El Dorado Park Men's Golf Club

Event Descriptions

The Club holds a tournament every month at El Dorado in a variety of formats. Most Monthly tournaments are team events played from the Combo tees. The general descriptions below are typical of the event but may be modified when a tournament is open for sign-ups.

All Monthly tournaments have optional Special Events.

Red, White, and Blue  (July)

Priority: Meeting Attendance

Competition: Four-man teams

Format: Reverse Waltz

Tees: White

Eligibility: All Members

Description: One of the Club's most popular tournaments, it finally answers the question everyone has asked themselves at some point: would Ben Franklin snap hook a driver on seven out of bounds or pipe one right down the middle? This tournament features flighted foursomes played from the combo tees and requires players to keep a number of best balls per hole depending on the pin. Three best balls for red, two best balls for white, and one best ball for blue. In addition, there are special events like low gross, low net, gross skins, closest-to-the-pin events, and the white tee party (get it, like "TEA" party? Heh heh heh). A fun day for the Club and just how the founding fathers would have wanted us to celebrate!

3 Best Ball  (August)

Priority: Meeting Attendance

Competition: Four-man teams

Format: 3 best ball

Tees: Combo

Eligibility: All Members

Description: Deep in the dog days of summer comes the Club's 3 Best Ball tournament. This one has a pretty standard structure where the best three balls from hole-to-hole determine your team score. Special events in the past for this tournament have included low gross score, low net score, gross skins, net par on the middle six holes (7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12), and closest to the pin on #9. Sign up early because this one is a scorcher!

Partner-Partner  (September)

Priority: First Come, First Serve

Competition: Two-man teams

Format: Unique format for each 9 holes

Tees: Combo

Eligibility: All Members

Description: A two-day affair with a different format for each 9. The Saturday game is a Scramble (4 drive quota) on the Front 9 and Crossover (Better Ball) on the Back 9. A Crossover is each player switches balls after each shot. Only the better ball counts for the team. On Sunday, the Front 9 is Better Ball and the Back 9 is Team Aggregate (count 'em all).

Dreaded Orange Ball  (October)

Priority: Meeting Attendance

Competition: Four-man teams

Format: 2 of best ball plus the orange ball

Tees: Combo

Eligibility: All Members

Description: Just in time for spooky season comes the Dreaded Orange Ball tournament. Assign each player in your group to handle a predetermined set of holes but be sure to choose wisely! The spookiest thing about this tournament is the sneers your teammates will give you when you hook one of your orange balls into the lake on 13. And if it's the last orange ball the group has, well, just like any slasher movie, your group will be eliminated! While we won't use a machete or an icepick to do the deed, Bob will mark a big fat "DQ" in red on the tournament sheet! Special events for this tournament have included low gross score, low net score, gross skins, orange ball birdies on holes 1 through 16, and orange ball skins on holes 1 through 16.

Super’s Revenge  (November)

Priority: Meeting Attendance

Competition: Four-man teams

Format: 3 best ball over a unique course setup by the Superintendent

Tees: Lilleberg tees

Eligibility: All Members

Description: Before you stuff yourself on Turkey Day and watch the Cowboys inevitably lose comes the Super’s Revenge, where the course superintendent exacts his, well, revenge, on us all. This is his version of payback for us trampling all over his course throughout the year, and it can be a doozy. Wacky pin placements, strange tee locations, and even a putting green sized mini flag mark some of the visual delights for this event. Among the special events are low gross, low net, gross skins, “Gobble, Gobble” (net par 6 designated holes). This event is a welcome precursor to the family political arguments which are likely to arise during Thanksgiving dinner, so enjoy it while you can!
