President's Corner Meeting
Minutes Tournament Chairman If you were one of the groups that had a tee time in the first 2 hours of play, my hat is off to you guys for making it through the rain and cold. After that brief rain shower and hail, the day turned out to be just fine with lots of sunshine. The winning Gross team shot a 25 under par 191 that is playing some great golf, congratulations to all who cashed. The March 19th Waltz is the first Tournament of the year where you have to play your own ball, that means that the pace of play will be affected, please try and do the little things to help speed up play. The March 12th away trip is at Eagle Glen, call Nick for a spot he usually needs singles to fill in. At the March 14th General Meeting you can sign up for the April 30th away trip at the SCGA course, and the May 13th Bus trip to San Vicente. The Bus Trip is a lot of fun so sign up early, this one will fill fast. Remember to put your lottery ticket in the pitcher for tee times for the April 23rd One Gross Two Net Tournament, meeting starts at 7pm. NOTE THE APRIL TOURNAMENT DATE: THE 23RD NOT THE 16TH that is listed on your schedule of events calendar. The Quad club Tournament is on April 29th at Skylinks, this year the green fee price is $40, look for the sign up sheet in the hallway on the El Dorado Men’s Club Bulletin Board. If you have, any questions or concerns about the club feel free to contact any of the Board Members at any time. Rich
Dennison
The monthly meeting was held February 14, 2006 under the El Dorado Park Golf Course restaurant auxiliary tent. The restaurant provided an offering of beef tri-tip, chicken breasts, and rice with rolls, salad, and ice tea for your nominal donation of $6. President Rich Dennison called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and led the membership in allegiance to our flag. Pres. Dennison made note that the April 16 tourney will be held on April 23, as the 16th is Easter. Rich also expressed thanks to all of the attending members wives and significant others for allowing them to attend the meeting tonight. Past Presidents in attendance: Richard Scoville, Steve Shure, Don Marmion, Ray McElhenney, Mike Montgomery, and Bob Livingstone. Tom Burris, Bob Livingstone, and Fred Gibson represented our life membership. The Minutes and Treasurer’s report as printed in the newsletter were accepted. One new member, Angelo Frudakis, introduced himself, stating his name, occupation, and presumed handicap. Mike Montgomery gave Angelo an informative package. Ray McElhenney – Golf Commission: The call-in procedure has changed a bit as the system was not allowing outside residents to get a tee time. Ray mentioned that a new rule is for no carts to be taken into the parking lot. They will be placing posts or some sort of blockage in the breezeway between the restaurant and the tent soon, but in the interim time we should not take carts to our cars. If you are not able to get your equipment to your car the Pro Shop will get someone to provide assistance. The maintenance shed and cart barn are to be getting a form of upgrade. Committee Reports: Chris Benes – Handicap: Chris thanked everyone for placing their cards in the drawer. Remember any round posted needs to have the card turned in. New members without an established index are to keep (5) cards to turn in to him for ease in inputting the scores. A lot of discussion followed on the card concern. It is a requirement of the USGA / SCGA and we are complying. Bob Livingstone stated that the USGA is trying to sell their Handicapping system across the world, noting that they have control of the process with random auditing in monitoring. Mel Collins – Rules: Mike Marmer inquired to the rule if a Team Play group showed up for a match with only 15 players and received the answer. Rick Evans – Director: Had (2) Net scores for January GOM, Tim Yee and Terry Fulford. Tim had a Net 67, but Terry attacked the course and turned in a fine Net 65. Gross winner was Mike Marmer with a smooth 69, nice round Mike. Rick asks everyone who submits a GOM card to print their full name (first and last), SCGA #, tees played, date the card, sign it, and have it attested. Print GOM across the face of the card and place it in the drawer. Any deviation for this format is disqualifiable for GOM award. Quad Club is scheduled for April 29 at Skylinks. Cost to be $40 to walk, $54 to ride. Sign up sheet in the hallway between restaurant and the restrooms. Last day to sign up is April 4. Dennis Tramer – Special Events: Dennis did not receive any complaints about the circles last tourney thus they’ll be the same this time. Nick Zamora – Entertainment: We finished up at General Old, even with the late start. Nick apologized for the late start and was able to refund $10 to everyone who showed up via concession of the course. He paid (2) Low Gross and (2) Low Net prizes as well as team Net winnings. March 12 was to be a drive trip to Eagle Glen, but we are going on the 6th. There will be one hole on the front and one hole on the back where you’ll count all (4) players scores. These holes will be announced before going out. SCGA course drive trip to be April 30, and the bus trip to San Vincente on May 13. The bus will leave at 8:30am expecting to get back around 8:00 pm. It will be fun. Pres. Dennison noted that anyone who sees an inaccuracy in tournament results must notify the tournament chairman within 48 hours for change of results to be made. Jerry Leininger – Tournaments: Sunday is a Select Drive, 3-Better Ball event. Players will get 60% of their handicap. Times are from 6:18 to 12:18. Be sure to keep up with the group in front of you. 2 Drives per person will be required. Sign up for the March tournament will be taken tonight. Team Play: John Davis, Saturday captain, noted he saw improvement all though the season. John is handing the Captain position to Terry Fulford for next year. Pres. Dennison noted the speed of play of the Saturday team was a lot better this year than in the past. Roger Scaife, Thursday captain, thanked the Thursday team, noting they played well, but had to play guys that were playing at their best. Old Business: None New Business: None Meeting adjourned. Raffle tickets continued to be sold. During the raffle, the prizes included all the usual goodies, including a pair of tickets to the Open at Riviera donated by Don Picovich. Dennis Tramer read off the raffle ticket numbers and Bob Livingstone handed out the prizes. 50-50 was $54 tonight. The winner was Tom Baker. That was a quick $27 for Tom and $27 for Jr. Golf. The membership drawing tonight was for $60. The number of Jim Ansite was drawn. Jim was not at the meeting. Next month the prize will increase to $70.
Mike
Vaughn Our February Select Drive seemed to be two different tournaments in the same day. Early morning groups were greeted by a fast moving hailstorm and got soaked. The later groups got a beautiful day with softer greens to shoot at and their scores showed it. Mel Collins, Bob Forester, Kevin Orr, Doug Jones and Steve Pircher took Low Gross with a very nice 191 total, 25 under par. A Flight was won by the Bill and John Hasselman, Chris Price, Mark Hansen and Brent Huntington group with a 24 under 192 score. B Flight with “ I could not make a put all day” Dennis Tramer, Greg, Jay and Jeff O’Brien, Steve Liebeck turned in a 193 or 23 under par. Mike Vaughn got a fill in and did not play. Guess who won the C Flight….his group. Ed Bumgardner, Todd Theil, Corey Gilette, Tom Mergan and Mike Drew shot 195 and may not let Mike back into the group any time soon. D flight winners or “How did they get that many strokes” were John “JD” Davis, Greg Englant, Jim Cole, Don Russell and Tim Yee shot a best net score of 190. Good thing this round was not posted boys. The March Waltz is filled and I have names on the Stand by list. Please remember to get as many of your group to attend the General Meeting and put their names in the bucket for the tee time drawing. Your odds improve the more names your have in the bucket. Our first major event of the season, the Member- Member is set for May 27th and 28th. Cost for the two-day event will be 95.00 per player, 190.00 per team. Included in your entry fee is 2 days of Greens fees, tournament fees, 2 drink tickets and a meal ticket. The meal ticket will be honored either day, good for breakfast or a sandwich from a special menu. Start getting your team lined up early this is always a fun event. I will get you more details in next month’s newsletter and at the meeting. Hit em long and straight.. Jerry Leininger February 2006 Treasurer's Report

Ostberg General Old, our away trip, was played on Sunday, February 12th. It was a beautiful day, although, everyone and their mother thought so too. We were delayed by the starter for over an hour, but everyone finished which is a good thing. We had a good showing from some of our new members. I hope everyone had a good time. The results are posted on the website and on our bulletin board at the course. Our March tournament is at Eagle Glen. The date for this tournament was printed incorrectly. The correct date is March 5th beginning at 8:00 a.m., with a shot gun start for all. Players should be there by 7:15 a.m. The cost is $95.00. The format is a 3 Best Ball with one hole on the front and one hole on the back, we count them all. The weather should be perfect. See you all there. April 30th is a drive trip to SCGA Course at Rancho California. Nick Zamora Well lets start out by getting you all interested in the Hall Of Fame for 2006. We just had our sub committee meeting regarding the Hall Of Fame nominations and hours of operation at the Hall Of Fame building at Skylinks. No decision on hours of operation, but a suggestion was made to have the room open by appointment only? More to come on that later. Get your thinking caps on and nominate someone for this years Hall Of Fame. In this newsletter you will find the new nomination form. Please if you have someone deserving of this award, get the form filled out and turned in A.S.A.P.. The rounds of golf during January were up from last year. If you will recall last year we spent have of it under water!! For all of the courses during January, the % was up 34.71. At our course we were up 51.04%. Looks like a great start. The generated revenue for the month of January was over 1.2 million, with 298 Thousand going to the City. Again off to a good start. The C.I.P. fund is growing nicely, therefore the surcharge at Skylinks will be cut off fairly soon. Jr. Golf is, as always doing superb. That account stands at 107 Thousand dollars!! The netting at our range is complete. The tree trimming is done for now, and the cart barn and maintenance shack have been upgraded very nicely. There are plans in the works to replace the tent with a building. This project, if approved, will be funded by Jim Chora. This will be a very nice addition to our course. American Golf reported that there will be a new drinking fountain installed by the snack bar on the course. Also there will be some improvements to all the restrooms!! That will be nice, since now they are a mess, at best. Lastly the practice bunker was to be completed by Friday the 24th of January. Well that will do it for this time. See you at the meeting. Ray McElhenney No report this month. Chris Benes No report this month. Bob Livingstone
