Meeting Minutes

The monthly meeting was held August 10, 2004 under the El Dorado Park Golf Course restaurant auxiliary tent.  The restaurant provided Oriental beef, rice, and veggies tonight for your $6 donation.  President Tom Link called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and led the membership in allegiance to our flag.

Past Presidents in attendance: Tom Conlisk, Richard Scoville, Steve Shure, Don Marmion, Mike Montgomery, Greg O’Brien, and Bob Livingstone.

Tom Burris, Bob Livingstone, Fred Gibson represented our life membership.

The minutes from the last meeting and Treasurer’s report as printed in the newsletter were accepted.

Pres. Link wanted everyone to know that Bob Livingstone is taking renewals for the Hole-In-One insurance.  If you have not renewed be sure to see Bob.

There were no new members at tonight’s meeting.

Pres. Link introduced John (JD) Davis as the Saturday Team Play captain.  JD thanked the ‘Board for letting him have this opportunity.  Paul Wildy will be his co-captain.  JD also thanked Jim Baber for the two years as his co-captain.  Clipboard will be in the hallway for sign up.  JD will call the first 48.  The same criterion used for qualifying the last two years will be used.

Pres. Link then introduced Roger Scaife as out Thursday team captain.  Roger expects the team to do very well this year.  His co-captain will be Larry Lipman.

There was no Commission meeting this month. Skylinks is still set to open October 1.

Mike Vaughn noted to the membership that SCGA has established new guidelines and set new dates for 2005 renewals.  Members need to have their renewals turned in NLT November 1.  All Clubs are to have their 2005 roster submitted to them no later than November 15.  This will establish our January, 2005 SCGA member roster.  Any 2004 member not on this roster will not be able to post scores as of January 1, as well as not be eligible for Team Play and other SCGA events that require one-year continuous membership.  Those same persons will not be receiving the January Fore magazine and their’ 2005 membership card.  Be sure to have your renewals in before November 1st.  Mike added, 2005 renewal cards for email newsletter recipients will be available at this week’s tournament, and mailed next week to those who did not get one this weekend.

Committee Reports:

Rick Evans – Special Events: Rick noted that Mike Marmer is to run Sweeps this weekend.  There will be a Sweep for each set of 9-holes at $5 per player, plus $5 Special Events per player each day.  Be sure to note birdies to the tournament table when you submit your scorecard.  We will have a raffle at the September tourney.  You do not have to be present to win.  The Saturday tournament is not part of this year’s Club Championship.  We will be playing split tees.

Jerry Leininger – Handicap Chairman: The Handicap Committee proposed a plan to the Board of Directors that was not accepted.  They will be reviewing the options at hand preparing a new plan.  If you have any suggestions be sure to see Jerry or any of the H/C Committee members. This Saturday is not a postable score, but Sunday will be posted as a Tournament round.

Dennis Tramer – Director: Dennis noted that next month the 9-hole tournament will be played from the white rocks.  Winners today were 3rd place Tony Jimenez, 2nd place Ruben Gonzales, and the winner Bob Breen.  Dennis then covered the Away events for Nick Zamora who is out of state.  This year’s weekender will be at Singing Hills October 8 – 10.  The 8th is optional if you want to play.  $100 deposit is due ASAP, with the balance due at the course.  We have regressed back to the old format.  Last Saturday we played at the PGA course in Beaumont.  The weather was not all that hot.  Dennis then handed out the prize special event and position prize monies.

Mel Collins – Rules: Mel discussed the ruling that is applied if you have picked your ball from off of the green and then accidentally drop it and it hits your bag and goes into the water and can not be found.  It is treated as a lost ball.

Mike Marmer – Director: Putting Contest – No Gross cards were submitted this month.  (2) Net cards were from Mike Gilmore (77 – 10 = 67), and Don Marmion (77 –13 = 64).  Don is this month’s winner.  The Putting Contest had a lot of winners who tied with the best score.  As for the Sweeps this weekend you can enter either day, both, or none, your choice.

Rich Dennison – Tournaments: Saturday we will be crossing over one the front nine then playing alternate shot on the back.  September we’ll be back to having a raffle.  The format will be 2 scores on the par 3, 3 scores on par 4, and 4 scores on the par 5 holes, starting on both the 1st and 10th holes in a split tee formation.  Speed of play is important.  Be sure to keep up with the team in front of you, do not lose sight.  Prizes will be awarded after the tournament.  Lots of merchandise and cash.  We will give away everything that we take in from ticket sales.  There will be a stand by list if you don’t get at time tonight.  Rich called the first 10 names for persons to get their’ times following the end of the meeting.

Old Business: None

New Business: The sprinkler heads have been marked to the distance to the center of the green.  The club agreed earlier in the year that this would be a good addition and that we would contribute a portion of the cost.  It appears this cost will be approximately $1,000.  Cairo Piercy noted these sprinklers need to be groomed, as finding them is almost very difficult as they are over grown with grass.  Tom Bentele wants to have a name for our Club, such as El Dorado Bandits.  Pres. Link asked Tom if he would like to form a committee for this concern.  Lastly, be sure to be at the course on time Saturday as no public is going out in front of us this weekend.

Meeting adjourned.

Raffle tickets continued to be sold. Dennis Tramer selected the prize, Rick Evans called the number, and Don Russell handed out them out.  As always, we gave away a lot of prizes that included golf balls, towels, range cards, gloves, hats and more.

50-50 was $48 tonight.  The winner was George Manyak.  That was a quick $22 for Tom and $24 for Jr. Golf.

The membership drawing tonight was for $110.  The number of Ted Burrows was drawn.  Ted was not at the meeting.  The prize will increase to $120 next month.

Another great weekend of Golf was had by everyone, we are so fortunate to live in Southern California; it seems we always have great weather and good people to enjoy our golf with. I want to thank the Board of Directors and Donna Yeager along with Mike Montgomery for all there hard work, with out them these Golf Tournaments wouldn’t happen. A big hand to Mike Marmer for doing the Sweeps I think we found another job for him in the future.

The Gross Flight was won by a new partnership, Mel Collins and Tom Link teamed up for a nice win at 181.

The A-Flight was won by an old couple, Al Ostberg and Greg Lester I guess old couples can get along Good score guys 172 ½.

The B-Fight was won by Brad Louie and Ron Maden This Partnership lit up the score board with a nice 169 ½ great score guys nice to see new names in the winners circle.

The C-Flight was won by Bill Jackson and Paul Dukich on a card off, the C-Flight is always a tough Flight, good win with your 1751/2.

The September BBQ and Raffle has a full field. Remember to come to the Golf Course early, we will be on time, you also have to look at your score card to see witch tee you will start at 1 or 10. There will be Raffle tickets for sale at the table in the morning also at the meeting on September 14th you need not be present to win.

Commissioner's Report

Well Gentlemen after a month off from my duties as your Commissioner I got back in the saddle a few days ago. Some basic information to pass along and then on to the fees recommendations. I will give you some numbers for both June and July. During June the rounds for all the courses were down 1%. The year to date % was up by 3.43%. For June El Dorado was down 1.87%. Yearly % was up 8.03%. Revenue generated was still very positive, with over 1.2 million. July rounds for all the course was down by 2.56%. The year to date numbers were up by 2.46%. El dorado for July was down 6.66%, with the open and other events being played at our course that % is expected. For the yearly %  we were up 5.61%. Again generated was over 1.1 million.

Nothing to report on the C.P.I. funds. Junior Golf  has over 73 thousand in that "KITTY". The club hours are in line. Skylinks is still on schedule. The club house renovation has seen some set backs, and as I have stated prior, that will not be ready for the opening day. If you did not know Mez White is on a medical leave and is expected back at the end of September. For now Jay Caballo is looking over our courses operations. As I stated in my last article American Golf sent a proposal to the  City as well as to the Commission. We have had several public meetings, as well as some committee meetings. The recommendation to the City is as follows. All courses convert back to a single pricing structure. All courses will be priced at the current fee structure of El Dorado. The green fees will be increased on 10/01/2004 based on the CPI of 5.37%. All the other programs such as the senior and junior fees are to remain the same. No increase to any of the other proposed by American Golf, such as cart fees, photo fees, range fees etc. There is also an alternative plan and that being a 3 tier situation, but that is only there as a possible back up. Keep in mind we recommend to the City. They will have the final word. Whatever the decision is the fees have to be posted 2 weeks prior to 10/01/2004. That should just about do it for this edition???!!!  See you at our general meeting.
