President's Corner

Well, after 2 years as Tournament Chairman I am ready to start a new endeavor as President of the El Dorado Men’s Club. As the new President I would like to welcome back all returning members and also  all new members for the 2010 season.

Myself and the new Board of Director’s are eager to get going to provide you with another great and exciting year of golf. We get started in January with the “Scramble” and it will also kick off Thursday and Saturday Team Play. Look for your schedule to arrive in the mail shortly, which is highlighted by a return weekender trip to Alliante in Las Vegas on OCTOBER 8-10.

I’m sure that Tom Retterath is putting final touches on the Scramble Jan. 17th. Anybody wishing to play should contact Tom as I am sure he will have holes to fill.

At the General meeting Jan. 12th Sign Ups will be taken for the Select Drive on Sunday Feb. 14th. Mr. Retterath will be in HAWAII so I will be assisting Mike Vaughn who will take sign ups that evening. COST IS STILL $55.

One last note, Nick Zamora will be taking sign ups for the Sun. Jan. 31rst Drive trip to Los Serrano. Cost TBA.

Dennis Tramer
President

Meeting Minutes

The monthly meeting took place Tuesday December 8, 2009 under the El Dorado Park Golf Course tent area. The restaurant provided a dinner selection of ham and stuffed turkey breast with salad, cookie, and coffee for your gracious donation of $7.

President Jerry Leininger called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. and led the membership in allegiance to our flag.

Past Presidents in attendance were Tom Conlisk, Steve Shure, Don Marmion, Mike Montgomery, Greg O’Brien, Bob Livingstone and Richard Dennison.

Bob Livingstone represented our Life Member group.

The Minutes and Treasures report from the Newsletter were accepted.

Committee Reports:

Mike Montgomery – Communications:

Team Play: Mike Montgomery commented that the Saturday Team Play roster has been selected. This can be found on the message board and website for your viewing. Our first round will be here on January 23rd. Mel Collins noted Thursday is coming along nicely. Mel gave special thanks to Pro Shop employee and fellow Club member, Mike Wunderley. Mike helped us a lot in providing times to play the flights matches. Mel read the winners and runners up. Results can be found elsewhere on this Newsletter.

Don Marmion – Commissioner: Don had nothing to report and there were no questions.

Bob Livingstone – SCGA Delegate: The SCGA Club Champions tournament was held in Palm Desert yesterday. Mel Collins, our 2009 Champ, carded an 81 to finish in the top half of the competition. A new SCGA logo is to come out January 1, 2010. Look at the SCGA website to try to sneak a glimpse.

Al Ostberg – Handicap: Of the 160 players in last month’s tournament (3) did not post, (7) posted from the women’s blue tees, and (1) posted scores higher than they carded

Terry Fulford – Rules: Terry had nothing to report. Tom Conlisk asked about the Ruling during match play where one addresses the ball, the ball moves, and you continue through the swing.

Tom Retterath – Director: Gross Golfer of the Month for November was Eddie Fernandez with a smooth 72. The Net winner went to Rick Evans with a 62 (77 – 15)!!!

Bret Holloway – Treasurer: Busy collecting 2010 renewals at this time.

Nick Zamora – Entertainment: We finished off the year at Sierra Lakes. The course was in very good condition. Some low scores were turned in. Nick has a few new courses for next year. See your 2010 schedule. We are going back to Aliante for the Weekender again this year. The Little Brown Jug was a lot of fun again this year. It all came down to the last round. See results posted else in the Newsletter.

Terry Henson – Special Events: You need to buy more raffle tickets. The prizes range from merchandise to cash.

Dennis Tramer – Tournaments: Dennis noted that it has been a pleasure being the tournament chair the past 2-years. D.T. is looking to fill the 180-player field for the Christmas tournament as he has a few single spots still available. Derbies will run just after the tournament. Bret Holloway has the 50, Tom Conlisk the 40, and Rich Dennison has the 30. Dennis explained the Derby format. The Club is paying everyone’s Special Events entry for the Christmas tournament. Tom Retterath called 15 names for January sign up

Pres. Leininger noted that from December 22 through January 4 you will not be able to post as the SCGA will be shutting the IDC system down to integrate into GHIN. After Jan. 4, you can post at home, here, or place your card in the drawer for Rich Dennison to post for you.

Old Business: President Leininger thanked the Board of Directors that he has had and the membership who supported him these past 2-years while serving in the capacity of Club President. Jerry read the 2010 BOD to the attendees.

New Business: Rich Dennison made the motion that the Club covers the membership fees for Jerry Leininger for life for the work that he has put into helping our Club. Motion seconded and carried.

Meeting adjourned.

Terry Henson pulled the Christmas raffle tickets from the drum and Bob Livingstone called them out. Nick Zamora and Bret Holloway distributed the prizes.

The Membership drawing tonight is for $90. The 1st number drawn identified Brain Ball. Brain was at the meeting and collected a check for our Treasurer for $90. The raffle will start at 50 in January.

As Dennis mentioned above, I am the new Tournament Chairman for our club.  I have “large” shoes to fill but I’m confident that I will continue the effort of providing the best home tournaments to our club’s membership.  We pretty much have a set schedule but if you have any ideas or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me for further discussion.  Our upcoming January tournament will be held on Sunday, Jan. 17th.  It’s a 5-man scramble with a minimum of 2 drives per player.  We’ll use a modified handicap allocation as following  0-3 (0), 4-6 (.5), 7-9 (1), 10-12 (1.5), 13-15 (2), 16-18 (2.5), 19-21 (3), 22-24 (3.5), and 25 and above (4).  Reminder, we don’t have much daylight so please ensure your pace of play is quick so that all groups can finish!  At the January General Meeting, signups for the February Select Drive tournament will occur.  Mike Vaughn will be handling this for me since I will not be able to attend the mtg.  Mike, thanks for your help.

If you need to contact me, please email me at tourchair@eldoradogolfclub.org or (714) 898-2297.

Welcome boys to 2010, let the games begin.  This will be our first round toward “The Little Brown Jug”.  If you haven’t heard, we run a little game involving all the away trips.  You must play at least 5 rounds to qualify.  We take the lowest 5 rounds for the year using your net score.  We pay the 3 lowest players.  The more rounds you play the more bad rounds you can kick out.  This is our third year doing this and we have gotten a great response.  Good Luck!

Our first away trip is to Los Serranos in Chino Hills.  The date is Sunday, January 31, 2010 the week before Super Bowl.  The cost will be $80.00 and we will play from the Blue Tees.  The game will be 2 best ball scores on the even holes and 3 best ball scores on the odd holes.  Come and sign up at the meeting or email me with a foursome or just as a single.

February we will be going to Pala Mesa in Fallbrook.  The date is Sunday, February 28, 2010.  It will be an 8:00 am shotgun.  The cost is $70.00 and the format will be a 1, 2, 3 waltz.

So let’s get the year rolling forward on a good note and play some golf.

Association News

The Holidays are behind us and I hope you all hade a wonderful Holiday Season. Here is a quick update from the SCGA.

The change over to the GHIN system is well underway but SCGA did not meet their January 4th target date. At this time we are in a day by day update. Once the switch has been completed, I will make sure an email is sent out letting you know the computer is up and running.

Please remember it is your responsibility to make sure all rounds you play between December 22 2009 and the change over are to be posted. I have put a posting sheet in the pro shop for your use. The 2 other ways to make sure games are posted is on the SCGA web site or put your score cards in the drawer by the posting computer.  The SCGA on line posting will not be available until the change over is completed so please wait for an update before trying to post online.

Your new GHIN handicap numbers will become effective with the conversion and will be posted at the golf course once we get our first handicap revision.  I am sure you will also be able to obtain your number on the SCGA web site.

If you have any questions regarding the GHIN conversion, please contact me.

Thanks for your corporation during the conversion.
