livingstone once again
represented our life membership. The minutes from the last meeting and Treasurer’s report as
printed in the newsletter were accepted. Rick Evans pulled a raffle ticket out of the barrel for an
American Golf towel and a glove. Jon Monat
became the new owner of them. Three new members introduced themselves stating their name,
occupation, and presumed handicap and went on the tour with Greg O’Brien. No one from the Pro Shop was available this evening. Committee Reports: Ray McElhenney - Golf Commissioner: Ray did not have anything
to report tonight, and no one had any questions for him to answer. Jerry Leininger – Handicap: Can you believe it? Jerry
didn’t have anything to comment on tonight either. Nick Zamora – Entertainment: On August 2nd
we are playing Trilogy. Nick has 80 spots
reserved, and he has just a few spots available. Tee
times will be from 8:30 to 11:00. Nick needs
the $80 entry fee paid to him ASAP as he is going out of town this weekend for two weeks.
The weekender at Singing Hills is in September.
We will have a practice round on Friday probably with a partner better-ball blind
draw format. Saturday will be better ball and
Sunday will play as an aggregate. Towards the
end of the year we’ll be going to Rancho California, Rick Evans – Special Events: Some great shots were made at
this year’s Member-Member. Jim McCullough
had a hole-in-one and our Webmaster; Mark Miller got Closest-to-the-Pin for a nice reward
as well. This was nice to see as Mark has
been taking care of our website at no cost to the Club.
We also had a Beat-the-Pro event. Be
sure to note if your score beats the Pro so you get included in the payoffs.
Mike Vaughn asked what you are to do if you play before the Pro,
Mike Marmer – Rules: Mike marshaled during the last
tournament. He had to stop 4 groups from
illegally dropping on the #7 lake. This is
not a lateral; it is a water hazard. To properly place your ball you need to drop from the point you hit
your shot and point the ball entered the hazard, keeping the hazard between you and the
hole. Mike fielded several questions on different scenarios.
If no red line is present it is always a water hazard, not a lateral. Don Russell – News Editor: Don had nothing to comment on
tonight. Rick drew another raffle ticket for a hat and sleeve of
Titleist. Mitch Caban claimed this prize. Cairo Piercy – 9-Hole and GOM: Tom Baker and Brian Ball tied
for 3rd in the 9-hole tourney, Terry Fulford came in 2nd, while John
Lynch carded a net 29 ½ to take the gold. Cairo had several card submitted for the June Net G.O.M.
The winner was Tim “Slammer” Yee with a fine 85 – 25 for a 60!
Three cards turned in for Gross. Steve
Friend and Larry Grant shot smooth 73’s while Don Pichovich rolled in with an even par
72. Rich Dennison – Putting Contest: Did “Aces Only” tonight.
(3) Members tied with 5, while (2) more tied with 4.
El Dorado Cup signups need to be made soon. The
matches will start in August. Tom Link – Tournaments: Tom thanked everyone for their
efforts in picking up the pace of play. He
now has over 160 signed up for the Member-Guest, and has a few spots still available.
He is taking signups for the Partner-Partner.
There will be four different formats for the four 9-holes we will play.
He will be mixing it up, have a lot of fun. Think
about the Club Championship in September. The
first day will be a 3-best-ball, which will be part of our monthly tournament.
The Senior Club Championship and Flights will also be included in this compilation
of rounds. Old business – We voted last month for the Club to pick up
Jorge Badel’s entry in the Long Beach Open. Jorge wrote the Club a letter to express his appreciation for our
gesture. As part of that motion we noted that
we would be taking donations from the membership to help in this effort. New Business – The Board of Directors decided to allow new
members starting in August or after to join for $70, which does not include the $20
initiation, and wanted to le the Club know what we have done. Meeting adjourned. We held the drawing for the (3) LB Open Pro-Am spots.
The winners were Ken Louie, Cory Read, and Rob Marchegiano. They will represent El
Dorado Men’s Club at the event. Don Russell pulled the tickets from the raffle barrel and Rick
Evans handed out a lot of good prizes, hate, balls, shirts, towels, sand wedge, and cash,
plus green fees for Lakewood and Meadowlark. 50-50 drawing had $56, $28 to Eric Sasaki and $28 to Jr. Golf. Membership drawing tonight was for $110.
Number of Randy Wold was drawn. Randy
was at the meeting earlier but left before the membership drawing.
We have a lot of fun at the meetings. Be
sure to stay until the end as your number may be drawn. Next month the prize will be $120 Mike
Vaughn What great
weather we had for this years Member-Guest. We had a very good turnout for this years Event, over 180 players.
If you would like to make this a more memorable day for our guests we are open to
suggestions. This years Gross winners were
David Spencer and his Guest Ed Wilson, shooting a 2 under score of 106.
Thanks to all of you that participated, everyone seemed to have a good time and the
course was in great shape. The results for
all of the Flights are listed in the Newsletter. Our next Tournament is the Partner-Partner.
I will be taking sign ups through
August 9th. Get your application
in ASAP. The total is $150.00 per team.
If you do not have a partner, give me a call or send me an E-Mail
and I will do my best to match you up. We are combining our September Tournament with the Club
Championships. The First Day (September 6th ) will be a fivesome event, 3 best
ball. The individual scores will also count as the first round in the Championship.
We will have an open championship, Senior’s Division (50 and over) and five
different Flights. If you are 50 and over and
wish to compete in the Championship Flight, add $20.00 to your entry Fee.
You will not be able to compete in the Senior Division and the Flights
Championship!! The $120.00 entry fee
includes 3 days of Golf (September 6,7 and 13th) along with all Tournament
