Special Events

Upon further discussion with very knowledgeable people, long drive was cancelled. It was set up for all flights and that is how it should be. I can’t just give it to A flight. My mistake. Sorry Bill, I’ll make it up to you next time I see you in the bar. The circles that never made it out of the maintenance yard were cancelled and the money was rolled into the remaining special event and skins. So the payout is a little larger.

It has been fun running the special events for all of you this year. I pass the mantle, the circles, the envelopes, the cash box, the raffle tickets, the tape measures, the little metal posts, the script box, the raffle ticket spinner thingy majiggy, the ugly brown sign in clipboard and all the rest of the cr#!p to Dennis Tramer. I know he will do a fine job. Special thanks to Tom Link for inviting me onto the board.

Hope everyone takes their huge Beat the Pro payout and buys their wife/girlfriend/both something real nice.

Merry Christmas!

Doug Jones
Special Events Chairman

Beat the Pro

A Thank you to Paul Goydos for spending time with us hacks. Now Paul, I know this is the time of year when you pay more attention to your kids than you do your golf, but come on, 74 for a net 78!!! Was Livy yapping in your face all day? Would you mind coming over to my house and help me stuff $1.50 in about 900 envelopes. Actually the payout is 6.00. You guys know if you won or not. There is not enough memory in my computer to list you all.

A Message from the Special Events Chairman

Fellow golfers: My last event as special events chairman seems to have gone down in flames. Several things went wrong so I need to post this to explain to you how we will handle each situation.

Circles: There was a communications error with myself and the greenskeeping crew and I did not know until I teed off that the circles were not on the greens. We made an attempt by phone but it was too late to do anything. There was one circle for each flight so I am canceling that portion and carrying it over to January.

Skins and Beat the Pro: By the time I got back to the clubhouse, a lot of you had already left and did not have a chance to post. In hindsight I should have left the posting sheets by the scorecard box. You need not e-mail or phone me about this. When Rich is done getting the results of the tournament, I will go through all of the score cards and finish posting skins and Beat the Pro.

Long Drive: Sometimes on the night before, you think you have everything covered but then on the next day you wonder what you were thinking. I had set up a long drive for each flight. The eighteenth hole was my third hole and even though I posted my name, it still did not dawn on me that I needed three posting sheets!!! Thank you Tom Link for pointing that out to me and you can wipe that smirk off your face!

I am going to make this an overall long drive and up the payout to forty dollars. Congratulations to Bill Hasselman for knocking it past brother John. Congratulations to Don Russell for the posting his name on a long drive contest. You noted you were 100 yards behind. Behind what?

Most Greens in Regulation Special Event: Again, a lot of you did not have a chance to post. I do not want to cancel this event and carry over.

What I want to try is all of you that think could not post and please e-mail me at doug@sturdivantco.com, title the subject “Special Events” and note how many greens you hit and your flight. If you cannot e-mail, give me a call during the day at 323 269 8322 x29. Please do this by five P.M on Wednesday.

Thanks everyone for you patience. I certainly enjoyed all of you comments. My apologies to everyone who hit a great shot and were not rewarded.
