Minutes Tournament Chairman The summer is fast coming to a close but our activities are in full swing. We have just started the El Dorado Cup “Flights” matches and the first round should be completed by the end of August. Our September Tournament and Raffle is on the 17th of September, hope all of you were able to get in. This year we have separated the “Club Championship” into three separate categories, Championship division (8.4 index or lower to qualify), Seniors (50 and over) and net flight division. The competition will be held over 3 days, two separate weekends, if you feel that you have the game sign up. It is time to sign up for “Team Play” again. If you are interested there will be a sign up sheet in the hallway for both Saturday and Thursday. If you do sign up be prepared to play in all the team tryouts. The Golf course was in great shape for our Partner-Partner. Eddie has taken a lot of heat about the rough, but the greens are the best that I have seen for quite some time. Give him some slack on the rough, he is going to get it cut down. We are nearing election time. The Nominating Committee Chairman Mike Montgomery is seeking interested members that will be announced as part of the Slate of Candidates during the September Meeting. If you have questions or feel that you would like to serve on the Board please contact any of the current members of the Board. The 9 hole and putting contest will continue through October, show up early and give both a try, remember that you must play with a member to be eligible to win in the 9 hole. I encourage all of you to attend the meeting. Becky does a great job with the food, try your hand in the putting contest and sign up for the “dreaded” Orange Ball Tournament.

The monthly meeting was held August 9, 2005 under the El Dorado Park Golf Course restaurant auxiliary tent. The restaurant provided a food selection of food; beef fajitas, cheese enchiladas, rice, beans, and salad for your $6 donation. President Tom Link called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and led the membership in allegiance to our flag. Past Presidents in attendance: Richard Scoville, Steve Shure, Don Marmion, Ray McElhenney, Mike Montgomery, Greg O’Brien, and Bob Livingstone. Life members present were Tom Burris, Bob Livingstone, and Fred Gibson. The Minutes and Treasurer’s report as printed in the newsletter were accepted. No new members were at the meeting tonight. Committee Reports: No one from El Dorado / American Golf was at the meeting tonight, no update on activities or plans. Golf Commission – Ray McElhenney: Randy Kervin wanted Ray to give a speech; it was “No Comment”. Special Events – Doug Jones: Scrip from the Member-Guest is not ready yet. We are fast coming up to the September raffle. The Club is open to donations of items to give as prizes. Jerry Leininger – Handicap: Jerry fielded questions from the membership, none were asked. Nick Zamora – Entertainment: The Weekender is fast approaching and about to be closed for sign up. A few persons still have not paid the $100 deposit. Those persons need to get the deposit to him ASAP. If your wife / girlfriend are planning to play be sure to let Nick know on which days. He still has a couple single spots available. See him immediately if you want to participate. This will be the best weekender in many years, no doubt about it. The next away trip after the Weekender will be to the SCGA course at Rancho California on November 6. Cost will be $75. Next year’s courses are being defined now. See him if you have a special place in mind and want it to be considered. Mel Collins - Rules: Jim Fuchs discussed two (2) people being in the same bunker and the option of raking the sand to create the same lie as before the first person hit. Communications – Mike Marmer: Not present. Mike Montgomery – Past President: Next month the Board of Director’s slate for the 2006 Officers will be announced. Nominations from the floor for others wanting to run for the positions will be taken at the October meeting. The elections will be in November. President Link announced to the membership that the ‘Board is recommending we reduce the cost of 2005 membership for the rest of the year from $90 to $60 for those who join on or after August 1. Motion made, carried, and almost unanimously approved. Rich Dennison – Tournaments: The Partner-Partner tournament format is not the same as last year. Saturday will be a Scramble on the front with a Crisscross on the back. You will be playing to 1/3rd of your handicap with at least 3 tee shots being required from each player on the scramble side. Sunday front nine Better Ball with Aggregate on the back. We have 22 times starting at 6:30am. We will be playing split tees. There seems to be a lot of interest in the Net Club Championship. Rich reminded the members to have their teams listed on the tournament signup sheet when they see him for the times. The Crisscross replaces the Alternate Shot used last year. Dennis Tramer – Director: Larry Grant won tonight’s Putting Contest with 3 Aces for $28. Dave Pemberton, Tom Herrin, Alex Gay, Chris Benes, and Steve Giroux all tied for 2nd making 2 for $5 each. GOM for July were as follows: Net – Jack Wilemon with a 31 ½. There was a tie for Gross between Terry Henson and Wayne McGhee. Wayne won on the card off. Flights matches are in process. Dennis is trying to work with the Pro Shop in helping us get our matches played. Pres. Link read 20 names for order of signing up for the September meeting. That process will start immediately following meeting adjournment. Old Business: None Raffle tickets continued to be sold. Prizes included all the usual goodies, balls, hats, range cards, etc… Doug Jones drew the tickets from the drum and called the numbers while Dan Ahern passed out the prizes. 50-50 was $48 tonight. The winner was Reggie Collins. That was a quick $28 for Reggie and $28 for Jr. Golf. Meeting adjourned. The membership drawing tonight was for $80. The number of Mike Pircher was drawn. Mike was not at the meeting. Next month the prize will increase to $90.

Vaughn Another great weekend of Golf was had by everyone, we are so fortunate to live in Southern California; it seems we always have great weather and good people to enjoy our golf with. I want to thank the Board of Directors and Bob Livingstone for all there hard work, with out them these Golf Tournaments wouldn’t happen. A big hand to Mike Marmer for doing the Sweeps. I think we found another job for him. The Gross Flight was won by the partnership of Brett Holloway and Mark Perry, they teamed up and shot a great score of 171. The A-Flight was won by Russell Harder and Mike Drew they are a new team this year they had the low net score with a very nice 163.4. The B-Fight was won by a new partnership Brian O’Malley and Mike (Spunky) Hasselman with a score of 165.8. The C-Flight was won by Rodney Sung and Rob Marchegiano with a nice score of 168.8 nice to see new names in the winner’s circle. The September BBQ and Raffle has a full field. Remember to come to the Golf Course early, we will be on time, you also have to look at your score card to see witch tee you will start at 1 or 10. There will be Raffle tickets for sale at the table in the morning also at the meeting on September 13th you need not be present to win. The Club Championships start on September 18th you must sign up for the club championship, the senior championship or the Flights by the September 13th meeting. The Dreaded Orange Ball Tournament in October is coming up, so be sure to come to the meeting September 13th to sign up your team this is a popular tournament so get your whole team to the meeting. Al
Ostberg No report this month. Nick Zamora Well after a one month dark period, the golf commission met this past Wednesday. First we re-elected Skip Rowland as the Chair, and Phil Barlow as the Vice Chair. Both of these gentleman do a great job. I will again be on the Jr. Golf committee and the Hall of Fame committee. The rounds of golf for June were down for all the courses by 5.16%. The year to date % was down 16.37. Our course for June was down 8.14%, and for the year down 16.68%. During the month of July the rounds were again down for all the courses by 1.19%, and for the year down 14.02%. El Dorado for July was down 7.92%, and the yearly totals were down by 15.82%. Our C.I.P. funds are at 488 thousand, and as a reminder the majority of that goes to the bond repayment program. The Jr. Golf Program is doing well with a bank account in excess of 90 grand!!. Revenue generated by the courses is okay with 1.5 million in June, and 1.6 million in July. There will be a new member on the commission starting next month. He will be taking Bill Townsend's place and his name is Matt Knabe. There is a new "super" at Big Rec and his name is George Verero. Next year the City is really pushing to build up the Long Beach Golf Festival, especially the Long Beach Open. Efforts to expand the field are under way and more advertising will take place. The new City Web site will help. That address is www.lbcgolf/courses.cfm. Go out there and check it out. If you see some areas of concern, let me know and I can pass that on to the City. With this being a new site, there is always room for improvement. Cal Olsen the designer of Skylinks will be having his golf tournament on October 17th. There will additional information on the web site, and I am sure there will be flyers coming out. Also the 49er Golf Tournament will be held on Monday November 14th. That will be held at Recreation Park. I am sure Livy can give you all the details you need. Our golf hours are a bit high, but we will not run out. Well that should do it for this month. As always any questions or concerns, please let me know. See you at the next General Meeting. Ray McElhenney I continue to get asked the question “ do I post this score today”. I can look at question two ways: 1) Does that mean you want someone else to post for you? –(The committee) or 2) Is this a postable score? Let’s take them in order. 1. The reason why the Handicap Committee and myself want YOU to post is to get you into the habit of posting all your rounds. The only way the Handicap System is to work properly is to have everyone post all of his or her postable rounds, Period. 2. As far as the question of “postable round”, let me review the following. 9 Hole Scores – If you complete 7 to 12 holes, you are to post as a 9 Hole score. Make sure to select the “9 hole score” on the computer and follow the prompts just as usual. This includes our 9 hole monthly tournaments. Hint: I may run an audit report after next month’s 9-hole tournament. 18 Hole Score – If you complete 13 or more holes, you are to post as an 18 hole score. In either situation, you are ONLY allowed to record Net Par on the holes you did not complete. Net Par is adding the Handicap strokes you are given to the par of that hole. If you receive a stroke on our hole 8, Net Par is a bogey 5. Two strokes given on the 8th hole, Net Par is a double bogey 6. Net Par is the maximum score you can record. 3. Scores in both Match and Stroke play shall be posted for handicap purposes. This includes scores made in match play, multi-ball or team competition in which players have not completed one or more holes or in which they are asked to pick up when out of contention on a hole. I hope this information helps and please contact a Handicap Committee member or myself if you have a specific situation or question. Post all you score and “count ‘em all”. Jerry Leininger No report this month. Bob Livingstone
