October is the opening for SCGA to start accepting memberships
for 2010. I know we have sent out renewal cards and I thank you
who have renewed early. As a reminder, renew early and it’s only
$100.00. If you renew after the first part of December, the fee
goes up to $120. The Men’s Club has a deadline from SCGA and if
you have not renewed, we can’t help but to charge the new
members rate. Please make sure to renew early. If you have any
questions on renewals, please contact Mike Vaughn or a Board
Member.
The Match Play Flights Championships are scheduled for the
Semi-finals this month. It looks like there have been a few
upsets so far and the
Semi’s
should give us some interesting matches. You can follow the
progress on our web site, eldoradogolfclub.org. Mark
Miller has done a great job of keeping the results up to date
and I want to thank him for all the hard work he put into our
website.
Good luck to those who are still in the tournament.
Nick Zamora has put his final touches on the weekender to be
held October 9th, 10th and 11th in
Las Vegas.
All should be ready and I know everyone going on the trip is in
a “can’t wait” mode. The only thing left now is a little golf
and a lot of stories to come home with. I ‘m sure there will be
great stories from both on and off the golf course. We’ll report
what we can in the next newsletter.
Our October General meeting is on the 13th and we
will be taking nomination from the floor for any of the elected
Board of Directors positions. The board is always looking for
new member who want to serve and have some time to contribute.
Our Men’s Club is very active and well supported by the members
and we need new Board members to keep the club successful. If
you are interested in any position on the Board or becoming part
of a committee, please contact any current Board Member. You
will enjoy the time and seeing your efforts rewarded.
It’s October – time for the Dreaded Orange Ball Tournament on
the 17th. This is always a fun filled event and I
understand Dennis Tramer has a “new “supply of the Orange Balls,
probably the Flying Lady’s. We never hear the end of the stories
of how many things go wrong when it’s your turn with that damn
Orange Ball. I’m sure this year will be no different.
The tournament is the weekend after the general meeting so get
you entries into Dennis Tramer as soon as possible.
See you at the October General Meeting on the 13th.

Jerry Leininger
President
Meeting Minutes
The monthly meeting took place
Tuesday September 8, 2009 under the El Dorado Park Golf Course
tent area. The restaurant provided a dinner selection of a
Mexican flair tonight for your gracious donation of $7.
President Jerry Leininger called
the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and led the membership in
allegiance to our flag.
Past Presidents in attendance
were Tom Conlisk, Steve Shure, Don Marmion, Mike Montgomery, Bob
Livingstone and Richard Dennison.
Bob Livingstone represented our
Life Member group.
The Minutes and Treasures report
from the Newsletter were accepted.
There were no new members
tonight.
President Leininger informed the
membership, and especially anyone that intends to play Team Play
that you must have your 2010 Renewal paid to Mike Vaughn NLT
October 15. The SCGA will need to focus on the membership
conversion from IDC to GHIN and has moved the member Clubs
January roster date to Friday October 16. Paul Wildy confirmed
that Thursday and Saturday Team Play members need to get their
renewals to Mike NLT meeting night October 13.
Committee Reports:
Don Marmion - Golf Commissioner:
Don was not at tonight’s meeting. Pres. Leininger advised that a
fee increase might be upon us starting January 2010.
Bob Livingstone – SCGA Delegate:
Nothing to report.
Al Ostberg – Handicap: Of 160
players, (4) did not post. Al advised that if a player fails to
post a penalty round, that a penalty round can be posted onto
your records. Two (2) posted a higher score than they shot. This
can also warrant a penalty round. Once again, players are
posting their scores on the ladies’ tees. Seven (7) members
posted there this last tourney, and one (1) member posted the
round as a “T” score.
Mike Montgomery – Communications:
Mike let the membership know that his business partner and Club
member Toby Kovaleff had open-heart surgery at the Mayo Clinic
in Rochester, MN and is doing OK.
Terry Fulford – Rules: Terry
attended an SCGA Rules class last week. Cost was $20 and took a
couple of hours. Anyone can attend one of these classes. The
schedule is on the SCGA website.
Nick Zamora – Entertainment: All
Nick is selling now is tickets to the Weekender to Las Vegas.
The course is to be offering us discounts and some allowances.
If anyone has a late interest see Nick as he can fit a few more.
Everyone that is attending needs to get their’ entry form and
deposit to Nick ASAP. After the weekender, our last away trip
will be to Sierra Lakes in November.
Mel Collins – Director: The first
month of Flights Championship is in the books. A lot of matches
went to the 18th hole, or extra holes. Se sure to set
your second round matches up. Mel will try to get some times
from Jason. We had a 3-way tie in the Putting contest; Jerry
Wright, Tim Braswell, and Terry Henson.
Tom Retterath – Director: Eight
(8) players tonight for the 9-hole contest, the largest this
year. 2nd place went to Vern Herzberg with a 34 ½.
The winner was Dennis Tramer with a 32.
Terry Henson – Special Events:
Hope everyone liked the last set up. To help increase the
winning returns Terry will be increasing the size of the fields,
only using A, B, and C, no D-flight. Flights will offer both
Gross, Net, or both. Will be a “Bulls-eye” on #3 Saturday, and
will have a Honey-pot on Sunday, net 71 or better. Pres.
Leininger told everyone to get to the course early so you have
time to sign up and pay for the Special Events.
Dennis Tramer – Tournaments: BBQ
went better than ever. The Shotgun start worked well, probably
do this again next year. Your handicap will be on your card.
Range balls provided. Partner-Partner will have a “Tee prize” of
two (2) sleeves of Pro V1 golf balls or each player. Entry fee
starting in October for regular tournament will be $55. This is
due to the increase we are having to, and have been paying for
the past couple of months. Orange Ball tournament is in October.
We will have new Orange balls this year. Dennis called 15 names
for the Orange Ball tournament sign up.
Pres. Leininger recognized Larry
Grant for qualifying for the state Senior Amateur.
Past President – Richard
Dennison: Rich took the podium and advised the membership that
tonight he will read the slate of Officers for the 2010 Board of
Directors. Rich informed the membership that if they know
someone they feel should run, or if they would like to run for
an elected position that nominations from the floor will be
taken at the October meeting, with the elections at the start of
the November meeting. The slate consists of President: Dennis
Tramer, Vice President: Mike Vaughn and Tom Retterath, Secretary
– Rob Kuehn, Treasurer: Bret Holloway, Directors: Mel Collins,
Terry Fulford, and Al Ostberg.
Old Business: None
New Business: Mike Vaughn noted
this Thursday is the King’s 80th birthday. No Conlisk
not you, Arnold Palmer.
Meeting adjourned.
The Membership drawing tonight is
for $50. The number of Rob Marchegiano was drawn; Rob was not at
tonight’s meeting. The prize will increase to $60 for next
month.

Mike Vaughn
Secretary
Tournament Chairman
I want to say what a great tournament the
PARTNER-PARTNER turned out to be. Although the scores were not
super low, it was the tightest tournament I can recall in my 25
years in this fantastic club. I hope everyone enjoyed
themselves, especially on Saturday as the format of a front 9
2-man scramble and back 9 crossover are just a blast to play.
Once again there were some nice point payouts and 40% of the
field got paid. Here are your winners “A” Gross B. Hasselman-M.
Hasselman—171 and winning the net by ¼ of a shot M. Marmer-J.
Dymon—170.5 “B” Gross M. Moraitis-A. Robinson—190 and winning
the net by ¼ shot D. Summers-P.
Douglas—165.25 “C” Gross W. Mcghee-T. Yee—202 and winning the
net by 1 ¼ shots J. Bundy-L. McCullough—168.5. All results are
posted on our website and in the hallway at the golf course.
On Saturday, October 17th, We will be
having one of our most celebrated tournaments “THE DREADED
ORANGE BALL”. This will be a 3 best ball event, using the
Orange ball + 2 others each hole. I am going to switch this one
up so I don’t have to hit 3 wood on every hole for my approach
shot (Par 3’s included) so we will play the WHITE TEES for the
first time this year. We will again have 3 flights and 1 Gross
and multiple nets in each. Each team will receive 2 “NEW” orange
balls when they turn in their lineup for a Director to sign off
on. You must turn in an orange ball with your scorecard upon
completion of your round or you are Disqualified. (HINT: BUY
EXTRAS
AND
PUT THEM IN YOUR BAG!) Come on out and have a good time watching
your buddies “PUCKER UP” when they get that
Orange
thing. I can always use singles so call me if you would like to
play.
COST $55
On meeting night October 13th, I will be taking
signups for the Saturday November 21st , Nassau Tournament. This
is an individual tournament which pays both gross and net for
front 9 back 9 and overall. Remember, you cannot win both gross
and net for any 1 category. Come on out and play as you can
accumulate MUCHO POINTS in this tournament. Last year we had a
few who made 180 points. I talked to Terry Henson and in this
tournament He will run a $5 buy in for a Partner BB Blind Draw
so if you chop up both sides you could still win some points.

Well, all the
preparation is complete; nothing left to do but play ball. Bring on Las
Vegas. We ended up with 36 teams with some guys coming out Wednesday
for pre-game warm-up. We are playing the practice round Friday with a
shot gun start at 12:30 pm. Some of the wives will be mixed in with
their husbands to keep the peace, if you know what I mean. We will play
best ball (blind draw). Saturday and Sunday are both shot gun starts
at 7:30 am. This is where the “BIG GAME” begins. We will play 2 man
team Best Ball event from the Blue Tees on Saturday. On Sunday we will
play a 2 man team (count them all) event from the White Tees. There are
a million ways to win including Low Gross & Low Net (each day), Closets
to the Pins, and Skin Games; because what else “We are in Vegas!!” So
let the games begin and remember no crying.
Our final 2009 event
will be Saturday, November 14. We are going to Sierra Lakes with a shot gun start at
8:00 am. The format will be 3 Best Ball Net with 4 Best Ball Net on
Hole 4 and 16. Let’s finish with a bang and I look forward to next
year. |

To the El Dorado
Men's Club:
I wanted to thank all of you for sending
the wreath for the Celebration of Life for Bob. It was
beautiful, and added so very much to the day!
The day was everything that I had hoped
it would be! It was a day to Celebrate Bob, the way he
lived, with the people who knew him, and with the
thoughts and prayers of those who were unable to attend.
The people who shared experiences with him and who, I
hope, will hold those memories with them, share them
with me, if you can- and remember Bob with a smile.
I am very lucky to have all of
you- supporting me, and making sure that I don't fall
down- knowing that Bob would want me to keep moving
forward. I will be forever grateful to all of you for
being there for me, and for being part of Bob's and my
life!
Think of him with a smile, and of
memories that keep that smile lasting for times to
come. And remember, always tell those you love how
much you love them, it can never be said enough!
Thank you, always,

Commissioner's Report

The meeting was called to order at
Skylinks Golf Course on Sept 23rd. The Superintendent of Golf
Operations, Bob Livingstone, advised the committee about proposed policy
changes regarding designation of new holidays, differentiating Fridays,
and incrementally increasing fees at Recreation Park to those at El
Dorado. The Committee recommended that holiday rates be approved for
Veterans Day, Good Friday, and Christmas and New Years eves, much less
than the City's proposal, Friday rates stay as they are, and that the
increase for Rec Park be applied over 4 increments over 2 years rather
that 2 increments in 1 year. All of this being done to generate new
revenues for the City which has a deficit budget for the next 2-3
years. Fall is here , so aerification has begun at all of our courses.
Up coming capital projects, Rec Park- clubhouse and restrooms, El
Dorado-restrooms and lake aeration system, Heartwell - tee and green
cart paths, Rec South-continuing upgrades throughout the course.
