President's Corner

Congrats, to Jerry for another great job he did on the first tournament of the New Year. Everyone finished before dark with our last group teeing off after 12:00. Congratulations to all who cashed, as usual my team was just out of the money.

The February 18th tournament is my personal favorite The Select Drive. It is always nice to hit your second shot from the fairway, if you are not in call Jerry and get on the stand by list.

The February 11th away trip is at Cross Creek, call Nick for a spot he usually needs singles to fill in.

At the February 13th General Meeting you can sign up for the March 4th Jurupa Hills away trip and put your lottery ticket in the pitcher for tee times for the March 18th Fivesome Waltz, meeting starts at 7pm.

If you are one of the winners of the Golfer of The month, the Golfer of the year Tournament is going to be on the 10th of March this year see Dennis Tramer or Terry Fullford for more info, good luck to all.

The Quad club Tournament is on April 28th at Recreation Park this year, the green fee price will be increased by $5 too go to Junior Golf, look for the sign up sheet in the hallway on the El Dorado Men’s Club Bulletin Board.

If you have, any questions or concerns about the club feel free to contact any of the Board Members at any time.

Rich Dennison
President

Meeting Minutes

The monthly meeting was held January 9, 2007 in the El Dorado Park Golf Course restaurant bar area. The restaurant provided an offering of spaghetti and meatballs, sausage and peppers, garlic bread, and the normal offering of salad, and coffee or ice tea for your nominal donation of $7. President Rich Dennison called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and led the membership in allegiance to our flag.

Past Presidents in attendance: Tom Conlisk, Steve Shure, Ray McElhenney, Mike Montgomery, Greg O’Brien, and Bob Livingstone. Tom Link was there earlier but left before the meeting started.

Tom Burris, Bob Livingstone, and Fred Gibson represented our life membership.

The Minutes and Treasurer’s report as printed in the newsletter were accepted.

Several new members introduced themselves, stating their name, occupation, and presumed handicap. They all went with Bob Livingstone for the informative tour.

Ray McElhenney – Golf Commission: Ray received a warm welcome back. He has not been to a Commission meeting since he injured his knee in Cabo.

Committee Reports:

Brett Holloway – Special Events: Nothing new to report tonight.

Tom Retterath – Handicap: Tom has a few items. 1) We will proceed with the same posting method as last year. 2) The website is being updated to make it easier to navigate. 3) Be sure to place your name, date, and tees played on the scorecards turned in.

Nick Zamora – Entertainment: Couple of date changes to be advised upon.  SCGA course will be Sunday April 29, and Green River will be Sunday June 10. Our first Away trip will be to Cross Creek on Sunday February 11. Cost will be a $90 discounted rate. We will play from the white tees, 2 Better Ball with (2) Blind Draw holes as the format. March 4 is Jurupa Hills, $60, blue tees, 3 Better Ball format. We are going to post Away trip scores on the course computer this year rather than on the Green Sheet. Links for Away course information to be available on our website.

Mel Collins – Rules:  Mel noted the format Sunday will be Scramble. (2) drives are required by all players. Remember the Local Rule changes (maintenance roads, water as lateral hazard, and removal of rocks from the bunkers. There will be a mark on the flag for “Gimmies”. Al Ostberg noted that we have a new hardcard for the Local rules. Be sure to get on at the tournament Sunday. Know the rules.

Mike Montgomery – Communications: We have the new communication radios.

Terry Fulford – Director: GOM for December were as follows: Gross; Terry Henson gets the “Bridesmaid” award again with a nice 72, while Jim Fuchs shot a 71. Terry is bound to get one this year! Net went to Tom Baker shooting a 90 – 26 = 64. Goodbye handicap!

Dennis Tramer – Director: Golfer Of the Year tourney to be held March 10. The Quad Club will be in April at Rec Park. Sign ups will start next month. Cost will be an additional $5 for Jr. Golf donation.

Jerry Leininger – Tournaments: Well it is now 2007 and we are ready to go. Scramble this Sunday, regular format (everyone can try the putt, not rotational as last year) There will be a tape on the stick to qualify for a “gimmie”. Be sure to add the “gimmie” stroke to team score. If your team only has 4 players see the tournament table on adjustment of who takes the additional shot. February will be a Select Drive tourney. As with the Scramble, (2) drives will be required from each player. Jerry called the first 10 names to sign up for the February tourney.

The January Scramble was almost like we played on 2 different days. The early morning groups could have or should of (my team) been skiing, snowboarding or bobsledding the way we were dressed- gloves, ear warmers, hand warmers and a few layers of clothes. You name it; if we had it we wished we wore it that morning.  It was COLD.  Starting off in 34 degree weather was no fun…. Our later groups got to enjoy the more typical January weather – cool but very mild.

I guess being one of the last groups helped John, Mike and Bill Hasselman, Brent Huntington and Chris Price - our Gross Winners at 55. A Flight was won in a card off by Eric Burke, Terrell Powell, Dan Holley, Alex Gay and Bill Hunt shooting a Net 54.  Nick Zamora, Mike Drew, Steve Friend, Ron Lamerton, and Randy Kervin teamed up to take the B flight with a Net 53.

Our C flight winners were Ruben Carbajal, Charlie Waters, Gary Osborne, Jim Gazeley and Frank Winn carding a Net 54. In D flight, Tom LeBrun, Atul Anand, Mike McMahon, John Yeakel and Ken Rademacher shot a Net 51 for the lowest net of the day. Welcome back Mike, what took so long to cash ???

Thanks to everyone who played in the tournament and I hope you enjoyed hitting from some places in the fairway you haven’t seen very often – the beauty of the scramble format.

February Select Drive

The Select Drive is set for Sunday, February 18th. We will play the tournament as follows:

Each player must use at least 2 drives.

Team score will be the 3 best balls per hole

          Play from Blue tee markers

60% of current or assigned index

          Do not post your score.

Each player tees off and the group selects the ball they wish to play from. Each player then places his ball at that point and completes the hole.

The tournament is full for groups and I am working off the stand by list for individuals right now. If you are on the stand by list, please be patient. I get cancellations right up to the last minute.

March Fivesome Waltz

I will be drawing names for the March 18th Tournament at the February General Meeting. The Waltz starts our season for “real golf”; you play your own shots for the whole round.

This year we will use a 1 -2 -3 – 4 format: 1 best ball on #1, 2 best balls on #2, 3 best balls on #3, 4 best balls on # 4. You then start over to 1 best ball on # etc. Make sure to get your full teams together early, with this format we will not use our famous “blind draw” for no shows. I’m sure it will make thing more interesting when we need 4 out of 5 scores.

Thanks again for your participation in out tournaments and … hit ‘em long and straight.

Tournament Chairman

See you there.

Commissioner's Report

Well gentlemen, I am back at the office, so to speak. My knee problems are coming to a close. Not able to play golf for awhile, but walking and driving will do for now.

Let's get down to some business. We had our first meeting of 2007 yesterday, so I will outline the areas we discussed. I will just show the rounds played for December, and the year to date totals. During the month the courses were down by 1.24%. El Dorado for the month was also down by 2.74%. The year end totals are as follows: all the courses were up 3.16%, and ELDO up by 6.83%. Generated revenue for the month was over 1.4 million, with over 33 Grand going to the city. Our Jr. Golf program is doing quite well. That account is over 139 Thousand, with the Little Linksters program having over 96 Thousand. The Jr. Golf program has over 300 members. We had some discussion regarding the fees charged for the High School programs. It was decided that there would be no increases.

The CIP fund is alive and well. As a member of that committee, we will be bringing back to the full Commission the list of priority items for a final discussion. Defibrillators will be purchased for each course. This money will come from the CIP fund. The employees at each course will be trained to use this equipment.

The overseeding program at El Dorado has been discontinued!! The money used for that will be used for different programs at our course. I feel this is a very positive step  in the efforts to maintain our course without the overseeding!!

Finally we had 3 requests for shotgun events. Two were approved, falling within the guidelines set forth in the Policy and Procedures manual. The 3rd request from Boeing was denied because they requested a weekend date. Well enough for this time. See you soon!!

Golf Commissioner
