President's Corner

Thanks to all of you that joined us for our annual Christmas Tourney.  The Weather was cold but the rain held out until the Tournament was completed.  I cannot say the same for the Derby’s.  After the Tournament was completed A few brave soles ventured out into the rain, (I can’t believe we did that).  It rained for a couple of holes but we were able to finish and remain relatively dry.  I would like to again thank the Board members and all others for there support, it could not have happened without the many hours that it takes to put on this Tournament.  Thanks Again.

I have posted the winning team on the website and the results are in the newsletter, congratulations to all of you that cashed, I hope that everyone had a great time.

Rich Dennison will be the Tournament Director next year; He has already taken sign ups for the January Tournament at the December meeting.  If you are not in the Tournament and wish to get on the list give him a call.

I hope that each of you had an enjoyable Holiday season and Happy New Year; I look forward to next year as your President.

Best wishes to all

Tom Link
President

Meeting Minutes

The monthly meeting was held December 9, 2003 under the El Dorado Park Golf Course restaurant auxiliary tent.  The restaurant offered a combination of pasta dishes for your generous donation of $6.  President Bob Livingstone called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. and led membership in allegiance to our flag.

Past Presidents in attendance: Tom Conlisk, Richard Scoville, Steve Shure, Don Marmion, Ray McElhenney, Mike Montgomery, and Greg O’Brien.

Our life membership group consisted of Bob Livingstone and Fred Gibson.

The minutes from the last meeting and Treasurer’s report as printed in the newsletter were accepted.

Several new members introduced themselves and went on the introductory tour with Greg O’Brien.

Rick Evans thanked everyone for the support that has been provided this year.  We have sold so many tickets for tonight’s raffle that Dennis Tramer needed to be sent to get more.

It was reported that someone with a Chevy Malibu in the parking lot has left the lights on.

Committee Reports:

Ray McElhenney – Commissioner: A report has been placed in this month’s Newsletter. No one had any questions.

Jerry Leininger – Handicaps: Effective December 1 we will be on-line with SCGA for posting of our scores.  If you make a mistake in posting be sure to contact Jerry immediately so proper correction can be made.

Nick Zamora – Entertainment: We have some new courses to play next year.  February 1, Super Bowl Sunday, is scheduled for our first away trip.  Nick is trying to change that date with the course.  Be sure to sign up for the away trips as a single or with a group.  Away trips are always a lot of fun.

Mike Marmer – Rules: A lot of changes have been made in the 2004 Rules.  Supposedly they are to make the rules easier to read and understand.  Mike handed out sheets that covered the spectrum of the changes (clubs, loose impediments, etiquette, claims and disputes, amateur status, and immovable obstructions).  Most of the changes are with the wording.  Mike welcomed Mel Collins into the Rules Chair position.  Mel will have this duty for 2004.

Rick Evans called for the tickets in the crowd that have “eagle”, “birdie” and “par” marked on their back side.  Bill Jackson had the eagle for $15 and Ed Fernandez had the birdie for $10.  No one claimed the par ticket.

Rich Dennison – The El Dorado Cup matches have been completed.  We started with 64 players.  The winners and runners up are as follows:

President Cup; Bob Livingstone and Mel Collins

Vice President Cup; Wayne McGhee and Tom Gleim

Secretary Cup; Fred Blanton and Rick Evans

Treasurer Cup; Ruben Gonzales and Mark Harrison

Rich went on to thank everyone for the support that was given to him this year, and for electing him to serve as the Vice President next year.  The January tournament will be a scramble.  10 people were called for the January sign up.

Cairo Piercy – GOM: November Gross winner was Al Ostberg who shot a 1-under 71.  Net went to Jim Baird who shot a nice 80 – 17 for a 63.

Tom Link – Tournaments: Be sure to be at the course NLT 7:00 am Sunday morning for sign up.  Derbies will follow the regular tournament.  Tom went on to identify who was running the derbies and inquired if spots were still available.  It was noted that anyone playing in a derby must have also been playing in the Christmas tournament.

President Livingstone asked the winners of the El Dorado Cup to meet off to the side to get pictures taken with their plaques.

New Business – Jerry Leininger informed the Club that SCGA is in the process of identifying its’ members who have multiple association affiliations (i.e. NCGA, etc…) in order to incorporate them into the real-time score posting format that starts Dec. 1.

Pres. Livingstone called for Tom Link to come forward for the ceremonial transfer of gavel to our new President.  Tom is excited about his upcoming role as our President.

Old Business – There was none.

Meeting adjourned.

Dennis Tramer returned with the raffle tickets and more were sold before the numbers were drawn.  Mike Marmer, Jerry Leininger, and John Davis pulled the tickets. Pres. Livy called them out. Rick Evans and Dan Ahearn distributed the prizes to the winners.   Lots of great prizes were won tonight which included golf equipment, money, and liquor.  Several prizes were donated by the membership.  Don Pichovich and Tom Bentele just to name a couple.

We collected $90 for the 50-50 raffle tonight.  Dave Finkes had the lucky number that got him a quick $45, while the other $45 went to Jr. Golf.

The membership drawing was worth $160 tonight.  It had not been won all year.  The first number pulled from the can matched the member number of John Lynch.  John was at the meeting and graciously accepted a check from our Treasurer, Al Ostberg.

As your Membership Chairman I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Our January Scramble is full & I have people on the stand by list. I want to thank all of you who had money in hand & a list of  your group, it really makes signing up easy. Be sure to have filled out your lottery ticket before the 7pm start of the general meeting. If you have questions or need information about a home tournament please call  562-822-2659. I am going to try a little different format for the January Scramble. The normal two drives for each player, but I am  also going to change the putting.

EXAMPLE
Decide your player rotation A B C D E Hole  # 1 player A putts, misses, player B goes to where player A missed and putts it in the hole, move on to Hole # 2 player C putts he makes it move on to Hole #3  player D putts, misses, player E goes to where player D missed and putts he misses player A goes to where player D missed and putts it in the hole, move on to hole #4 player B putts so on and so on and so on.
Hope to see you all at the January 13th meeting.

Handicap Chairman's Report

The Board of Directors has approved our handicap schedule for 2004. The schedule has been posted on the bulletin board in the hallway for all Club events. Please take a few minutes to review this schedule. Questions regarding which handicap to play and how to post will be answered for you. Here is a brief summary of the schedule:

Monthly Tournaments, Away trips, Member Guest, Club Championship (Medal), our Weekender, and the Christmas Tournament will be played to the lowest of your current, or Tournament Handicap.

El Dorado Cup (match), Member – Member, and Partner –Partner, will be played the lowest of your Low Index (handicap) or Tournament Handicap.

Post “ T” scores for the Club Championship, and “count  ‘em all” rounds of the Weekender, Member-Member, and Partner- Partner.

All other tournaments will be posted as a “ Regular “ score.

I will make sure you are notified before club events but this schedule should eliminate a lot of questions as we go through the 2004 season.

As a reminder, please make sure to post all rounds you play. Posting ALL your adjusted scores is the only way to establish handicaps that will make our tournaments as fair as possible for everyone. The handicap Committee will be posting Penalty Rounds for all rounds not posted. If you cannot post or forget to post, please call me and I will post for you. You have 48 hours after your round to post or notify me before a Penalty round is given.

Thank you for your consideration and cooperation.

Jerry Leininger
Handicap Chairman
