President's Corner

The Nassau Tournament started out with low clouds and fog, but as normal for our tournaments, it turned into a nice sunny day. As an individual tournament I was very happy that starting at 10am we were able to play under 5 hours, and that our last tee time was able to finish.

The Christmas Shotgun Tournament filled up again this year so be prepared for a 6 hour round. If everyone keeps a eye on where your playing partners ball goes and do all the little things to help speed up play maybe we can play under the 6 hour mark. The start of the Tournament is 7:15 am sharp; the restaurant will be open by 6am, so get there early and get your tee prizes and breakfast.

I will be looking forward to seeing you at the December 11th General Meeting, at the meeting this month we will be taking sign ups for the January 13th Scramble, be sure to have your name in the lottery before the start of the meeting for a tee time. There are only so many times available in January do to the lack of sunlight so get your team at the meeting so you have more chances at the lottery. If you have, any questions or concerns about your Club please feel free to contact any of the Directors.

My last two years as President has gone by very fast, I want to thank the Membership for there support and all there help. Jerry will be taking over the helm and I am sure he will do a great job. Dennis is taking the Tournament Chairman’s job and I expect we will see something new and exciting. Mike Vaughn will be back as Secretary and keep every thing in order as usual. Al will take care of the money again this year and worry about the budget the entire time. Terry Fulford and Mel Collins are the Directors that will take on all the special jobs that help make this Club what it is. Livy will be back as Rules Chairman and I Thank him for all his help as Past President. Tom Retterrath has done a great job as Handicap Chairman and will continue for another year. Bret Holloway is going to do Special Events again, and will continue to come up with new games, keep it up Bret we all like them. Entertainment Chairman Nick Zamora tells me that this year will even be better then in the past, believe him, I am sure it will, keep up the great work. A special thanks to Mike Montgomery our Communicator for his help and advice, he will also, be back. Thanks to Mark Miller our Web Master, he does a great job and has made it easier for our members to get information. I would like to thank Ray McElhenney for his work as our Commissioner the last two years, and Don Marmion coming on to replace him the last few months. I’ll be looking forward to being Past President next year and helping out wherever I can.

Rich Dennison
President

Meeting Minutes

The monthly meeting was held November 13, 2007 in the El Dorado Park Golf Course tent area. The restaurant provided beef brisket, mashed potatoes, brown gravy, salad bar and coffee or ice tea, and cookies for your nominal donation of $7. President Rich Dennison called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and led the membership in allegiance to our flag.

Past Presidents in attendance: Tom Conlisk, Richard Scoville Steve Shure, Greg O’Brien, and Bob Livingstone

Tom Burris and Bob Livingstone represented our life membership.

Pres. Dennison amended last month’s Minutes noting that Jon Monat is running for Vice President. Upon that amendment the Minutes and Treasurer’s report as printed in the newsletter were accepted

Bob Livingstone, our SCGA delegate took the podium to congratulate Larry Grant for his qualification and winning of two (2) matches in the U.S. Senior Amateur. Bob’s memory serves him that Larry is the only current member who has won a match in this event, mush less making it to the second round. Well done Larry.

The 2008 Board of Directors election will be held tonight. The only contested position is for Direct at Large. Four (4) people are running for the two (2) positions. These guys will take care of Golfer of the Month, 9-hole tournament, Putting contest, Flights, Quad Club, and anything else the President asks them to do. Bob called them up alphabetically to take the microphone and say a few words. Mel Collins – Looks forward to doing the requirements of the position. Terry Fulford – Nodded to the crowd. Brett Holloway – Has been a member of the Club since 1981 and looks forward to serving as Director. Tom Retterath – 1 year on the Board as Handicap Chairman and is looking forward to serving in another capacity.

We will have Derbies at the Christmas tournament. Billy Johnson will run the $50 (he needs the money now), Tom Conlisk will run the $40 derby, and John Hasselman will run the $30 event. There will not be a $20 Cheap Dude derby this year. If you want to play in one of these Derbies see these guys ASAP with your money as they fill up very fast.

Team Play: Larry Lipman, Thursday captain. January 10 is our first match vs. Rio Hondo at home. December 6 is the last tryout. He has 22 players at this time. Terry Fulford – Saturday captain had reported that some decisions need to be made for the Saturday team.

Committee Reports:

Don Marmion – Golf Commission: Not present.

Terry Fulford – Director: Had some good scores for GOM in October. For Gross; Larry Grant shot 71, Jim Byers shot 69, but Mel Collins carded an impressive 68. Jim did win the Net with his 69-5 for a 64

Nick Zamora – Entertainment: Menifee Lakes was our last away tournament. They have two 18-hole courses and we may play the other one next year but in May to miss the over-seeding. We will also be playing Brookside, General Old, and SCGA. Nick thanked everyone for all of their support while he has done this job the last four years. Nick told everyone that he is the man for away trips as he enjoys the challenges and loves doing it.

Bret Holloway – Special Events: Thanked all of the guys who donated their unclaimed winnings to the Christmas raffle, skins, and circle side pots. This Saturday he’ll have Gross Birdie event and pay three (3) places. On the Christmas tournament everyone will pay $10 for in the circles side pot. If you have a problem with this the Club will refund your $10 after the fact. It will be the standard $5 + $5 and it will be easier to do it this way than to collect individually the day of the tournament.

Mel Collins – Rules: Next year there will be some changes coming up. For instance in a bunker you will now be able to identify you ball, plus if you hit your cart with your shot there will be a change there too.

Bob Livingstone took the podium to report the 2008 Board of Directors. President – Jerry Leininger, Vice President – Dennis Tramer, Secretary – Mike Vaughn, Treasurer – Al Ostberg, and the two Directors will be Mel Collins and Terry Fulford. The motion to destroy the ballots was made, seconded, and approved

Jerry Leininger – Tournaments: We’ll be going a half hour earlier than last month so be here early. The format will be an individual Nassau; front, back, and overall. The December tournament sheet is available to sign up as 3-some, 6-some, or single. Price to walk will be $65, to ride $80. These entry fees include Special Events entry. Please write the names read, legible. 3-man, 2-Better Ball will be the format playing to your Low Index from the Blue tees. It will be a shotgun starting at 7:30 am. You have until next meeting to pay for your group. Everyone needs to be paid up before the tourney. Directors will not be at their sign in positions after 7:15 as they need to have time to get ready and possibly warm up. Jerry called 10 names to be the first to get times at the end of the meeting.

Old Business: None

New Business: It was suggested we have a copy of the Local rules on the website. Hardcopies of these rules are available in the cabinet if you want a copy.

Meeting adjourned.

Raffle tickets continued to be sold. Bret Holloway called the numbers that were drawn by Mel Collins, Bob Livingstone hand out the prizes.

50/50 Drawing was for $6. The winner was Vern Herzberg. That was $3 for Lowell and $3 for Jr. Golf.

The membership drawing tonight was for $60. The number of George DeBlois was drawn. George was not at the meeting. Drawing will be for $60 next month.

Secretary

Tournament Chairman

The October Nassau found us with another beautiful day for golf and we had some very nice scores to prove it.

Rather than list all the low scores, a complete listing of results is listed in the newsletter.

I did find some interesting results about how the golf course played. Looking at Gross scores we had 0 eagles, 164 birdies, 1085 pars, 1160 bogies and 652 “other”.

The Net results were 69 eagles, 667 birdies, 1317 pars 758 bogies, and 256 “other”.

The toughest Gross hole was Number 1, at 1.27 strokes over par average while number 14 played .54 strokes over par for the toughest Net hole. I find it interesting that Net Hole 8 (number 1 handicap) played at an average of 3.82 strokes and number 3 (17th handicap) played at an average of 3.53 strokes.  It looks like we have a lot of strokes being given at 8 Mr. Retterath!

Christmas Shotgun- December 15th

The Christmas tournament is filled for 3 man teams at this time and I am working off the Stand-By list. If you are interested in getting on the Stand-by list, please contact me ASAP There always are changes before the tournament so you may find a spot.

The tournament will start off with a 6:15 check in the dinning room /bar area inside. You will check in at a table set up by alphabetical listing of your last name. Once you have checked in, you can sign up for the Special Events, if you have not done so already, grab a bite to eat or have a “Tamney Special” Bloody Mary and be ready for the 7:30 shotgun start.

I am asking that all tournament money be turned in by the General Meeting, December 11th. We have 78 player signed up for special events and paid, I encourage you to pay early if possible. That should shorten up our line on tournament day.

The format of our tournament will be 3 man teams -2 best balls. This year I’m going to have 1 Gross and at least 3 Net flights; Merry Christmas to the higher handicap groups. I wanted to spears some early Holiday cheer throughout the membership.

Please make sure to turn in your scorecards after your round. I do not want to have to track you down and failure to return your card will result in disqualification.

Our derbies will be held at the completion of the tournament. Please contact Bill Johnson, Tom Conlisk, Rich Dennison/John Hasselman for availability and details.

January Shotgun

Dennis Tramer, 2008 Tournament Chairman will be taking the sign up’s at the January 8th General Meeting. We will have limited daylight so I suggest you get as many of your group at the meeting for the drawing if you want in.

I would like to take a minute to thank the membership for your support over the past two years in the monthly tournaments. We have had full fields each month and that makes a lot of thing possible. I hope you had some good times and few memories along the way. Keep up the participation for Dennis in 2008 and your board of Directors will do their best to provide good and fun tournament.

Thanks again and Happy Holidays to you and your families.

Hit em’ long and straight.

Jerry Leininger
Tournament Chairman
