April 2007 Volume 25, Issue 4 MEETING NIGHT - APRIL 10th - 7:00pm Upcoming Events April 15 - Fivesome 1 Gross/2 Net Tournament April 28 - Quad Club @ Rec Park April 29 - SCGA Drive Trip Sign Up May 19-20 - Member Member Tournament (mail in entry) May 26 - Soboba Springs Drive Trip Results March 4 - Jurupa Hills Drive Trip March 18 - Waltz President's Corner Meeting
Minutes Tournament Chairman I believe that the March 18th Waltz had to have been colder than last years Christmas tournament, that’s my excuse for my team not in the cash zone again, overall I believe the day went very well, with some very low scores. The course is in great shape compared to a year ago, I know this because after last years Waltz all I heard was how bad the course was. Remember in the pro Shop there are complaint forms to fill out, but they are also used to let them know that they our doing a better job. Little things like the waterspout at the first tee to wet your towel, and the scorecard box at #2 tee, the new tee markers on all the tees are all little things that make our course better. The April 29th away trip is at the SCGA Members Course, call or see Nick at the April 10th General meeting for a spot. The Member-Member Tournament is on the 19th & 20th of May this year, this is a tournament that you fill out an entry form, the earlier you get it in the better your chances are you can have a special request on a tee time. The Friday night Cocktail party and Putting contest on the 18th has turned into quit a popular event, do not miss it. The Quad club Tournament is on April 28th at Recreation Park, this year the green fee price is $30, look for the sign up sheet in the hallway, on the El Dorado Men’s Club Bulletin Board. If you have, any questions or concerns about the club feel free to contact any of the Board Members at any time. Rich

The monthly meeting was held March 13, 2007 in the El Dorado Park Golf Course restaurant bar area. The restaurant provided an offering of beef burgundy, mashed potatoes, rolls, and the normal offering of salad, and coffee or ice tea for your nominal donation of $7. There was a complimentary keg of beer for the membership to share thanks to Glenn Cantin and Bill Hunt, each acing a par 3 in the February tournament. President Rich Dennison called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. and led the membership in allegiance to our flag. Past Presidents in attendance: Don Marmion, Ray McElhenney, Mike Montgomery, and Bob Livingstone. Tom Burris and Bob Livingstone represented our life membership. The Minutes and Treasurer’s report as printed in the newsletter were accepted. Pres. Dennison noted that over 300 gophers have been killed. The Board has decided to donate $1 for each of the gophers to the maintenance crew. Also, we are getting new tee markers. The blue tees will be marked El Dorado Park Men’s Club. Ray McElhenney – Golf Commission: Ray noted the Long Beach Festival is on line at lbgolffestival.com. The City is working on a project to tie the drain line to the riverbed. A locking gate will be installed at the south side entrance to the course. The Park rangers have had to run the homeless out of the area at night (watching the TV). They are not able to arrest them as the site is not secured. Fencing around the golf course, cart barn, and other items are on the forefront. Several questions from the membership followed. Pres. Dennison noted Jason has done the best job with our course than any GM in a long time. Bob Livingstone – SCGA Rep: Hole-In-One fund needs members to renew their insurance. Glenn Cantin and Bill Hunt scored Aces in the February tournament. Several new members introduced themselves, stating their name, occupation, and presumed handicap. They all went with Bob Livingstone for the informative tour. Committee Reports: Bret Holloway – Special Events: Keep you receipt for the carts. There will be skins games this weekend. Down The Stretch net par or better on each hole for holes 15 – 16- 17- 18. Tom Retterath – Handicap: Nothing to report. Mike Montgomery – Communications: Nothing to report. Mel Collins – Rules: Mel discussed an incident from the Saturday Team Play. If a claim is made against you do not accept the claim, but play the hole out. The decision will be made at the end of the round by others. Also, when you are replacing a ball, if the ball rolls it is OK, so long as it is not closer to the pin. Replace to position. If it rolls again the ball is in play do not pick it up. Dennis Tramer – Director: Quad Club is April 28 at Recreation Park, $30 + cart + prize funds. GOY took place last Saturday. Two (2) Net 71; Mark Burkes and Don “Yellow Dog” Marmion. Don won on a card off. Gross winner was Clay McCutcheon who birdied the last three holes to shot a 71. Mel Collins was second with a 73. 9-hole tourney had 22 golfers. (3) Net 34’s; Terry Henson, Paul Wildy, and Cliff Aichele. Cliff won on the card off. Jerry Leininger – Tournaments: This Sunday we will play a 1-2-3-4 Waltz for approximately the blue tees. We will try to move the boxes up and back without changing the pin locations. May is the Member-Member with Saturday as a Better Ball and Sunday as Aggregate. Price for the M-M will be $95 / player, $18 / team. We plan to provide you with a coupon for a sandwich and 2 beverages for use on either day. Jerry will try to put you with the people you want to play with (money talks, bullshit walks). One other thing, we need to decide if we will hold a Member-Guest in July. The vote was to not hold a Member-Guest. We will have a regular tourney in July, format to be determined. Old Business: We purchased a new Toshiba laptop for $600. It has all the bells and whistles. This was $400 less than we expected New Business: Your Secretary advised that there was so much noise tonight that there were times he could not here what was being said. Contributing causes were the tent and the free beer. Meeting adjourned. Raffle tickets continued to be sold. During the raffle, the prizes included all the usual goodies. The 50-50 drawing was for $20 tonight. Tony Jimenez won $10 while we donated $10 to Jr. Golf The membership drawing tonight was for $70. The number of Tim Barnes was drawn. Tim was at the meeting earlier but was not present at the drawing. Next month the prize will increase to $80.

Ostberg Nick Zamora Well another month has come to a close. We just wrapped up our monthly commissioners meeting. Nothing really exciting happening, so I will cover just the basics. The rounds of golf are down compared to last year. For all the courses, the month to date % is down by 4.05. El Dorado is down 2.09%. Year to date the courses are down 2.79%, with our course being down 0.40%. Generated revenue for March was a little over 1.1 million. 289 thousand going to the city. Our course generated over 330 thousand alone!!. The Jr. Golf program continues to flourish. That account stands at 142 thousand. The membership has already grown to 374. They expect to exceed 500 members by year end. Speaking of the Jr. Golf program. coming back this August the 2nd annual Mayor's Trophy event will be held at Skylinks with all the proceeds going to Jr. Golf. The date is Monday August 13. It will be an eleven o'clock shotgun. The cost is $175.00 per person, or $700.00 per foursome. I played last year and it was outstanding; it would be super if our club get could several groups to play. I have brochures, and I believe there are some in the pro shop. Our CIP committee met earlier this month. We had some high priority projects, and some medium priority projects, that we have recommended be put into motion. Again no set time frames. The projects at our course included drainage system, fence replacement around the perimeter, extending the cart barn, addressing the storage bins, and putting a wrought iron gate in the foyer. Tee areas will also be addressed!! The city has tested a new system for killing gophers. It is a gas type system that actually implodes their caves, along with basically "gassing" them to death. There are no side effects and it does not cause any damage to the course. The system was tested at our course, and the results were outstanding!! T he defibrillators have been purchased and are at each course. The training for all AGC employees will begin very soon. I have not been informed of the dates, and if this training is going to be available to anyone else?? By the time you read this article, or not, the greens will have been aerified. That took place on Monday April 2nd. Lastly, if anyone has any type of golf memorabilia, please let "Livvy" or myself know. Enough for this time. See you at the course!!! Ray McElhenney See the updated Handicap Information. Tom Retterath As I write this, I jut got back from the SCGA Delegate-President's Day at La Canada Flintridge CC. I have been told by my good friend Jim Nathon that I'm not a very good partner, and after today, I agree with him...but Prez Dudley ain't a whole lot better!
LCF CC is 5,765 yards of shear terror, as we each carded net 82...what a day! At least we didn't run over any of the deer that frequent the course.
One of the announcements made at this event is the creation of "Casual Golf Days". The SCGA is aware that many members of the Association would like to take advantage of playing different courses, but can be intimidated by tournaments with Rules Officials, coat-and-tie wearing starters, etc., so they are going to try these casual days of golf. There will be an entry fee of approximately $50, which will cover golf, cart and tee prize. Currently scheduled courses include Primm Valley, Indian Palms, Oak Quarry, and 2 or 3 others will be added. SCGA Staff members will also be present to answer questions about the Association. This sounds like a really neat thing for the average SCGA member, and I encourage you to look into participating, by visiting www.scga.org/casualgolfdays.htm.
Here's to me and Dennison never being partnered again!!
