President's Corner

The October Orange Ball Tournament was played on a day that started out with threading rain, but turned into a great sunny Golf Day. My team finally won a flight on a card off, thanks to Lance for having a career round, I am sure he will be getting a letter. At the meeting this month Tom Conlisk, Tom Link, Bill Johnson and John Hasselman will be taking sign ups for the Derby’s that are played at the conclusion of the Christmas Tournament, they fill fast so see them early.

This month is the Nassau Tournament we play it as an individual tournament. Dennis tells me that he is going to have a special side pot for a blind draw partner, be sure to see Dennis at the check in table for details.

I will be looking forward to seeing you at the November 14th  General Meeting, at the meeting this month we will be voting for our elected officers the voting starts at 7pm. Be sure to have your name in the lottery before the start of the meeting for a tee time in the Christmas Tournament. If you have, any questions or concerns about your Club please feel free to contact any of the Directors.

Rich Dennison
President

Meeting Minutes

The monthly meeting was held October 10, 2006 under the El Dorado Park Golf Course restaurant auxiliary tent. The restaurant provided a great selection of food that included tri-tip, chicken breast, rice, beans, roll, salad, coffee, and ice tea for your nominal donation of $7. President Rich Dennison called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and led the membership in allegiance to our flag.

Past Presidents in attendance: Tom Conlisk, Richard Scoville, Steve Shure, Ray McElhenney, Mike Montgomery, and Tom Link.

Tom Burris, Fred Gibson and Tom McCutcheon represented our life membership.

The Minutes and Treasurer’s report as printed in the newsletter were accepted.

Pres. Dennison informed the membership that Mel Collins is our new Club Champion. The Sr. flight was won by Glenn Cantin, “A” flight by Tom Braun, “B” flight by Jerry Johnson, and “C” flight by Mark Harrison.  He then called our longstanding barmaid to the front and presented her with a card and small token of appreciation for her years in being our barmaid during the monthly meetings. She noted that she has been at El Dorado for 7 years and also working another job part time. She has moved on to the El Dorado restaurant (Studebaker and Spring) for a full time bartending position. Stop by to see her anytime you can. She cried a bit as she has met a lot of great people in our Club.

Tom Link announced that anyone wanting to run for the 2007 BOD to see or call him. Tom then read the slate for the 2007 Board of Directors; President – Rich Dennison, Vice President – Jerry Leininger, Secretary – Mike Vaughn, Treasurer – Al Ostberg and Bret Holloway, Directors – Dennis Tramer and Terry Fulford.

Team Play: Thursday captain, Larry Lipman, advised anyone that wants to play on the Thursday team to get signed. Saturday captain, Terry Fulford, noted that a lot of new people are trying out this year. There are approx. 8 spots still open. Results of tryouts and those who made the team will be posted at the course as well as on the website. All (3) practice rounds will be held on Saturdays.

Committee Reports:

Ray McElhenney – Golf Commission: No report, no questions for Ray.

Mike Montgomery – Communications: Advised the membership that Mel Collins won the LA Seniors Championship, and the Tom McCutcheon won the SCGA Super Senior Championship.

Terry Fulford – Director: 9-hole tourney had 15 players. With a net 36, 3rd place and 10 points each went to Tom Baker. Shooting a net 34 ˝, 2nd place and 25 points went to Vern Herzeberg. Paul Wildly won the event with a net 33 earning 40 points.

Dennis Tramer – Special Events: Dennis needs members to buy raffle tickets to cover the cost of the materials purchased. He has Pro V1 balls, range cards, and other top quality prizes to give away. Anything collected over and above the purchase price will be given away as cash prize(s).

Chris Benes – Handicap: Absent tonight. Pres. Dennison noted Chris said we are doing great turning in our scorecards.

Nick Zamora – Entertainment: Weekender went well. Results are posted. It was a lot of fun. Thanked everyone for participating. Soboba Springs drive trip to be Sunday November 12, 9:00 am start, $75 per person. The format will be a 1-2-3 Waltz. We’ll be trying some new courses next year.

Mel Collins – Rules: Mel discussed Water hazards on #7 and 18. He used the white board for drawing instances to help explain the proper procedure. The water must be kept between the pin and drop position. A Lateral hazard can be dropped outside the point of entry, not always requiring the water to be between the pin and drop location.

Rick Evans – Director: Putting Contest paid had (2) tied for 1st place. Todd Thiele and Roger Scaife each sank 4 putts to split the prize points. GOMs for September were Net – Toby Kovaleff 88 – 24 = 64, and Gross to Clay McCutcheon for a nice 71.

Jerry Leininger – Tournaments: Jerry made note that our General Manager, Jason Koe, was at the meeting. Jason took the microphone for a brief moment to address the membership, noting that #14 is now being played as a temporary green.  Jerry took the microphone back and advised everyone that the ball must be holed out on #14 this Saturday. No picking up for a 2 putt = fairness to all. Jason will try to post the distance by Saturday. It is approx 40 yards shorter than normal. Jerry suggests everyone be at the course a bit early in case we are running ahead of schedule. November tourney will be a Nassau format, paying prizes for front, back, and overall. Start thing about your December 3-man team. Anyone who plans to run a Derby after the Christmas tourney should be ready next month. Tom Conlisk inquired as to what index the Christmas tourney will be played.

Old Business: None

New Business: Mark Miller has recorded the Club Championship on DVD. The Board Of Directors have a copy, and it can be viewed on Miller Theatre on our website.

Pres. Dennison called 10 names for signing up November tournament times.

Meeting adjourned.

Raffle tickets continued to be sold. The prizes included gloves, golf balls, shirts, range cards, and other golf related items. Dennis Tramer pulled the tickets while Terry Fulford distributed the prizes.

50-50 was $36 tonight. The winner was Steve Liebeck. That was a quick $18 for Steve and $18 for Jr. Golf.

The membership drawing tonight was for $140. The number of Greg Stratford was drawn. Greg was not at the meeting tonight. Next month the prize will increase to $150.

Mike Vaughn
Secretary

Tournament Chairman

Our October Orange ball tournament held up to its reputation after looking at the score cards. It is amazing what a colored golf ball can do to us does to us when it’s our turn..  I hope everyone had a good time and I’m sure the stories will only get better by meeting night.

Our flight winners were as follows;

Gross – 199  Mel “Club Champion” Collins, Kevin Orr, Ed Fernandes, Doug Jones and Greg Lester.

“A” Flight  198   Tom Link, John”JD” Davis, Tom Braun, Don Marmion, and Frank Followell.

“B” Flight   190   Tom Conlisk, Dennis Tramer, Greg O’Brien, Don Russell and Steve Liebeck.

“C” Flight 198 (card off) President Rich Dennison, Lance Lomax, Dave Hasselman, Rob Kuehn and Doug Lee.

November Nassau

Our next Tournament, the Individual Nassau will be on November 18th. Front Nine, Back Nine, and Total scores will be used to determine winners in each flight.  Only individual scores will be counted but you will play a five some. Gross and 5 flights will make up our payout. The tournament is filled for all tee times at this time. Please check with me for any single openings that may come up.

December Tournament

This is our last tournament of the year and many consider it our best. It is definitely one of our “big ones”.

Just like last year, you will select your 3 man team. You may sign up as a team or a 2 team 6 some at the table on meeting night.  Please be prepared to let me know which you are signing up for. I will also be taking sign ups for singles and stand by’s at that time.

Price will be $55.00 to walk and $69.00 to ride. Your sign up sheets will have a place to make walk or ride. Please make sure to check one option or you will be a walker. Carts are always limited and on a first come basis. We will use a 7:30 shot gun start. Make sure to get to club early to sign up for the special events. We go at 7:30 so do not be late.

To play in the Christmas Tournament you must have played in at least 3 tournaments home or away.

All monies are due for the Christmas Tournament by December 1st. Please put your envelopes in the drawer in the pro shop, or mail them to the PO Box, it does not matter. The one thing I will not do is chase you down. Your tee time will be lost if the money is not paid by December 1st. This tournament requires a lot of work on tournament day and collecting entry fees is not one of them. I appreciate your getting the money in on time.

Make sure to be at the November 7th General Meeting - Elections and sign up’s for the Christmas Tournament.

Jerry Leininger
Tournament Chairman
