Minutes Tournament Chairman No report this month. Tom Link
The monthly meeting was held May 10, 2005 under the El Dorado Park Golf Course restaurant auxiliary tent. The restaurant provided a food selection of baked ham, turkey breast, yams, salad bar, and a dessert tonight for your nominal donation of $6. President Tom Link called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and led the membership in allegiance to our flag. He then expressed thanks to Callaway for their participation in the demo day and donation of clubs. Past Presidents in attendance: Tom Conlisk, Richard Scoville, Steve Shure, Ray McElhenney, Mike Montgomery, Greg O’Brien, and Bob Livingstone. Life members present at the start of the meeting were Tom Burris, Fred Gibson, and Bob Livingstone. The Minutes and Treasurer’s report as printed in the newsletter were accepted. Six (6) new members introduced themselves, stating name, occupation, and presumed handicap. Mike Montgomery took them on the Club information tour. Our guest speaker tonight was Alfredo from Callaway. He appeared to be very excited about their’ new 3-piece ball that is hot off the club head and plays like a 2-piece around the greens, and their’ new 454 driver. The 2004 long drive champion played the 454. Alfredo fielded questions from the membership. It was noted that the balls they sell to the public are the same balls the pros use (he claims which is not the case with Titleist). He noted several of the Champions Tour players that play Callaway with no sponsorship. Winner of the Callaway driver was Jim Fuchs. The winner of the Odyssey putter will be disclosed later in the meeting. Committee Reports: Doug Jones – Special Events: Doug clarified that the handicap to use in Special Events is your current, not the tournament or 80%. Jerry Leininger – Handicap: Jerry reminded everyone that this weekend we will play at L.I., and post regular score on Saturday and Tournament score on Sunday. Nick Zamora – Entertainment: The weekender will be a shotgun start on both Saturday and Sunday. Players need to get their $100 deposit to Nick ASAP. The more people we get to pay the weekender, the better Temecula Creek will treat us. The package is $300.00 + tournament fees. It includes 3 days of golf, 2 nights lodging, plus the 9-hole tourney on Saturday afternoon. Our bus trip is scheduled for May 21 to Soboba Springs. Format to be 2 on par 3, 3 on par 4, and 4 on par 5 holes for cost of $70 each. The bus leaves at 5:30 am, be sure to get here early. June 11 we go to Eagle Glen. The cost for that one is $95. Pres. Link commented that Bill Cooper donated 100 balls, plus range card for the Member-Member tournament. We have a new G.M., Larry Miller. Larry has been with American Golf for the last 5 years working in South Orange County and is excited about being here. Mike Marmer – Communications: Nothing to report on tonight. Rick Evans – Director: The winner of the Odyssey putter was Roman Gonzales. Rick noted there was great participation in the putting contest. 1st place Alex Gay, 2nd was a tie between Paul Wildy and Phil Dauk. April GOM’s as follows: Net Ed Lane (62), Gross Jim Fuchs (73). Dennis Tramer – Director: Dennis reported on the 9-hole tourney and Quad Club tonight. Dennis expressed thanks to everyone who came out for the event and to those that helped him. Once again, we retain the trophy. Score was El Do 75, Skylinks 60, Lakewood 59, Rec Park 42. We had (15) 3-point winners. We also played net skins. The only bird that took honors was Tom Conlisk on 2 where he does not get a stroke. There were 4 net eagles, plus Grant Gonneville made a gross eagle on 4. Results of today’s 9-hole event were 1st Dennis Smith, 2nd Terry Fulford, and 3rd Tim Yee. Rich Dennison – Tournaments: Friday night there will be a putting / chipping event at the Pairings Party. We will be playing from the blues both days. To win this event members are required to have played 3 previous Men’s Club events this year. Rich has times for Father’s Day. Note that if you sign up for the Father’s Day play you are responsible for the time. Any cancellation must be made at least 48 hours in advance of play or you will owe for that time. Our next tourney will be a 4-club playing from the white tees and at current index. Old Business: None New Business: Tom Bentele has a friend stationed in Bosnia. They have a 4-hole course, but the range only has 3 clubs. Tom wants to send him some clubs next Monday. Anyone with extra clubs is asked to donate them in the club collection bin at the Member-Member tournament. Meeting adjourned. Raffle tickets continued to be sold. Doug Jones drew the tickets from the drum, called the numbers, and handed out the prizes. Prizes included all the usual goodies. 50-50 was $80 tonight. The winner was Dan Zenovka. That was a quick $40 for Da and $40 for Jr. Golf. The membership drawing tonight was for $50. The number of Keith Kent was drawn. Keith was not at the meeting. Next month the prize will increase to $60.

Al
Ostberg No report this month. Nick Zamora Well yet another month comes to an end!!. Our meeting was very long, but with basically the same items being discussed. First the rounds of golf. For all the courses during April the play was slightly down at 5.07%. Our course was down 12.78%. The year to date figures were as follows. Our course down 21.23% and for all the courses down 5.93%. The dollars grossed through the month were at slightly over 1.4 million, with $360 thousand going to the city. The C.I.P. funds are at $242 grand, again this is mainly there for the re-payment for the bond. Jr. Golf is still very much in the black. That account stands at $80 thousand plus a few dollars. At our course you have noticed some tree trimming??? Well that project is expected to last almost through the end of July?? There is some sand coming for our traps, so I was informed by American Golf. As I mentioned last month, if there are any upgrading projects you would like to see done at our layout, please let me know. I was asked about having a chalk type board at our driving range. This would be updated daily showing the yardage from the teeing areas to the flags. This is an idea that I have passed onto the G.M. at our course. He was very interested , so maybe with some follow up this project will take place?? The G.P.S. system has been installed at Skylinks. The cost is $1.00 dollar per golfer. No there is no option, if you play Skylinks, and ride, you will be paying one additional dollar. That system will not be activated for any sanctioned tournaments. As I said nothing really big happening, so I will end this update now. See you at the meeting. Ray McElhenney I first want to thank the members for their cooperation in posting all their scores carefully. The number of calls I receive to change a score or to make changes has been very reasonable. (I know I just put the curse on myself) I thought I’d review a few questions I have received recently. New members – You will receive your SCGA number on the monthly Index Report. The report is posted every month in the hallway on the Men’s Club Bulletin Board. If you do not find your name on that list the month after you joined, please contact Mike Vaughn or myself and we’ll check it out. Once you get your SCGA number, post every score on the computer at the course you played. If you forget to post, or the computer is not available call me and I will post for you. It is important that I get your name/ SCGA number, the date, golf course played, adjusted score, course rating and slope or I will not be able to post for you. Once you name is on the Index Report, look for your 2005 member ID card. The cards are stored in the drawer under the posting computer in the pro shop. Please feel free to look at the sheets to find yours. T scores – The tournament committee will advise when to post as a Tournament Round. Just because you play in a monthly tournament, chances are we are NOT posting a Tournament score. Check at the sing- in table or look at your scorecard. We try to make it as clear as possible. If you still have a question…… then ask. Rulebooks – I received a limited number of” The Rules of Golf” booklet published by the USGA. This should be a “must have “ for your golf bag. I’ll have them available at the next meeting and our June tournament on a first come first serve basis. Thanks again and ….. Hit ‘em long and straight and POST YOUR SCORES… Jerry Leininger No report this month. Bob Livingstone
