Minutes Tournament Chairman I would like to thank everyone who supported the Long Beach Open; the turnout by the El Dorado Men’s Club was fantastic. Some supported by buying raffle tickets, filling divots, volunteering or just coming down to watch. Ken Louie kept his “Raffle” streak in tack by winning again this year (how many is that?) The other two winners were Bob Breen and Darry Bush. El Dorado Men’s Club was well represented in the field and four of the teams cashed. 1st Place Gross, 1st Place Net and 3rd and 4th place net. It seemed like we were at one of our Men’s Club tournaments. Dennis Tramer has posted the pairings for the flighted match play Championships. It is your responsibility to contact your opponent and set up your individual match. The first matches must be completed in the month of August. If you are unable to get a starting time call Dennis or try to make arrangements with the General Manager, we will make every attempt to arrange an afternoon starting time for you. The Partner-Partner Tournament is about full, contact Rich Dennison if you have not entered and he will attempt to get you a spot. We will not have the flights in the Club Championship this year due to lake of participation over the past two years. This years September Tournament (9-18) will be limited to 160 players. We will start on the 1st tee and the 10th tee with a BBQ and Raffle to follow. There will be a drawing for spots in the Tournament, be at the meeting to get you team in. The Club Championships and Senior Club Championships will be contested over 54 holes this year. The dates will be 9-19, 25 & 26th of September. See Bob Livingstone for the details. We will also be announcing the slate of individuals interested in running for elected positions on the Board of Directors. If you have any interest in serving please talk to any current Board member or see Bob Livingstone at the meeting. Our weekender is going back to Singing Hills this year, always a great time. The number of spaces available is limited, see Nick Zamora for the details. Get out to a meeting, get involved, it’s a great men’s club Tom Link
The monthly meeting was held July 13, 2004 under the El Dorado Park Golf Course restaurant auxiliary tent. The restaurant provided beef ribs, chicken breasts, rice, and baked beans tonight for your nominal donation of $6. Members had their last chance to purchase raffle tickets to participate in the Long Beach Pro-Am. The drawing for three players will be held tonight. President Tom Link called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. and led the membership in allegiance to our flag. Past Presidents in attendance: Tom Conlisk, Richard Scoville, Steve Shure, Don Marmion, Ray McElhenney, Greg O’Brien, and Bob Livingstone. Bob Livingstone, Fred Gibson once again represented our life membership. The minutes from the last meeting and Treasurer’s report as printed in the newsletter were accepted. Pres. Link wanted to recognize our members who have been playing in the tournaments outside of our Club. Mel Collins finished 3rd in the U.S. Senior, while Larry Grant and Bob Forster both played in the Amateur Seniors. American Golf has Jay Carballo here tonight to discuss current conditions, while Mez White noted they are doing all they can to get it the course in proper condition before the LB Open. Our greens are sandy now and getting lots of water. Mez claims they are getting better every day. Jay noted that they are trying to get the roots to go deeper in the soil. This is a long-term effort. Crows have been a problem. This is being addressed. Jay thanked us for having him attend the meeting. Pres. Link thanked him for being our guest. There were (3) new members at tonight’s meeting. They went with Bob Livingstone for the informative tour. Committee Reports: Ray McElhenney – Golf Commissioner: Skylinks is set to open October 1. The Commissioners were just invited to a walk through. Ray pointed out that proposals are in approval for rate increases. They are meeting again Monday July 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Rec. Park. These meetings are open to everyone. Anyone who would like to voice a concern is guaranteed 2 minutes to do so. Rick Evans – Special Events: Some members are playing without a guest this Saturday, but they can participate in Special Events. Be sure that whoever turns in the scorecards notes any birdies or eagles. Rick then told a joke about a fairy tale. Jerry Leininger – Handicap Chairman: The committee is still reviewing the process we currently use. See any of them if you have a concern. Next month more will follow. Nick Zamora – Entertainment: August 7 we play the So. California PGA course for the Championship tees (Blue markers). The cost of $85 is a great deal. Nick will be leaving the state for 2 weeks on the next Monday so Dennis Tramer will be doing the tourney payoffs and taking signups for the Weekender. We will be going back to the old boring format that the Weekender had before Nick became Entertainment Director (Nick bowed to the pressure. Yours truly would have never thought that would happen, as his format was a good change. Everyone had to play golf their’ best golf for the whole round. Isn’t that what we’re there for?). Mel Collins – Rules: Discussed a situation about a ball falling off of the tee while swinging at a ball with intent to strike the ball. The player picked the ball up and re-teed. What is the penalty? A lot of discussion followed. Don Russell – News Editor: Don had nothing to comment upon. Mike Marmer – Director: Putting Contest – Lynn Watkins won the event at 3 under for $36, and four tied for 2nd place (Todd Thiele, Larry Grant, Mel Collins, and Greg Lester) for $10 each. There was a lot of participation in the G.O.M. last month. Gene Scott’s net 71 started the long list of also ran. Steve Shure took top honors with a fine 77 – 13 for a 64. The gross field also had several also ran. Ted Burrows claimed the top prize with a 67. Mike noted Ted took a bogey on 18 when he attempted to hit a 5-Iron into 18 for his second shot and ended up in the lake. Dennis Tramer – Director: Flights tournament is fast approaching. He needs 6 more players to complete the 64-player field. We will play to our current L.I. Entry fee is $10. Tonight’s 9-hole tourney had 20 players. 3rd place and $20 with a 34 ˝ went to Mike Morrison, 2nd place and $30 for a 33 ˝ to David Pemberton, and 1st place and $50 for a 33 went to Tom Link. Rich Dennison – Tournaments: The Member-Guest is full. We have almost 100 teams this year. Rich will work to squeeze everyone in. Format will be Better Ball on the front and Aggregate on the back. 99 was the winning score last year. Rich noted that the Partner-Partner will fill up fast and recommends everyone to sign up early. We will have four different formats for this 36-hole event. The September tourney will have a prize raffle, with a lot of prizes. Cost will be $50 per player. There will be a Bar-B-Q and outside bar. The tourney will play off of split tees. Old Business: Bob Livingstone discussed the Hole-In-One fund. See him if you have not re-insured. Elections of Board of Directors will take place n November. We will announce the Board’s selection of candidates in September, take nominations from the floor in October, and hold the elections at the November General Meeting. New Business: Raffle for L.B. Open was held. Don Marmion pulled the tickets for our three winners. The lucky winners were Bob Breen, Ken Louie, and Darry Bush. Bob, Ken, and Darry will be teamed up with a pro. Good luck guys! Meeting adjourned. Raffle tickets continued to be sold. As always, we gave away a lot of prizes that included golf balls, towels, range cards, gloves, a 56-degree wedge, hats and more. 50-50 was $64 tonight. The winner was Tom Baker. That was a quick $32 for Tom and $32 for Jr. Golf. The membership drawing tonight was for $100. The number of Jay Robinson was drawn. Jay was not at the meeting. The prize will increase to $110 next month.

Vaughn The weather was hot, the rough was up, the course was playing tuff, the scores were up, the company was outstanding and I think everyone had a good time. I guess it takes a member guest tournament to have some new names in the winners circle, I want to thank everyone who played in this years Member-Guest, It was a huge success with 91 teams showing up. Gross was won by John Hasselman and Steve Coffey with a score of 111. In the A-flight the team of Steve Shure and Craig Thomas won with a score of 100. The B-Flight winners are Richard Scoville and Richard Geismar with a score of 103. In the C-Flight Al Kuroda and Eric Holmes won with a very impressive 100. Congratulations to every one who cashed. August 14th & 15th is our Partner/Partner Tournament on Sat we will play the front nine as a cross over. Example: par 4 you both tee off then you each hit each others drive then you choose the ball you want to play and you alternate till the ball is holed. The back nine is an alternate shot; you decide who will tee off on the even holes and who tees off on the odd number holes Alternate shot till hole is completed. Sunday front nine partners better ball, back nine aggregate (count them all). I will be taking signups at the August 10th meeting if there are any times left. Be sure to come to the August 10th meeting to sign up your team for the September BBQ and Raffle tournament. We will be playing a 5 man team event, 2 best balls on 3s 3 best balls on 4s 4 best balls on 5s. There is only a limited amount of tee times because we are going to be teeing off from 1 & 10. The cost of the Tournament is $50 per player you do not need to be present to win a raffle prize. The tournament fee includes BBQ, Drink, green fee, prize fund and raffle chance Remember to come to the meeting to sign up at the August Meeting. Rich
