Happy New Year! I would like to start off by saying I’m looking forward to being President of the best golf club in the SoCal area. I will work hard to make this club the envy of our peers, and continue to engage our membership to make all of you feel like you’re part of something special.

I would like to welcome in the New Year and kick off the 2018 El Dorado Men’s Golf Club golf season! Our Board of Directors is committed to organizing another fun filled year of monthly home tournaments, championships and away tournaments. This year we have a recycled VP-Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer. Because it’s Dennis’ second time around as VP let’s do our part to make his tenure as smooth as possible.

2018 starts off with the Sunday, January 14th 5-man Scramble, next is our first away tournament Sunday the 28th at Recreation Park. Check with the Entertainment Chairman Prisciliano Lucero to see if he has openings. This away tournament fills up fast, and is always very popular because it’s right in our back yard.

The Christmas Shotgun, our last tournament of 2017, was adorned with beautiful SoCal weather, aren’t we lucky? Thanks everyone for showing up early and with plenty of holiday spirit, you made the check-in a breeze. I would also like to thank Rick Crowder and the whole El Dorado crew for taking such good care of us this tournament and every tournament of 2017.

Results seem to be right in line with past years. One exception: Bob “Livy” Livingston, who never plays this event, graced us with his presence and along with Omar Diaz and Justin Vanderbroek won A-Flight Gross with a score of 141. There were 17 players that shot net 71 or better, cashing in on the honey pot special event. Tournament points were awarded to almost half the field, so check the results to see how you did.

DECEMBER 2017 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner was actually a very nice Thanksgiving Day spread – turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, salad, and cranberry sauce – albeit a month late.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by (soon to be Past) President Nick Zamora, who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Once again no one took a knee. There were approximately 115 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Terry Fulford, Dennis Tramer, Don Marmion, Mike Montgomery, Tom Conlisk, Dick Scoville, Rich Dennison and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.

There were no new members present.

Directors’ Reports were as follows:

Special Events Director Omar Diaz announced the events for this month’s Christmas Shotgun Tournament. They include skins, CTP on #3 and #17, and the old “Honeypot’ – net 71 or better.

Entertainment Director Lucero reminded us that next year the Weekender will be held in Laughlin on April 6-8 so reserve the dates now. The first Away Tournament of the year is January 28 at Rec Park in Long Beach, a fivesome tournament. Contact Lucero asap if you’re interested, as spots are filling up quickly. Lucero announced the winner of the Little Brown Jug Award (based on the year’s away tournaments) as Eric Lishka, who gave a heartfelt speech thanking his sponsors – Miller/Coors and ZigZag. No one has ever had better sponsors, Eric.

Director Mike Vaughn was out of town, so awarding of trophies for the Flights (Match Play) Champions will take place in January.

Director Jerry Leininger announced that the Board will be posting the scores for this month’s tournament. Do NOT post your own score. Jerry also reminded everyone to renew their membership on line if they haven’t already done so.

VP Cliff Aichele discussed this month’s Christmas Shotgun Tournament – a 7:30 start. There are 180 players signed up. We have the course for the entire day. If you haven’t already, sign up for one of the post-tournament derbies. They’re lots of fun (and can be quite remunerative). By the way – there is a surprise tee prize for all participants.

Director Matt Huntington announced GOM award winners for November. Gross winner was Eric Miller with a 72 and Net winner was Mike Vaughn with a (gasp) 62. I guess 6 months of no golf did wonders for Mike’s game. Remarkably, everyone who turned in a card filled it out properly. You guys are indeed trainable.

Director Mike Montgomery announced that only a few more raffle tickets were available. Mike will run the drawing immediately after the meeting. Mike also led the membership in a round of applause for the 2017 Board of Directors.

Director Dennis Tramer noted that his urging of golfers to try out for Thursday Team Play was perhaps a little too successful. There are 30 players on the roster, including a bunch of really good golfers. Maybe this will be the year that El Do shines on Thursday.

Secretary/Membership Director Rob Kuehn again urged everyone to renew on line if you haven’t done so already. It’s very easy and quick. If you have no email/computer/credit card, you must go to the Pro Shop, completely fill out a Renewal Card, write a check, put both in an envelope, and place the envelope in the drawer.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: President Zamora thanked everyone for helping to make his two years as president truly unforgettable. Nick turned over the gavel to Cliff Aichele, our new President. Cliff introduced the 2018 Board (pretty much like the 2017 Board). A motion was made, seconded, and approved to grant free membership for life for Nick.

The $50 drawing winner was Anthony Coyne. The meeting was adjourned and the Raffle commenced.

Well 2017 has come to a close with some really great GOM cards turned in. The newly rejoined Mel Collins turned in a solid 71, even though it was a 32-39 for a 71, what the hell happened on the back nine Mel??? Lloyd Lee had a solid net 63; and became the 4th person with the last name Lee to win Net GOM (only 3 were related). I want to thank everyone that turned in a card as they were all filled out correctly. A couple people forgot that we use 6 month LI as opposed to current, but that’s not a huge deal. Thanks again and Happy New Year

Gentlemen,

First of all I would like to thank Cliffy for a job well done the last 2 years. Well, I guess I had my first "Brain Fart" of the year as I forgot about my article.

Coming up Sunday, January 14th, we will be playing our Scramble tournament. As you know we use the "Tramer" HCP system for this and your modified Handicaps will be on the scorecards. As always you need to use at least 3 Drivers from each player in the group. We have a very full field of 175 players so it is crucial everyone keeps up with the group in front of them. A director will be out checking the groups and if they see you lagging you will be asked to pick up the pace.

One last note, if you are not going to make it, please text me no later than 5:30AM the day of the tournament. This really helps out other than you just NO SHOWING. Remember the cost is $60 if you pay before tournament day, $65 if you pay the day of the tournament.

At the January meeting I will be taking signups for the Select Drive Tournament which is on Sunday, February 18th.

Congrats to all the winners in the Christmas shotgun. We had a nice turnout for Special Events this year and I like to thank Matt & Nick for the help during check in. And thanks for your patience at check in. I like to wish you all Happy Holidays, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Saturday Team Play is just around the corner and this year we have South Bay Golf Club, Rec Park and Lakewood. Our home matches are January 20th February 3rd & 17th. Come on buy and watch us come in on 18 and have a drink with us.

SUNDAY January 28 green fees are $75. We are playing fivesomes from the combo tess, just look for El Dorado lollipops on the tee boxes. The scoring format will be the Waltz, and because is a fivesomes is 2-3-4; 2 scores on the first hole, 3 scores on the 2nd hole and 4 scores on the 3rd hole and repeat.

I will like to take this opportunity to remind you of our Weekender in Laughlin April 6-8 at the Tropicana Hotel. Details to be posted shortly.

i hope everyone had a great Holiday season and are ready for 2018.

The Oct- Dec winner of the Golfer of the Quarter is Jim Ridenour. Jim started with a 22.6 index and finisher the quarter with a 18.9 index.
That is an improvement factor of 1.12. Close behind Jim were: Brett Pagett, Don Didier, Bill Walton, DJ Dortch, and Randy Kervin.

Nice going Jim and keep up the progress.

Our GOLFER OF THE YEAR for 2017 is Matt Williams. Matt started 2017 as an 11.6 index and finished as a 5.3, an improvement factor of 1.36. (Yes, the handicap committee has had an eye on him)

Matt wins the $ 100 award as our Golfer of the Year. Finishing second is Bill Walton - $75 and in third place Don Didier $50.

Congratulations to our winners and keep going low - you may be on this list in 2018.

The lower slope and ratings from our last revision are do mainly to the improvements made to the height and positing of fairway bunkers, removal of many trees that widened the fairways and the removal of the bunkers on hole 18.

January kicked off the New Year with the 5-Man Scramble and our first away tournament at Recreation Park. It’s Southern California so of course we had fantastic weather for both events, while other parts of the U.S. were battling sub-zero temperatures.

Dennis Tramer is back in the saddle as Tournament Chairman, and he did a great job putting together a full field and timing everything just right so that the last group out had no problem finishing with a little daylight to spare. Entertainment Chairman Prisciliano Lucero might have set an away trip record fielding 18 groups (90 total players) at Recreation Park. Thanks Lucero for a great day!

For all of you new members and a reminder for current members: It’s time to get’er done with one of our most popular events of the year, the Member-Member coming up in May. You have plenty of opportunities, if you haven’t already, to play in the 3 events that will qualify you to participate in this very popular 2-day tournament. Remember you have to had played in 3 club events in the previous 12 months to sign up for the Member-Member, the Club Championship or the Christmas Tournament. There is plenty of time to get those three tournaments under your belt throughout the year, and think of how much fun you’ll have doing it!

The start of the year means that Team Play is in full swing. The Saturday team is off to a good start with a 2 and 1 record, having one disappointing loss to Rec Park. The Thursday team has had a tougher time, but were all behind them- hang in there guys.

Our monthly General Meetings are a great place to network with other members, secure your spot in upcoming tournaments, and always a lot of fun…so make sure to attend!

JANUARY 2018 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, January 13, 2018 but not in the Big White Tent. Concerns about potential wind and rain impact moved the meeting to the restaurant where the predominant hair color became a little less blue. The pre-meeting dinner was beef fajitas, rice, beans, tortillas, chips and salsa.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by new President Cliff Aichele, who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 90 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Terry Fulford, Dennis Tramer, Mike Montgomery, Dick Scoville, Tom Retterath, Nick Zamora and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. New members present included Andrew Nunez and Mike Wilson, who received the first time new member tour from first time past president Nick Zamora.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Special Events Director Omar Diaz announced the events for this month’s Scramble: CTP on #9 and #12 (paying 5 places per flight) and in-the-circle on #3 and #17. Omar also announced that Saturday Team play was beginning on 1/17, and we were playing at Alondra. Omar noted that the Saturday Team beat the Thursday Team in the final tune up before league play.

Entertainment Director Lucero reminded us that this year the Weekender will be held in Laughlin on April 6-8 so reserve the dates now. Director Jerry Leininger announced that the Most Improved Golfer Award for the 4th Quarter went to Jim Ridenour, and the Most Improved Golfer of the Year Award went to Matt Williams. Good job guys.

Director Mike Moraitis reminded everyone that the proposed new rules (regarding hazards, dropping the ball, etc.) DO NOT come into effect until January 2019.

Director Matt Huntington announced GOM award winners for December. Gross winner was Mel Collins with a 71 (so that’s why Mel decided to rejoin the club) and Net winner was Lloyd Lee with a 63.

Director Mike Montgomery gave a brief recap of the Celebration of Life recently held for Ken Louie in the Big White Tent. Mike then assisted Rhonda in presenting the Grand Poo-Bah headgear to new President Cliff Aichele. Nice look, Cliff.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer reminded everyone to play quickly this weekend, as we have a full field and not many hours of daylight. February’s Tournament is Select Drive, with everyone playing to 80% of their handicap. It’s a three best ball format, with a minimum of three drives per player. Dennis also noted that the Thursday Team starts play 1/15 at home against Lakewood, and that the team is looking very strong this year.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: Bob Livingstone noted that the re-rating of the course has been completed. The rating went down 0.1 and the slope went down 1 from the blue tees and 2 from the white tees.

The $50 drawing winner was David Stabelfeldt. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45.

January Membership is 322.

Can hardly believe another New Year is here. Due to issues being away the Flight Championship awards were not able to be presented until the January meeting. The matches were once again everything one would expect. The winners received a crystal trophy and $200. The Runners-up received $120. The players that lost their semi-final matches each received $50. This stipend provided by the Men’s Club. The Winners and Runner-ups were President; Ryan Boyker and Grant Wilson, Vice President; Mark Ziegenhagen and Colin Boylan, Secretary; Brian Dauk and Jeff Benedetti, Treasurer; Bill Walton and George Manyak, and Director; Dennis Smith and Lloyd Lee. The semi-final group was Rich Boyker, Steve Giroux, Joey Schilling, Cliff Aichele, Don Didier, Dale Green, Tim Hodge, Ryan Huff, David Lee and Shaun Ferguson.

We are in process of constructing our 25-man team for the 2018 Quad Club. The event will be Saturday April 28 and is returning to El Dorado. The Pros will tee it up first at 7:00 am. Players who won 3 points last year at Lakewood have anchored spots on this years’ team and will be given first dibs. Other members who scored well or have the potential to score well will be recruited to put together a team to win so we can place the Quad Club trophy back in our trophy case!

During Daylight Savings Time a Putting Tournament will be held on the south putting green each month on the Tuesday of the monthly meeting starting around 5:30 pm. Flight Match Play Championships will close the year with matches starting as early as August 1.

Well we got 5 cards turned in which is not bad for January. Matt Williams won both ways for Gross and Net and he will take the gross plaque. Rich Gilmore had a very nice round with a net 68 and he is only a 9 handicap, gross is normally won by a 18 or 20 handicap, Rich lost the card off to Matt on the back but he will still suit up next year for the golfer of the year tournament 15 or so months from now. Great job you two Jabronies. Golfer of the year is looking to be in April, i am kind of waiting to see how Saturday team play shakes out as many guys on the team will be in the tournament

Gentlemen,

First of all I would like to congratulate everyone on a great pace of play. We only had 1 group falter 32 minutes behind which is completely unacceptable in a Scramble. This is 20 minutes of time we never get back. As always the scores in the Scramble were all pretty close. First place “A” gross went to the team of Livy, Ziggy, N. Busch, J. Nathon, and J. Castlen. They shot a fine gross 58. Livy’s only comment was if Josh Castlen is a 10 hcp he is a 6’2” Fighter Pilot. You get the drift of this one.

Net “A” winners were Matt Wilson, D. Didier, R. Creighton, T. Hodge and K. Cheong with a nice 52. In the “B” Flight your gross winners winning on a card off were S. Davis, C. Boylan, B. Hudzeitz, W. McCollum and D. Conne with a 60. Losing the gross but winning the net was the team of D. Tramer, J. Byers, A. Ostberg, S. Brown and B. Wilcox with a nice 51. (You guys want to win tournaments you need to know how to pick a good team like me. They used my 3 drives, 1 approach shot and 0 of my putts.)

In the “C” Flight your gross winners were G. Manyak, A. Coyne, J. Coates and M. Meyer with a nice 62. Winning the net and I can’t figure out why they are not on the “BAD BOY LIST” as they seem to WIN every month was T. Conlisk, D. Russell, Doc Clark, D. Bellamy, and P. Douglas with a score of 51. All the results are posted on the website.

Coming up is the Select Drive on Sunday, February 18th. The tournament format is a 3 Best Ball, you must use at least 3 drives from each player, and you play at 80% of your current handicap. We have a really big field for this one as time is an issue. We have 195 players, so we are going to have to make sure everyone keeps pace with the group ahead of them. We will be marshalling the course. Once again the Par 3’s will be at the whites or closer, as I believe this helps speed up play. I do have a few openings right now so anyone interested in playing send me an email and will try and get you in.

ALL THOSE TEAMS WHO SIGNED UP WITH “TBA” IN SOME SPOTS YOU HAVE UNTIL THE MONDAY BEFORE THE MEETING TO FILL THOSE OR I WILL FILL THEM FOR YOU!!!

Last of all, I will be taking signups for the Pat Harris St. Paddy’s Day Waltz which is on Sunday, March 18th. Same as always, come to the meeting , put your name on the slip of paper and put it in the pitcher (the one without the beer) and we will draw them out. The format is a 2-3-4 WALTZ and we are going to play the “COMBO TEES.”

February 2018 Newsletter

The Handicap system of the USGA has one main purpose; “is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by enabling players of different abilities to compete on an equitable basis. The System provides a fair Course Handicap for each player.” This is also the goal of your Handicap Committee at EDMC.

The Handicap Committee reviews players scoring records and playing ability on a regular basis to help us “level the playing field’. It is no “fun” giving your opponent 6 shots per round only to be loose by 12 shots net.

The Handicap System works on 2 basic premises;
• "the player will try to make the best score at every hole in every round regardless of where the round is played,”

• “The player will post every acceptable round for peer review”

The player and the players Handicap Committee have joint responsibility for adhering to these premises.

Your handicap committee understands that everyone can have a "career round" and the handicap system provides for those rounds. The concern comes when the same golfers’ keeps scooting net 68 or lower on a “frequent basis.”

If the Handicap Committee has you playing to your Low Index or on a “reduced Handicap list” we are just trying to level the field in our estimation. If you are playing to your LI, you probably have won 3 or more EDMC events in the past rolling 12 months. Players who are on a reduced index list are probably shooting lower scores faster than the USGA Handicap System can catch up or having too many “career rounds".

Players who have been reduced by EDMC have the right to appeal our decision by contacting any Board Member or Handicap Committee member ; Bob Livingstone, Kerry Bryan, Al Ostberg , or myself.

I’ll start off by saying that I’m sorry I had to miss the February General Meeting, but sometimes duty calls! A big thank you to Nick Zamora for filling in.

March is here, and that means we get to start playing our own ball. The Pat Harris St. Patrick’s Day Waltz is coming up on Sunday the 18th, and hopefully the luck of the Irish will help you win some points. Daylight Saving starts on Sunday the 11th giving Director Mike Vaughn enough daylight to put on a putting contest prior to the meeting on Tuesday the 13th. Come on out early and sink some putts.

In other news, our Thursday and Saturday teams gave it their all but sadly came up a little short, as neither team qualified for the playoffs this year. Dennis and Omar did a fantastic job as Team Play Captains and their dedication is apparent. I’m sure they will come out strong next season!

It’s great to see so many new names showing up on the roster each week. This shows how desirable our club is and that it’s growing! We should all make a point of welcoming and encouraging new members to get involved. Try including a new member in your group, welcome them to your table on meeting night, show them the ropes and introduce them to your friends. Dare I say it… “MAKE ELDO GREAT AGAIN”

FEBRUARY 2018 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner was Chef Roberto Bingamini’s special Italian menu – salad, fettuccine, ravioli, red and white sauces, garlic bread and cookies. Nothing too special this month but it’s still a deal at $7.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Past President Nick Zamora (filling in for President Cliff Aichele) who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 95 members in attendance, including other Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Dennis Tramer, Mike Montgomery, Dick Scoville, Don Marmion and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone (who showed up very late and is under investigation for “failure to arrive in a timely manner”).

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. Nick then informed all present about the recent passing of Dave Dvorchak, a long- time member and all-time character. A moment of silence was observed in memory of Dave.


Nick next had new members come up and introduce themselves. New members present included Andrew Fernandes, Kurt Hall, Emmet Hargrave, Ray Mock, John Sanossian, and Dana Walker, who all received the first time new member tour from Communications Director Mike Montgomery.

Club Pro Tim Johnson then discussed the Tee Off Together Foundation “Marlin Briscoe Charity Invitational” to be held at Rec Park on Friday March 23rd.This foundation and tournament benefit boys and girls mainly from North Long Beach. Entry fee is $125 for this truly worthwhile event.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Matt Huntington, filling in for Special Events Director Omar Diaz (who was attending the Pairing Party for the Genesis LA Open at Riviera, where that lucky #@%*^ gets to play in the Pro-Am) announced the events for this month’s Select Drive: CTP on #3 and #12 (paying 5 places per flight) and in-the-circle (for A and B Flights; on the green for the C Flight) on #9 and #17. Matt also announced the Golfers of the Month for January. Gross winner was Matt Williams with a 74, and Net winner was Rich Gilmore with a 68. Good job men. Matt noted that the Saturday Team was still hanging in there in hopes of making the play-offs; the Thursday Team not so much. With Daylight Saving Time beginning prior to the March meeting, all three of our pre-meeting events will start next month: the 9 Hole Tournament, the Putting Contest, and the Derby. Come early and have some fun (and maybe win a couple of bucks).

Entertainment Director Lucero noted that the January Away Tournament at Rec Park had 90 players, the most in an Away Tournament that anyone could remember. He also reminded us that this year the Weekender will be held in Laughlin on April 6-8. Sign up with Lucero as soon as possible to reserve a spot.

Director Mike Vaughn reminded us that El Do is hosting the Quad Club Tournament on April 28th, and that the Flights Championship will start in August.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer reminded everyone to play quickly this weekend, as we have a full field (190 players) and not many hours of daylight. February’s Tournament is Select Drive, with everyone playing to 80% of their handicap. It’s a three best ball format, with a minimum of three drives per player.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: Handicap/SCGA Director Jerry Leininger announced that Dan Ahern (God bless him) has donated two tickets to the Genesis LA Open to the club. Jerry auctioned them off, with the high bidder ended up being Monty Bisson. Jerry made the wise decision to immediately donate the money to the Tee Off Together Foundation. Nice work Jerry and Monty.

The $50 drawing winner was Matt Mendenhall. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30.

Daylight Savings Time starts this year at 2:00 am Sunday March 10 and ends Sunday November 5 at 2:00 am. The Putting Contest will be held on meeting night during the months of March, April, May, June, July, August, September and October at or about 5:15 and continue to 6:45 pm on the south green. The Board has voted to add a $25 stipend to each month's putting tournament. Normal participants are welcomed back and new players are encouraged to participate in this fun activity. Bring your putter and take a shot at winning a little extra cash. Format changes monthly.

Quad Club is to be contested Saturday April 28 at El Dorado. We are playing to bring the Quad Club trophy back to our trophy case. Teams will consist of 25 players. Cost to play will be $55 per player which includes green fee and prize fund. Your handicap will be determined per your April 15 Current Index. Please have your money to me in cash or a check payable to “Mike Vaughn” ASAP, NLT the 1 Gross / 2 Net tournament on Saturday April 21. The first group starting time will be Club Pros at 7:00 am. The President / Vice President group will most likely tee off second, with groups proceeding from lower to higher handicap. It is expected we will be playing from the Combo tees. The format will be Medal play using the 3-2-1-0 point system. The initial players sought to be on this team have been contacted. Players who win 3-points this year will have a roster spot guaranteed for the 2019 event when the event returns to Skylinks.

Flight Championships will be put together in mid-summer. Those matches will get underway as early as August 1. Player entry fee will remain at $20. Signup sheets to be posted NLT June 1. More on that when the time gets closer.

Now onto the February Golfers of the Month. I’ve been telling everyone to turn their cards in because it’s an easy time to win in February. Well guess what? The winner for gross shot 81, and what makes that even better...IT WAS ME!!! You guys let this chop win, you all should be ashamed. I will lock up DFL right now for next years GOY tourney. Net had a few cards turned in WHICH IS NICE. Matt Williams won gross last month and almost got Net this month, both him had Big Josh Castlen had 69’s. The winner is Daddy Don Marmion as he snaked it out with a solid 68, way to go Don!! “WHO'S YOUR DADDY?”

First of all I would like to apologize to everyone as the sunrise table I used from the NAVY did not account for the time change so every one's times are about 50 minutes later than what they signed up for at the meeting. Also those of you who put TBD on your sheet you have until the Monday before the meeting to give me a name or I will fill it from the standby list.

The Select Drive went well although it did take my team 3 HOURS to play the front nine, but only 2:15 to play the back. I don’t know what happened, but 3 hours is not acceptable. Let’s try and do better in March as we will have groups teeing off around 12:30. One team shot a phenomenal Gross score of 201, 14 under par. They were led by “GONZO” who shot a great 66. He’s pretty good when he can play off other team mates drives. Those helping Gonzo were Ryder Epson ( I guess he’s better than his Dad Joe), Austin Barisoff, Adam Horodyski, and Joe Lederer (maybe Brett should take some lessons from his cousin). Nice shooting boys! Here are your winners for each Flight: Net “A” shooting the lowest net score of the day with a 183 were John Wong, John Suttie, Bret Holloway, Tim Mincarelli & Sammy Krishna. “B” Flight with a nice 185 were Jim Olivier, Miguel Espinoza, Rich Boyker, Jeff Degraaff & Pingo Zamarippa. “C” Flight with a 184 winners were Rob Kuehn, Dudley, Doug Lee, John Jameson & Ziggy. What an upset, you look at this team on paper and you would think “what a bad team”. Ziggy must have drove 6 tee balls into “Cockland” for this to happen. Congratulations to all the winners and you can see all the results on our fantastic website.

Coming up next is our Pat Harris St. Paddy’s Day Waltz on Sunday, March 18th. As stated above because of the time change our first group won’t be teeing off until 6:56 and we will go to around 12:30. So everyone, please keep up with the group ahead of you. Once again we have around 190 players. The scoring for this Waltz is a 2-3-4 and we will be playing the COMBO TEES.

At the March meeting I will be taking signups for the 1 Gross & 2 Net that is on Saturday, April 21. So take note this is a week later than we normally have it. We moved it back one week as Lucero is having his FANTASTIC TRIP TO LAUGHLIN THE FIRST WEEK OF APRIL. Any questions give me a call. Congrats to all the winners for the Select Drive. We had some nice paydays for a couple of guys in B & C flight. Brent Huntington & Jeff Benedetti where the only 2 guys in B-flight to get in the circle on 17 for a nice $130 payout & Brian Dauk cashing on both the Closest to the pins holes for $170. The big winner in C-flight was Mike Montgomery cashing in all 4 events for $210 nice work Mike. Next month we can have some more options with Special Events, Skins will be back for sure.

As for Saturday Team Play we had a solid season going 4-2, but are going to miss the playoffs this year. My 2 year run as Capitan is up and I want to thank all the guys on the team for there dedication and trust in me. Next year's new Captain is Rich Boyker and he will do a great job.

And we call it the WEEKENDER and it just happens to be in LAUGHLIN on April 6th, 7th, and 8th

Our regular tournament is Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th. Saturday we will be playing the Rio Golf Course. Sunday we will be playing Laughlin Ranch. Friday the 6th, is practice round and will be played at the Mojave Resort.

For all those planing to go, Please let me know if you will extending your stay either Thursday or Sunday. As discussed in the general meeting last month, full payment is required by March 18th.

March Handicap Newsletter


This month we start what I like to call “real golf” where you play your own ball to score our monthly tournaments.

That also means we start posting our scores for those tournaments. Here are just a couple of quick reminders on EDMC posting and what is expected from our members.

Please make sure to post all of your scores using the Equitable Stroke control that reduces high scores based on your course handicap. The ESC is posted near the course computer and in the hallway for your reference.

There are several ways for you to post your scores, at the golf course computer, on the internet / Cell, on GHIN, or the SCGA web site (SCGA.org.) If all else fails, you can contact me and I will post for you.

The Handicap Committee will notify you one time if you did not post one of our tournament rounds or an away trip. After the first warning, if you fail to post again we will post your score for you with a P or Penalty Score. As I have mentioned before, a P score is posting your lowest score in you scoring record, regardless of the score for that round.

Please take a few extra minutes to remember to post your score and we will avoid posting any P rounds to your file.

El Dorado MC has had a great start to the year, our first 3 tournaments had large turnouts, all averaging around 180 players. Daylight saving time has kicked-in and we had plenty of daylight for The Pat Harris Waltz, but let’s not get lax with the pace of play. We all seem to know the sprint to the finish starts at hole 16, so it’s imperative you do your best to stay in position on the holes leading up to 16. We have worked very hard as a club on our pace of play and thanks to everyone its made a huge difference, let’s keep it up!

April is a busy month; the Weekender to Laughlin, the 1-Gross 2-Net Tournament and The Quad Club hosted by El Dorado are all coming up quickly. We also begin signups for one of our most popular tournaments of the year, the Member-Member (May 19th and 20th).

As a reminder, the April 1 Gross 2-Net tournament will be played Saturday, the 21st, instead of the weekend following our general meeting like normal. This will give everyone that went to Laughlin an extra weekend to recover.

MARCH 2018 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner was some old fashioned comfort food – salad, meat loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, macaroni and cheese, green beans, rolls and cookies. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 120 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Dennis Tramer, Mike Montgomery, Don Marmion, Rich Dennison, Tom Retterath, and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone.

Cliff next had new members come up and introduce themselves. New members present included Jeff Livesly, Brock Livesly, Rudy Mena, Matthew Dao, and Pato Munoz, who all received the first time new member tour from Director Jerry Leininger.

Director Jerry Leininger reminded us to post our own scores this next tournament. If your somehow forget to post immediately after the round, there are several additional ways to post, including on-line.

Director Matt Huntington announced the Golfers of the Month for February. Net winner was Don “Who’s Your Daddy” Marmion with a very nice 68. Awesome, fellow septuagenarian. Gross Winner was Matt himself with a stellar 81!! Basically all you had to do to win this month was show up and fill out a card, and only Matt did. Golfer of the Year Awards went to Sonny Ninkum with a Gross 70, and Lloyd “Money” Lee with a Net 74. Our first of the year 9 Hole Tournament had 11 participants. Jim Ridenour took honors, followed by Henry DeGraaff, Don Didier and Rich Dennison.

Director Omar Diaz announced this month’s Special Events. They include Skins, In the Circle A&B Flights/On the Green C Flight on #3, Beat the Pro (Brian Gonzalez), and The Pat Dance (net par or better on 4/5/6, 10/11/12, and 16/17/18). Omar also congratulated the Saturday Team for going 4-2 and narrowly missing the play-offs. Omar is turning over Captaincy of the Team for next year to Rich Boyker. Thank you Omar and good luck Rich – big shoes to fill.

Director Mike Montgomery raised the issue of groups not being ready on the first tee, which obviously causes problems for everyone after them. Be ready or suffer the consequences.

Entertainment Director Lucero noted that there are still a couple of spots available for the Weekender in Laughlin on April 6-8. Sign up with Lucero as soon as possible to reserve a spot. The next away tournament will be June 2 at Mile Square.

Director Mike Vaughn disappointedly noted that the rain washed out the putting contest, which means a bigger payout next month. Mike reminded us that El Do is hosting the Quad Club Tournament on April 28th, and that the Flights Championship will start in August.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer also lamented the slow play last tournament, especially on the front 9. This month is the Pat Harris 2-3-4 Waltz, from the combo tees. Dennis reminded everyone to play quickly this weekend, as we have a full field (190 players), and times from 6:42 to 12:12. The Board has decided for April to reserve one tee time just for new member singles or twosomes, to help everyone get acquainted a little better. Dennis also reminded everyone that to be eligible to play in May’s Member/ Member Tournament you must have played in at least 3 tournaments – home and/or away – in the past 12 months.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: Handicap/SCGA Director Jerry Leininger announced that he is taking sign-ups for the April Derby prior to the meeting. It’s a good way to meet other members and it’s a lot of fun. Even I cashed once. Jerry also noted that the Course Manager is looking for 6 additional Golf Ambassadors to help marshal. See Jerry or Rick in the Pro Shop if you’re interested.

Well we had an interesting GOY tournament at the beginning of the year. We could not figure out what the weather was going to do. It rained a slight little bit but was not too bad. The weather reflected the scores though...UGLYYYY! Sonny Nimkhum won the gross flight with a very solid 70 beating three varying rounds of 76 by Scott Paul, Eric Miller, and Dave Rubin. Lloyd Lee won net with a 74 and that is higher than I was expecting, but Lloyd finds a way to win regularly.

Sonny’s 70 in the tournament was just enough to win the month's GOM as well. His back 9 won the card off as Matt Mendenhall had a Great 70 (net 64) but Sonny had a better back nine with a 34. Matt also got edged out for net as Tom Conlisk had a net 29 back nine for his 64. But neither would take it as Mr. Jeff Tanner had an amazing 63. There were some great rounds in March guys. If you ever have any questions just shoot me a text or email, see at the next meeting for the 9 hole tournament.

Gentlemen, The Pat Harris St. Paddy’s Day Waltz on Sunday March 18th was a long day. I was there 13 hours a long time for an old geezer like me and we have more players in April. So I am going to keep beating you up about the pace of play, we need to do better. Please try to keep up through out the whole round, not just the last 4 holes so you don’t get penalized. Now for the tournament, Finally dethroning Gonzo & his boys for Gross were Matt Huntington, Matt Pegan, Dave Rubin, Pato Munoz, & Ryder Epson shooting a pretty nice 24 under 187. Nice shooting boys. Your “A” winners for the second tourney in a row were John Wong, John Suttie, Bret Holloway, Sammy Krishna & Mike Misener. These guys better ride Wong while they can because he won’t be a 10HCP much longer. In “B” there was a HUGE upset as shooting 24 under 187 was the Team of Mike Moraitis, Chuck Demarco, Greg Andersen, Eric Lishka, & Jeff Zukerman. Now for the “Bagger” “C” Flight and shooting a whopping 30 under par 181 were the bandits Ken Rademacher, Matt Palma, Jim McDavid, John Kilgore & Jeff Nakao. Jerry’s got an eye on you boys. As always all the results are posted on the website.
Coming up SATURDAY April 21 is our 1 Gross 2 Net Tournament. Speed of play will be very important as right now we have 210 golfers, 20 more than last month and our times go from 6:06 to 12:11. As always there are NO GROSS PAYOUTS IN THIS EVENT. Also remember you HAVE TO USE LOW SCORE FOR GROSS. EXAMPLE: I birdie 6 with 2 pops, all my guys make for or higher, we have to use my 3 for gross and I don’t get a net 1. For this event we will be playing the “WHITE TEES” and hopefully this will speed up play.
Next up on May 19 & 20 is our “Biggie” of the year the Member-Member. This is a Partner event and we play Best Ball on Saturday & “Count Em All” on Sunday. As usual we will have a pairings party the Friday evening before the Tournament. Cost for this event is $125 per player and the signup slips are posted on the website and I will have some on our table in the Pro Shop. Remember to be elgible to play in this event you must have played in 3 El Dorado events within 1 year of this years tournament (May 2017-April 2018).

Let's start by saying thank you for everyone that will be joining us this coming weekend at Laughlin, everybody involved on this trip has received emails from Dennis or myself explaining tee times and at what time we should be at the golf courses. MOST IMPROVED GOLFER JAN -MARCH

In a very close race, this Quarter's M I G is ....Mark Ziegenhagen who went from a 8.2 starting index to a 5.9 ending Index. That is an Improvement factor of 1.128. Congrats Mark and see Livy for your $50.00 (if you can take the ribbing). Mark was very closely followed by George Lanes, Charlie Walters, Steve Cook, and our Pres, Cliff Aichele.

Many of you may have read about the PROPOSED HANDICAP CHANGES SLATED FOR 2020. Please remember these are only Proposed changes and the USGA will have a comment time for responses before anything is finalized.
Here are a few of the 9 Proposed changes
1.Easier to establish a Handicap - NEW 54 holes to use ; Current 90 holes.

2. Your handicap may go down a point or so - NEW Will use 8 of last 20 scores - Current use 10 of last 20 scores.

3. Novice players will fell more like getting a Handicap - NEW -Max Handicap is 54.0 regardless of gender - Current - Max is 36.4 for men and 40.4 for women.

4.Your Handicap will be less volatile - NEW A "mechanism will prevent extreme upward movement in your handicap - Current No limits on sudden surges in your handicap.

5. Course weather conditions will be taken into consideration NEW - An '"algorithm"will account for adverse weather and course conditions ( Do not ask me how that is going to take place !!!) Current - all scores count the same regardless of weather or course conditions.

6. Your handicap will update more frequently - NEW - Updated DAILY Current - Updated on the 1st and 15 of each month.

7. No fretting on max score on each hole (ESC) NEW You can only take up to "double - bogey" Current - The higher your Index; the higher the score permitted.

A long explanation I know especially since these are only RECOMMENDATIONS. I will keep you advised once more information is available.

The month of May means one thing; it’s time for the Member Member Tournament. This is without a doubt one of the most popular tournaments of the year. Time is running out, so If you haven’t already done so, get your signup slip turned into Dennis and be part of the fun!

I would like to thank all of you who participated in the Quad Club and a special thanks to Director Mike Vaughn for putting together another successful tournament. El Dorado was the host course this year and as always superintendent Marc Lilleberg, had the place in tip top shape. I had a fun day even though as your President was unable to win a single point, I’ll get ‘em next year!

Starting in May, I will begin taking signups for the Club Championship- June 16th, 23rd and 24th. The Partner Best Ball Blind Draw Tournament on June 16th doubles as Round 1 of the Club Championship. Signup forms are available on the website, in the pro shop and at the general meeting. The cost is $100 paid separately from the Partner Best Ball Blind Draw Tournament entry. To qualify, a Member must have participated in at least three Club events (this includes monthly tournaments, Team Play matches, weekender or away trips) in the twelve months since the last Club Championship.

APRIL 2018 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, in the Restaurant (due to a wedding being held in the Big White Tent). The pre-meeting dinner was salad, Italian pasta, white and red sauces and chicken, but no garlic toast. The meeting was called to order at 7:01 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 90 members in attendance, which was good for a non-sign up meeting. Past Presidents in attendance were Jerry Leininger, Dennis Tramer, Mike Montgomery, Don Marmion, Bob Livingstone, Nick Zamora and Terry Fulford. Life Member in attendance was Bob Livingstone.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved as submitted in the Newsletter.

President Cliff noted that we are pleased with the number of new members in the Club but reviewed a Club Policy that for the Club tournaments to which thousands of dollars are added to the purse (namely the upcoming Member-Member, the Club Championship and the Christmas Tournament) you must have played in three club events (including monthly tourneys, away trips or the Weekender or Team Play matches) and that the Board has just voted to confirm this policy. One new member was in attendance and was introduced and given a run down on the operation of the Club by Past Prez Nick Zamora.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Jerry Leininger noted that members Kevin Mehlbrech and Paul Standish had qualified for the just completed SCGA Amateur Net Championship at Industry Hills GC. He also announced that the First Quarter Most Improved Golfer was Mark “Ziggy” Ziegenhagen, who received a $50 stipend for his accomplishment.

Director Mike Montgomery reminded everyone of the Club’s Slow Play policy. In the March event, three groups were penalized two strokes (one of which then fell from a tie for 2nd place to a non-cashing finish). The key is ready golf…you do not necessarily need to run the final few holes, but you should be aware that when you finish a hole and your group is losing sight of the group in front of you, that you should probably go tee off rather than watching your group finish. Mike also noted that long-time member Tom Braun had suffered through some significant health issues and a back surgery and could use your thoughts and prayers. Finally, Mike announced that long time member Dwight Summers’ wife had died suddenly that morning.

Director Matt Huntington announced the Golfers of the Month for February. Net winner was Jeff Tanner with a “respectable” net 62, and the gross winner was Sonny Nimkhum, who “double dipped” with a 70 that was good enough to win both the Golfer of the Year tourney and the March GOM. In keeping with Matt’s prior month’s announcement that sometimes you just need to show up to win (when his 81 was the only card turned in and he won the March GOM) he presented 1st and 2nd place 9-Hole money to the only two 9-hole competitors, Pete Douglas and Dale Green. Remember the Club adds $50 to this event every month, so sign up, play and win something!

Director Omar Diaz announced this month’s Special Events. They include Skins, two circles, closest on #17 and a new event called “Up Livy’s Creek” which will be net par or better on the 6 holes that border the creek created at Mr. Livingstone’s urging in 1999. The holes will be #1, #2, #8, #11, #13 and #15.

Entertainment Director Lucero recapped the successful and fun Weekender recently completed in Laughlin and thanked the Directors who attended and helped (Dennis – organizational help, Livy – scoring, and Monty – skins). The next event will be June 2nd at Mile Square. Signups will occur soon!

Director Mike Vaughn congratulated (and paid) 6 gentlemen who tied for 1st in the putting tournament at 2-under par (no one really shined, apparently). Remember that the Club adds $25 to this every month during Daylight Savings Time, so bring your putter and your $5/entry. Mike also recapped the upcoming Quad Club match at Eldo on April 28th.

Past Prez Nick Zamora recapped the Derby won by Henry Degraff (who bombed his first tee shot on #1 into the Driving Range) and Mike Roddy (who clearly stepped up after his partner’s start) who received $45 each for what never looked like an eventual winner! Remember the Club adds $50 to this every month, so contact Nick in advance of the meeting to reserve a spot.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer reiterated some thoughts on Ready Golf and common sense and asked everyone to do their part…Dennis really stepped up to do the generally thankless VP job this year (generally, since he does get a free beverage here and there) but it is no fun to have to be at the course from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM, so all players are asked to be efficient. April event is 1 Gross, 2 Net and Dennis explained that the lowest gross ball must be used for gross regardless of if that ball would be a much better net score. Tee times will go from 6:06 AM to 12:15 PM. There will be no gross payout in any flights due to the format requiring both gross and net scores. For the upcoming Member-Member you MUST provide your entry fee when signing up! There will be a pairings party hosted by the Course on the Friday evening before the event. Format is 4-ball from the Blue tees on Saturday, Aggregate from the white tees on Sunday, using 6-month LI and Sunday you will be required to post as a “T-Score”. Finally Dennis announced that the Board had agreed to set aside one tee time in each tourney for new members that do not have a group, so do not lose heart if your name doesn’t get called immediately.

Hi guys, Quad Club was held here on Saturday April 28, 2018. With grief it is reported that we lost to Lakewood by 2 points, 48.5 to 46.5. Rec Park scored 35 and Skylinks scored 20. We had a strong team, just didn’t get the job done. Eight of our players took 3 points (Grant Wilson, Noah Busch, Daniel Kletke, John Wong, Mark Ziegenhagen, George Lanese, Lloyd Lee and Ruben Gonzales). Mark Baldwin and Matt Williams both tied for the win taking 2.5 points. We had a Net Skins game in this event and all but (2) holes were cut (13 was cut by net eagles; Grant Wilson, Mark Baldwin and Kenneth Cheong).

The April Putting Contest was “Count ‘em All”. We had (24) players in this event! There was an 8-way tie for 2nd with 17, and a 6-way tie for the win with 16. 2nd place returned $7 ($56) while 1st paid $20 ($120). The format for May will likely be different so be sure to get to the meeting early and bring your flat stick. Action will start at or about 5:15 and continue to 6:45 pm on the south green.

Well I hope we get a better showing for the 9 Hole Tournament as we only had 2 DAMN players participate in April. They both played very average and both won big because we put a nice amount in to attract players. We will continue to play the White tees for the Tuesday 9-Hole on 5/8.

Last month we had some really good scores for the Golfer of the Month. Taking Gross was Mike Roddy with a very Nice 35-33 for a Gross 68, nice work Mike. Net we had Wally Gordon fire a gross 76 in the tournament for a net 64 (35 on the back) Hey Wally, where the hell is that when you fill in on my squad, damn it!!!!!!!. But it was not good enough to beat Scott Lindman!!! Scotty shot Gross 70 as a 6 HCP (net 34 on the back). Mr. Larry Bartley had a respectable 66 as well. . Keep the scores coming in and keep up the good work on filling out the cards correctly once again.

The 1 Gross 2 Net on April 21st went pretty well. We ended up with 203 golfers, 13 more than the previous month, and we finished 45 minutes quicker than March. I guess the “white tees” did help. GOOD JOB! One thing though, the front 9 is still brutal around 2:45 so PLEASE WAVE UP ON 3 & 9 If there is a group on the tee box.

As for your winners, in the “A” Flight winning on a card off shooting a fine 21 under par 195 were Josh Castlen, Eric Miller, Frank Molloy, Mike Roddy & Rafael Holcombe. In the “B” it was perennial baggers Brian Ball, Dewayne Kirksey, Scott Lindman, Matt McGuire & George Devries with an unbelievable 25 under par 191. Nice shooting boys. In the “C” Flight, commonly known as the CHOP FLIGHT, shooting a nice 18 under 198, and riding the “one legged wonder” Liebeck was they team of Kerry Bryan, Scott Paul, Mike Collins, Jim McCullough & Steve Liebeck. Kery owes me a tottie as I recruited Liebeck for him. Also worth noting is the Gross golfer I recruited for Terry “the tin man” Fulford was Nick Mardesich who shot a great 68. Nick led them to a third place finish. As always, all the results are posted on the website.

Coming up Saturday May 19th and Sunday May 20th is our biggie of the year the Member-Member. THIS TOURNAMENT IS PLAYED AT YOUR 6 MONTH LOW INDEX. Saturday is Partner Best Ball so your 6 month Low handicap will be reduced 10% for that day which will be played from the Blue Tees. Sunday is aggregate and will be played from the White Tees. COST IS $125 for this event. In addition to the "A"-"B"-"C" Flights we will also again have a "GAP 8 FLIGHT. No matter what your handicaps if your teams handicap differential is 8 or more you will be placed in this Flight.

I will be taking signups until Sunday May 13th, You can either fill out your slips and put them in the Men’s Club drawer or mail them to the PO BOX. If you mail them they must be there by the date I listed. If a group wants to get in after that date I will try to accommodate you, but you will play LAST both days. On Friday the 18th, we will have a pairings party in the bar area which will go from 5:30-7:30. Bing is kind enough to put out appetizers for us. I was also informed it is very possible the Matts, Mendenhall & Williams, might be doing the “special event” that I have done the past few years. Come on over and pick your favorite team. Last but not least, Omar will be there taking Special Event signups for all the games over the weekend. Any questions give me a call.

At the May meeting I will be taking signups for the June 16th Partner Best Ball Blind Draw. This event will be played from the Blue Tees and your handicap will be reduced 10%. This is a fun event as over the years I have seen guys shoot net 82 and then draw a good player and win $70. You never know and this means I have a chance to cash. This is also the 1st round of the Club Championships. There is a Championship Flight, “A” Flight & “B” Flight. The following 2 rounds are the next Saturday & Sunday. If you play in this please make out 2 separate checks, $60 for the Tournament and $100 for the Club Championships. The Club Championship money goes to Cliffy. DO NOT WRITE ONE CHECK FOR BOTH!!!!

With the Weekender in our rearview mirror, is time for Mile Square on Saturday, June 2nd. We will be playing the Players course as foursomes from the White Tees with a 2 Best Ball format.

Total cost of green fees is $80 plus $10 for skins. Our first tee time will be at 9:30. We need to have our players list confirmation by May 22nd, if your name is on that list you are responsible for the green fees. The course is in great shape and the weather should be perfect. We have played a few rounds where I have asked you to post your own scores. Most of you are veterans of the club and have done as requested; thank you. New members I have had a few questions come up so I want to review some terms that may assist you in posting scores.

HANDICAP INDEX -"USGA's service mark to indicate a players potential based on a course of standard playing difficulty" It is expressed as a number and taken to one decimal place (10.4). This report comes out on the 1st and 15th of each month and is posted in the glass case outside the bas entrance

COURSE HANDICAP - "The USGA's mark to indicate the number of handicap strokes a player receives from a specific set of tees of a course being played to adjust a players scoring ability to the level of a "scratch golfer" You find your handicap Index and go to the Course Handicap table (posted near the computer or in the hall way. Find your Handicap Index and go across to find your Course Handicap. Example A course with a 123 Slope - 10.4 Index- Converts to a 11 COURSE HANDICAP fore that round.

You need to know your index to use the Course Handicap Table.

LOW INDEX - Your lowest Handicap Index for the last 12 months. This LI stays with you for 12 months or until you get a lower Low Index Handicap number. A LI and Current Handicap Index number being equal means you are playing to your best potential in 12 months.

BOGEY GOLFER- - "A male "bogey golfer" is a player who has a Course Handicap of approximately 20 on a course with standard difficulty; can hit tee shots an average of 200 yards, and can reach a 370 yard hole in two shots at sea level"

Our May Member- Member tournament is one of our "big events" and is played at you LI. Please pay close attention to the "conditions of competition" on the scorecards or hand outs at the table for correct posting of your scores

Things are definitely heating up in June. First up on the 2nd we have the Mile Square away tournament (check in with director Lucero for openings), and then on the 16th the Partner Best Ball Blind Draw/first round of the Club Championship, followed up on June 23rd and 24th by rounds two and three of the Club Championship.

Last month’s Member Member was a blast! Dennis put in the hours to make everything run as smooth as silk. There were lots of guys focused on Livy’s scoreboards, as always, to see how they measured up in their flight. There was a good turnout Friday night for the parings party. Bing and his crew took care of us with plenty of hors d’oeuvres and adult beverages.

Since I will not be at the general meeting, Director Terry Fulford will be taking signups for the Club Championship. The greater the participation the fiercer the competition! So get signed up ASAP. Please note meeting night is the deadline to get your sign-up slips turned in for the C.C.

The Board of Directors would very much like to get you involved. We are always looking for new guys that have fresh new ideas and this is one of the best ways to keep our club relevant. It’s not as tough as you might think. It’s very rewarding and a great way to give back to El Dorado Men’s Club. Don’t hesitate to contact me or any board member. We always look forward to hearing from you and welcome your suggestions on how to improve our club.

Our general meeting will he held on Tuesday, June 12th in the tent. Be sure to stick around until the end because your name could be the one drawn for the monthly $50 give away. Remember you must be present to win.

APRIL 2018 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, under the Big Tent. The pre-meeting dinner was salad, chicken fajitas, rice and beans, etc. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were at least 90 members in attendance. Past Presidents in attendance were Jerry Leininger, Dennis Tramer, Mike Montgomery, Bob Livingstone, Nick Zamora, Don Marmion and Terry Fulford. Life Member in attendance was Bob Livingstone.

There was a motion to approve both the Treasurer’s Report and the concise and well-written Secretary’s Report for May. The motion passed unanimously.

President Cliff deflected questions about two consecutive absences by Secretary Rob Kuehn, assuring the membership that he had not been removed from office for malfeasance or incompetence, and that he would hopefully grace us with his presence at some eventual future date. There were three new members who introduced themselves and “took the tour” with Past President Nick. Cliff noted that he and Terry Fulford will be running the Club Championship in June (Championship Flight and likely two Handicap Flights). Forms are in the Pro Shop (where entries should be placed in the Men’s Club Drawer); entry is $100, and you must also be entered in and pay for, the June Partner’s Blind Draw. The $100 includes rounds 2 and 3 greens fees and prize fund. Cliff also noted that to avoid Mother’s Day conflicts, the Member-Member will not be the weekend immediately following the meeting but will be a week later.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Jerry Leininger noted that members will need to look at the back of their scorecards and/or the Rules Sheet for the Member-Member to see if posting will be done by the Club or each member will need to do it. As a reminder, the Sunday round from the White Tees will be posted as a “T” score. Jerry also covered the 9-hole as Matt Huntington was detained at work. Coming in 3rd was Seabass Sturdevant (net 35), Kirk Jondle (34.5) was second and the winner was Dennis “I Never Win” Tramer (34). Jerry reminded everyone that there is an envelope with 9-hole instructions in the Golf Shop and that the Club adds $50 to this each month.

Director Mike Montgomery thanked everyone for the improved attention to Pace of Play in April and reminded everyone to respect the speakers at the meeting by keeping side conversations to a minimum.

Director Omar Diaz announced the Special Events for the Member-Member – there will be $60 worth of them – and you can sign up at the Pairings Party on Friday the 18th. Omar also announced the Golfer of the Month winners for Matt. Gross went to Mike Roddy and Net to Wally Gordon (a later correction was reported that Scott Lindeman was actually the Net GOM winner, and he will receive public recognition at the June meeting).

Entertainment Director Lucero reviewed the next away event at Mile Square. The start time will be a little late due to course policies. The cost will be $90 (including skins). Lucero also noted there is likely a conflict with the current date for San Juan Hills, so pay attention to see if that gets changed.

Director Mike Vaughn was congratulated by President Cliff for his efforts on the Quad Club, but as Mike recapped in detail, Eldo lost by 2 points to Lakewood. Mike announced the 8 members who got 3 points (and split the pool to get $35 each). Mike also announced the pre-meeting putting winners. Shockingly Greg “Eggy” Englant was not the winner; that honor – with 6 aces in 9 holes – went to Grant Wilson ($75!).

Past Prez Nick Zamora recapped the Derby which was won by Jeff DeGraff (brother Henry won last month – we may need a new format!) and Scott Lindeman, for $200. Contact Nick by email or phone before the meeting to sign up; he may take entries right up to tee off, but don’t risk being left out! The cost is $20 which includes golf and cart, and the club adds $50 to this every month.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer recapped the upcoming Member-Member, the biggest event of the year! Updates were given related to the Pairings Party (with an extra-curricular activity conducted by “The Matts” – Williams and Mendenhall) on Friday the 18th, handicap reminders including 6-month LI, use Blue Tee Slope on Saturday at 90% for Better Ball, White Tee Slope on Sunday with no reduction, Sunday handicaps will determine your flight and we will again do a “Gap 8 Flight” to place groups with significant differentials between their respective handicaps together. Teams in the Gap Flight will not be eligible for the SCGA FourBall (for which the Club pays the entry fee). Dennis also stated that the June Blind Draw will be conducted at 90% of Blue Handicap. That event will be flighted after the teams are drawn. Dennis will also hold 2 starting times for singles who want to play in the Club Championship.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: Treasurer Bob Livingstone noted that the Club’s finances are very healthy, so the Board would like to add some money to the Member-Member Tee Prizes, however the By-laws limit the Board’s spending authority to $1,000 or to established and recurring items (which for the Member-Member tee prize has historically been $10 per person or approximately $1,500). As increasing the tee prize cost would exceed the established/recurring level, Club approval is needed. There was a motion and second to approve increasing the tee prize amount by up to $5 per player, and it passed overwhelmingly. (Note: Steve Liebeck suggested reducing annual membership dues instead – he was a voice of 1).

The 1st name drawn in the $50 Membership Drawing was Mark Schmillen who was in attendance. The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 PM.

Hi guys, it seems the weather is starting to get on the warm side. Just in time to enjoy the summer.

The May Putting Contest was “Aces Only”. We had (23) players in this event. 3rd Place was a two-way tie with (4) Aces for $21 each to Matt Williams and Scott Chamberlain. 2nd Place with (5) Aces sent $50 to the pocket of Larry Bartley. The winner with (6) Aces was Grant Wilson who collected $75. Thank you to the $25 stipend from the Club to help provide these nice payouts. The format next month will be shaken up a little so be sure to get to the meeting early and bring your flat stick. Action will start at or about 5:15 and continue to 6:45 pm on the south green.

Entries for the Flights Championship will be taken starting meeting night, Tuesday June 12. Entry remains at $20 per player. All entry money will create the prize pool which will be returned.

Well another month in the books. Not too many GOM cards turned in surprisingly, but the ones that were turned in were solid. Bret Holloway played great in the Member/Member, but it was the following weekend when he won Gross GOM with a 70. Great round Bret but I would expect a letter in the mail for your handicap buddy! Never seen a 6 HCP Shoot 72, 74, and 70 for three straight rounds. Just a “May”er Player I suppose. Some good rounds in net too, but none better than Scotty Davis day 1 of the Member/Member. Shot a gross 70 for a net 63. Great round Scott, but I’m think the HCP gods will come get you too.

Every show up June 12th and participate in the 9 hole tourney, would love to see a good showing this month.

The Member-Member was a great success and very competitive for 3 of the 4 flights. Winning the “A” Flight Gross was no surprise as Gonzo & Joe Lederer shot a nice 5 under 211 and won that by 9 shots over Mickey Miller & Sonny Nimkhum. Gonzo shot a sweet 65 on Sunday, He must love those White Tee like Livy. Barely surviving the “A” Flight was the Team of Josh Castlen/Corey Henn with a respectable 12 under 204 winning by 1 shot over Steve Giroux /Joey Schilling.

In the “B” Flight it was No Contest as winning by 12 shots at 16 under 200 was the team of “Honest” John Suttie & “Bagger” Bret Holloway. Bret as a 6 HCP shot 2 over for the weekend. Coming in 2nd was Mike Moraitis/ Andy Robinson with a 4 under 212. Andy must have played well! In the ‘C’ Flight, or as it is commonly known as the “CHOP” Flight, we had to go to a Card Off as the teams of Mark Schmillian/Terry Fletcher and perennial cashers Steve Cook/Dave Green both shot 8 under 208. Winners on the Card Off Mark Schmillian/Terry Fletcher. Nice job guys as it is not easy to beat those 2 baggers.

Last but not least is the “GAP 8” Flight. Lots of grumbling about this Flight, but it was the most competitive of the 4. We had another Card Off in this Flight as 2 Teams shot 7 under 209. Winning the Card Off was a team I put together 4 days before the tournament Andrew Nunez/David Lee (wonder if I get a “cut” of that winnings) over Kerry Bryan/Scott Paul, also perennial cashiers. As always all the results are posted on the website including the Special Events.

Winners in Matt Williams special event were 1st Team 31 - 2nd Team 17 – 3rd Team 15.

Coming up June 16th is the “Blind Draw” Partner Best Ball. This is a fun format as if you’re a “CRAPPIE” GOLFER LIKE TRAMER OR FULFORD you still have a chance to cash. I still have room available if anyone would like to play. This is also the 1st Round of our Club Championships. Cliff is running this with Fulford as a backup and has sign up forms on the table in the pro shop. If you are playing in this, DO NOT CALL or EMAIL ME. When you sign up if you are not in the tournament Cliff will give me a list and I will get you in. Also when you sign up you put $100 in with your form and then pay me $60 for the tournament. DO NOT WRITE ONE CHECK FOR BOTH.

At the June meeting I will be taking signups for the Saturday July 14th RED-WHITE-BLUE Tournament. For all you new Members we play 6 holes from the Blue tees and count 2 balls – 6 holes from the White tees and count 3 balls – 6 holes from the Red Tees and count 4 balls. Make sure when you get your scorecards you check the hole HCP’S as they will be different. This event is played at your current July 1st index.

Let's start by saying Mile Square is under wraps, and what a beautiful day it was. We got some good low scores and and a HOLE IN ONE by Rich Gilmore. Our gross winner was Jim Fuchs and our net winner was Ray Mock. First place went to the Cary Thomason team (bunch of sand baggers). Second place went the Larry Bartley team and third place, another group of old people, the (Mr. I never win anything) Dennis Tramer team.
On this away trip we got to see a lot of new faces, which is a good thing and we hope we get to see them on the next ones.

“The USGA handicap System is based upon the potential ability of a player rather than the average of all his scores. The USGA Handicap Research Team tells us that the average player is expected to play to his Course Handicap or better only about 25 percent of the time, average three strokes higher than his course handicap, and have a best score in 20, which is only two strokes better than his course Handicap.”

The question the handicap committee has to ask is what is the correction that needs to be made to adjust for “better than average" play?

The USGA provides the Handicap Chairman / Committee the ability to adjust a player’s index in various ways but I would like to discuss one at this time: Odds of shooting an exceptional tournament score.

Look at the following information from the USGA:

The bottom line is that the lower the net differential a lower handicap player plays, the higher are his odds of shooting that differential. The lower your handicap, the more difficult to shoot a round below your “net par.”

I hope that helps to explain some of the information used by the Handicap Committee for index reductions.

Congratulations are in order for the 2018 Club Champion: Dave Rubin. After multiple second place finishes I am happy to report that Dave got his first victory. Congrats also goes out to Colin Boylan for winning A-Flight, in a 1-hole sudden, death playoff over Randall “Kurvball” Kervin. Tom Montgomery also played 3 very solid rounds of golf to win B-Flight.

Coming up July 25th - 29th El Dorado will be hosting the Long Beach Open. Purchase raffle tickets at the general meeting on Tuesday, July 10th for a chance to win a spot in the Pro-Am. The Pro-Am will be held at El Dorado on Wednesday, July 25th. If you have the chance come out and see how the pros play El Dorado, it’s definitely worth it and the Pros enjoy having the galleries.

For those of you that like good ole head to head competition then signup for the Flights Championship. Matches start in August and run through November. Director Mike Vaughn always does a great job running this event and he’s always looking for new players to mix up the field.

JUNE 2018 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner was Chef Roberto Bingamini’s Italian specialty – salad, linguini, marinara and pesto sauces, sausage and peppers, parmesan, and cookies for desert. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Past President and Life Member Bob Livingstone, filling in for President Cliff Aichele who was out of town attending his daughter’s college graduation. Livy led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 110 members in attendance, including other Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Dennis Tramer, Mike Montgomery, Don Marmion, Terry Fulford, Tom Retterath, and Nick Zamora.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. Livy then introduced General manager Rick Crowder, who is leaving El Do after 7 years to become GM at Coto de Caza. Rick gave a short “farewell” speech and Livy presented him with a gift card as a token of our appreciation for all that he has done for the Men’s Club .We’re going to miss you, Rick.

Livy next had new member Terry Fletcher come up and introduce himself.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Jerry Leininger reminded us to post our own scores this next tournament. Due to problems with the computer at Mile Square during our last Away Tournament, Jerry will post those scores for anyone who was not able to do so.

Director Matt Huntington announced the Golfers of the Month for May. Net winner was Scott Davis with a 63, while Gross winner was Bret Holloway with a 70. Excellent scores, gentlemen. Expect a visit from the Handicap Committee. Winner of the pre-meeting 9-Hole Tournament was Colin Boylan, followed closely by Danny Martin, Ron Lamerton and Terry Fulford.

Director Omar Diaz announced the Special Events for this month’s Partner Blind Draw Tournament. They include skins (including Net Skins for the C Flight), CTP on #17, and Net Par or Better on the first three (Holes #1,2 and 3) and last three (Holes # 16, 17 and 18).

Director Mike Montgomery announced that he is selling raffle tickets to play in the Pro-Am event on Wednesday July 25th at the upcoming Long Beach Open. Mike will also have tickets for sale before the July meeting, after which he will draw the three winning entries. Mike also requested a moment of silence in honor of June Reagan, who recently passed away. Wife of long-time member Dick Reagan, June was an avid supporter of the Club and will certainly be missed.

Entertainment Director Lucero noted that we had 68 players for the Mile Square Away Tournament, with zero no-shows. Good job guys. Lucero also noted that Rich Gilmore had a hole-in-one during the tournament. Awesome, Rich. It was decided to begin a Hole-in-One Fund for Away Tournaments (a little late for Rich). Our next Away Tournament is July 28th at Los Verdes. Contact Lucero if you’re interested.

Director Mike Vaughn announced that the “Count Em All” putting contest ended in a 4 way tie among Colin Boylan, John Suttie, Matt Williams, and Nick Mardesich. Mike is taking sign-ups for the Match Play Flights Championship, which will begin in August. Contact Mike ASAP to get into this event – it’s a lot of fun.

Director Nick Zamora announced the results of the pre-meeting Derby. With 16 participants and the Club provided stipend, the pot was significant. First place went to the team of Nick Zamora/Josh Castlen, followed by Matt Williams/Terry Fletcher and Mike Roddy/Larry Bartley. See Nick to sign up for next month’s derby.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer noted that the Member-Member Tournament in May went very well, with lots of teams cashing. Results are posted. June is the Partner Best Ball Blind Draw Tournament, where “luck of the draw” is as important as your own score. It is also the first round of the Club Championship, which will conclude June 23-24. July is the Red-White-and Blue Tournament, my favorite because I actually have a chance to reach a couple of par 4s in regulation.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: Livy noted that Terry Fulford will be running the Club Championship. Contact Terry with any questions regarding the event. Livy also thanked Matt Williams for helping out in running the Member-Member Tournament. The Board really appreciates all the help we can get.

The $50 drawing winner was Frank Adinolfi. The meeting was adjourned at 7:40.

Hi guys, we are having some great weather. We are officially into the summer so let the good times roll!

The June Putting Contest was “Count them All”. We had (24) players in this event. 2nd Place was a five-way tie with 1-under (17) for $11 each. We also had a five-way tie for the Win with 2-under (15) for $20 each! The winners were Bret Holloway, Colin Boylan, John Suttie, Matt Williams, and Nick Mardesich. The format next month will be shaken up a little so be sure to get to the meeting early and bring your flat stick. Action will start at or about 5:15 and end at NLT 6:45 pm on the south green. Want for as many of you to participate as possible but it is up to you to arrive in time to make your rounds.

Entries for the Flights Championship are being taken. 31 places have been secured. Your $20 entry fee is due to be ASAP. You can place $20 or a $20 check made payable to “Mike Vaughn” in the Men’s Club drawer in the Pro-Shop in an envelope noted Flights entry / Mike Vaughn. You can also pay me on meeting night, Tuesday July 10. All entry money will create the prize pool which will be returned.

Well the year is officially half gone giving everyone just 6 more months to get a GOM!!! I am very pleased to announce that Daniel Kletke is finally the gross winner after months of finishing right behind the winner. He shot a very solid 70 on the last day of the month...'Bout time Daniel!!! Eric Miller had the only other 2 cards for gross and he had two nice rounds of 72 & 71, great playing as always Eric but you lost to a guy that’s been trying for 18 months to win one of these.

Our Net GOM went to a familiar name, Sir Colin Boylan, AKA CLUB CHAMP, A Flight, he fired a solid 73 for a net 66 edging out Larry Bartley with his 67 and the another Club Champ Tom Montgomery with his 68.

Hope to see everyone on the 10th and hope you guys get out to participate in the 9 hole tourney!!!

Another one in the books as the June Blind Draw went well and I hope everyone enjoyed it. I am sure Jerry Hodge did as he shot 97 and drew Noah Busch who shot 74. Result they win Gross with a, you guessed it, 74 in the 3rd flight. As I keep telling you guys you can play like crap and still come out smelling like a rose. Even I was close as I shot 105 and my partner Mr. Fuchs shot 76. Damn, missed winning the gross by 2 shots! Check out the website to see all the winners and pairings, especially all you guys that played well and you can see who “dragged you down”.

Coming up July 14th is our Red-White-Blue Tournament. I like this one as I can maybe hit half the greens in reg on the Red Tee holes. Looks like we will have a full field for this one as we are right now at 208 golfers. For all you new members, this tournament we play 6 holes from RED TEES & COUNT 4 BALLS – 6 HOLES FROM THE WHITE TEES & COUNT 3 BALLS – 6 HOLES FROM THE BLUE TEES & COUNT 2 BALLS. Depending how I set this up, there may be a couple of holes from the Black Tees. Still have a couple of openings so send me an email if you would like to play or have any questions. I will try to have the times up the Monday before the meeting.

Anybody who put TBA on their signup sheet I need to know that player by Monday the 9th or it will go up on the website as being available.

At the July meeting I will be taking signups for the Saturday August 18th - 3 Best Ball Tournament.

Hello fellow golfers and weekend buddies

It's July and that means it's Los Verdes time, and you guys know this one fills out quick, to assure you a spot you must sign up ASAP, unfortunately I will not be attending the general meeting, but my good buddy Nick Zamora will be taking signups, as it is, right now there is only few group spots left.
I know on the last news letter the price was going to be $85 but after talking to a few guys we are going to up it up $5 more, so now it will be $80 for green fees and price fund, plus $10 for skins, total of $90 to play if you want to be in the skins.

As I mention on the June general meeting, we are going to start a Hole in One insurance fund, so in the future you are not stuck with the bar bill. This fund is only for the away trips, it has nothing to do with then home tournaments, the price will be $10 per person, we are starting to collect at Los Verdes, you don't have to be in if you don't want to, it's going to work the same way as the prize fund in the home tournaments.

Also as we mention in the June general meeting the away trip to San Juan Hills has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

I spend a lot of time both in person and written communication asking you to "Post All Your Scores" It is the only way the Handicap System will work effectively.
Let's see when you are NOT TO POST A SCORE !
1.) DO NOT POST IF YOU PLAY ALONE.
2) WHEN YOU USE NON CONFORMING EQUIPMENT; CLUBS, BALLS OR TEES
3) WHEN TWO BALLS ARE PLAYED THROUGHOUT THE ROUND (that is practice)
4) NOT PLAYING YOUR OWN BALL (scrambles or alternate shot)
5) THERE IS NOT BOTH A COURSE AND SLOPE RATING.

Here are some of the times when you should post your score:
1. When you play at least 13 holes but not all 18 - Give your self Net par for the holes you did not complete. Net par is par for the hole + any handicap strokes you receive.
2. Scores in all types of format - Stroke or Match play
3. Scores made under "Preferred Lies" or Winter Rules - Pick and Lick, etc.
4. Bad Round - This probably gets the most abuse as to posting. Make sure you post ALL acceptable scores. Leaving out a "non - counter" is not an excuse to not post.
5. Mulligans are not allowed under the rules of golf - Record Net Par for the hole where you used a mulligan.

The Long Beach Golf Festival wrapped up at the end of July, culminating with the Long Beach Open, and with the final two rounds hosted by El Dorado. Jered Stone from Corral De Tierra, CA won by 3 shots with a 23 under par 265. It’s always fun to see what the Pros can do on our course. Thanks again to Superintendent Marc Lilleberg he had the course in great shape. That’s perfect for the Men’s Club with the Flights Championship matches, Senior Club Championship, and the 3-Best Ball monthly tournament that are all coming up in August.

The July Red, White and Blue was an ego booster with lots low scores and some sizable skins payouts. Unfortunately, it was disappointing to see so many no-shows on tournament day. Please guys let’s do Dennis Tramer a favor, when signing up for monthly tournaments: check your calendars, check with your teammates and check to make sure your groups are correct when the tee times are posted on the website. If corrections need to be made, let Dennis know so he can make the necessary changes.

I’ll be looking forward to seeing all of you at the course. Remember to keep cool, stay hydrated and apply plenty of sunscreen! It’s been a cooker this summer.

JULY 2018 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner was basic comfort food: meat loaf, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, rolls, salad and cookies for desert.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 115 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Dennis Tramer, Mike Montgomery, Terry Fulford, Tom Conlisk, Rich Dennison, Nick Zamora and Life Member Bob Livingstone.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. New member Mike Burke introduced himself to the group and was given the welcome tour by Past President Zamora.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Jerry Leininger announced that the winner of the Most Improved Golfer for the second quarter is Greg Colazas. Congratulations Greg. Jerry also informed us that since there is not an appropriate rating for the Red-White-Blue format that we will be playing this next weekend, no scores will be posted (and therefore no rounds will be eligible for GOM consideration).

Net winner was Colin Boylan with a 66, while Gross winner was Dan Kletke with a 70. Winner of the pre-meeting 9-Hole Tournament was Wayne Brown, followed closely by Terry Fulford and Dave Green.

The pre-meeting Derby was won by Colin Boylan, with Tom Montgomery (the good Montgomery) finishing second and Larry Bartley third. Nick’s looking for a better turnout next month, as only 7 guys signed up for this month’s Derby.

Director Terry Fulford announced that he will be running the Senior Club Championship on August 25 & 26 for those members 50 and older. There will be a Championship Flight and two Net Flights. You need to contact Terry no later than the August General Meeting (August 14) to sign up.

President Cliff Aichele congratulated members Matt Mendenhall, Kevin Bartley and Mark Ziegenhagen for making the cut in the Men’s Long Beach City Championship. Way to go guys. Cliff also discussed the results of the Club Championship. Championship Flight winner (and overall Club Champion) is Dave Rubin, while the A Flight winner is Colin Boylan and the B Flight winner is Tom Montgomery. Congratulations gentlemen. Cliff also noted that several players were disqualified for failure to fill out their scorecards properly. Remember – it’s each player’s responsibility to turn in an accurate and completed card.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer reminded us of the format for the Red-White-Blue Tournament. We’ll count 4 scores on the Red holes, 3 scores on the White holes, and 2 scores on the Blue holes. Dennis is taking sign-ups for the August “Three Best Ball” Tournament after the meeting.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: There was no New Business.

The $50 drawing winner was Dennis Tramer. Dennis can no longer claim that he hasn’t won in the 35 years that he’s been a member. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45.

Hi guys, hope you are enjoying the warmer than normal temperatures and humidity. Be thankful you don’t live somewhere where they are above 90 degrees and 90 percent.

The July Putting Contest was “Aces Only”. We had (23) players in this event. There was a five-way tie for the Win with 4-Aces for $35 each! The winners were Matt Williams, Monty Bisson, Brian Dauk, Steve Cook and Nick Mardesich. The format next month is yet TBD. Be sure to get to the meeting early and bring your putter. Action will start at or about 5:15 and end at NLT 6:45 pm on the south green. It is great to see so many of you participate. As noted before I hate denying anyone a chance due to time until meeting so it is up to you to arrive early enough to make your rounds.

The Flights Championships are underway. We have five (5) full Brackets, 80 players. I have Flights tee times reserved through Championship Saturday. Players are kept updated through group emails. This is a great tournament as it is all up to you playing heads up against your opponent.

Looks like the BOD made the right call on not posting the R-W-B Tournament. Many players would have gotten hurt if they posted as out of 197 golfers we had 104 shoot net 71 better and 38 (20%) shoot net 68 or better. You can thank us later. I will announce all the “BAGGERS” who knew they didn’t have to post so they lit it up. First off since “Gonzo” ended up in the Blind Draw Flight, that opened the way for the formal perennial Gross winners Omar Diaz, Matt Huntington, Dave Rubin, Ryan Boyker & Wally Gordon to win the “A” Gross with a nice 10 under par 206.

The net winners at a phenomenal 33 under 183 were Roger Marmion, Tyler Marmion, Chris Mcmonigle, Shaun Steenwyck & Mike Burke. Nice shooting Kids! In the “B” Gross winners were Shaun Ferguson, Monty Bisson, Brian Dauk, Jim Zehmer & Geno Milner with a pretty decent 5 over 221. The net perennial winners winning a cardoff with a 31 under 185 were Mike Vaughn, Don Didier, Robert Creighton, Ken Cheoung & Matt Wilson. In the CHOP Flight ( C ) the winners of Gross were the biggest surprise of the tournament. This proves anyone can win as it was the team of Jerry Leininger, Corey Smith, Jay Fleming, George Lanese & Scott Chamberlain with a respectable 18 over par 234. It must have because of the player I added to their group, Scott Chamberlain. I believe they owe me a cut out of their winnings! Winners of the Net were Jeff Degraaff, Henry Degraaff, Danny Martin, Eric Lishka & Scott Dietschak with a nice 32 under 184. I would give you their Team Handicap but I can’t count that high.

Last but not least we had our first Blind Draw Flight, so I guess my goal of not having one this year is kaput. Winners were Colin Boylan, Bret Hudzietz, Mark Trentacosta & John Rogers with the best score in the tournament a 37 under 179. The second place team had the 2nd best score in the Tournament 182. This is why we have a Blind Draw Flight. This one was frustrating as I had it filled the morning of the tournament. ANYONE WHO IS NOT GOING TO MAKE IT MUST TELL ME BY 7:00 THE NIGHT BEFORE THE EVENT OR THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES! As always you can check all the scores on the website.

There are no signups at the August meeting as the September 15 & 16 is a mail in. Fill out the slip and put in an envelope, I will have them at the meeting – on the table in the Pro Shop – and they will be on the website. Cost for this Tournament is $120. For ALL you new members and all the old ones (that means you Ruben Gonzales) here is how this is figured as it is a special format. On Saturday we use the “Tramer Handicapping System” which I devised many years ago and it seems to work pretty well. This day we play from the Blue Tees and use your Blue Index. THIS IS A NON POSTABLE ROUND. The front 9 is a 2 Man Scramble. You must use each players drives 4 times. Handicaps are figured on this 9 like this – You take ½ the Handicap of the lowest Player, then for player 2 you add strokes as based on the differential in Hcp’s. Differential 0-3=0 4-6=.5 7-9=1 10-12=1.5 13-15=2 16-18=2.5 19-21=3 22-24=3.5 25 & Above=4. EXAMPLE: Player 1 is a 9 HCP – PLAYER 2 IS A 20 HCP. Your HCP for the front is a 6.

The Back 9 is a Crossover where you hit alternate shots until the ball is holed. Simple Math as for this 9 you add your HCP’S together and divide by 4. HCP for this 9 would be 7.25. HCP total for the day—13.25

Straightforward on Sunday as we play a Better Ball on the front & Count Em All on the back. This day we play from the White Tees and at 90% of your Current or Adjusted Handicap. This is a Postable round-Non Tournament. There are no restrictions to play in this Tournament. Any Questions give me a call.

For the ones that got to play it was a good day to play, with a little wind in the afternoon. Last month I reviewed the rounds that you should NOT post your scores. One of those times is when the golf course does not have a SCGA recognized Slope or Rating, remember?

Let me give you a very recent reason why this is the case for Not Posting.

In our last months tournament, The Red, White, and Blue the golf course was not officially rated based on the hole distance and stroke allocation. Let me share with you some of the LOW SCORES that were turned in.

Out of 198 players here is the recap:
Low Net ( -12 ) / net 60
Number of players shooting Net 72 or better = 129 (65%)

A closer breakdown is:
- Number of scores Net 72 or better = 76 (38%)
- Number of scores Net 69 or better = 16 (8%)
- Number of scores Net 68 or better = 10 (5%)
- Number of scores Net 66 or better = 17 (9%)

I hope you now can see what would have happened to the handicaps / Index of the 65% of players who shot net par or better.

The Board of Directors spent a lot of time and discussion on should we post the tournament or not. I am sure you will agree that it was a wise decision NOT TO POST our July Red, White, and Blue based on the number or exceptional low scores recorded.

Before you know it summer is going to be over and will have to endure temps in the mid-70s! Oh the humanity! The Flights matches are well under way. Congratulations to those of you who have advanced to the next round and for the rest of us, like me, let’s keep our heads held high and get after it again next year.

Thanks to Terry Fulford for putting together a great Senior Club Championship. Jim Fuchs won the scratch Flight, George Lanese won the A-Flight and Tom Montgomery walked away with the B-Flight. As always a big thank you to Livy for doing the score boards.

Our election for the 2019 Board of Directors is coming up at the Annual meeting in November. Nominations will be taken at the September General Meeting. If you are interested in becoming a Director, contact any of the current BOD members and we will point you in the right direction. The BOD always welcomes member involvement. It’s a great way to keep the club fresh and current.

AUGUST 2018 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner was (tell me if you’ve heard this before) cheese enchiladas, beef fajitas, beans, rice, tortillas, salad and cookies for desert. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 75 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Mr. Tom Conlisk, Jerry Leininger, Dennis Tramer, Mike Montgomery, Terry Fulford, Don Marmion, Nick Zamora and Life Member Bob Livingstone.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. There were no new members present.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Jerry Leininger announced that the Two Man teams of Corey Henn/Josh Castlen and Steve Giroux/Joey Schilling are playing in the SCGA Four Ball Competition. Good luck to these guys – do ElDo proud boys. Jerry also announced that we would be posting our own scores this next tournament. (Note: this turned out not to be the case, as the computer in the Pro Shop was down – again.)

Director Matt Huntington announced the Golfers of the Month for July. With only 4 cards turned in, Matt’s job was ridiculously easy. Net winner was Terry Fulford with a sparkling 66, while Gross winner was Eric Miller with a 72. Winner of the pre-meeting 9-Hole Tournament was Frank Molloy, followed closely by Jim Ridenour and Tom Montgomery.

Director Omar Diaz announced the Special Events for this month’s Three Best Balls Tournament. They include skins (NOT including Net Skins for the C Flight), Net Par or better on the middle 6 (Holes #7-12), and in the circle (A and B Flights)/on the green (C Flight) on the second shot on #16. If anyone has suggestions for future Special Events, feel free to contact Omar – he’s open to all new ideas.

Director Lucero announced the results from the Los Verdes Away Tournament. He apologized for some confusion at the tournament, primarily due to several last minute no-shows. The next Away Tournament is October 27 at Lakewood (make your travel arrangements early). Because the San Juan Hills Away tournament was cancelled, Lucero is looking into scheduling a replacement – maybe a 4 club event at Heartwell. Finally some greens I can reach in regulation!

Director Nick Zamora announced the results of the pre-meeting Derby. There was a good turnout with 7 two-man teams participating. First place went to the team of Craig McDonald/Larry Bartley, followed by Scott Davis/Warren Wysong and then Steve Cook/Nick Zamora. Nick also noted that Paul Standish is in the hospital and could really use everyone’s prayers and good wishes.

Director Mike Vaughn announced the results of the pre-meeting putting contest. With 23 participants, Mike had his hands full. First place went to Dave Rubin, with Matt Mendenhall and Walter Gordon tied for second, and Matt Williams, Mike Wilson and Tim Mincarelli tied for third. Mike noted that approximately 40% of the first round matches of the Flights Match Play Championship have been played. Mike then engaged in a “discussion” with Nick regarding the Putting Contest versus the Derby, with Mike noting that “the only f***ing derby I care about is the Kentucky Derby.”

Director Terry Fulford announced that he will be running the Senior Club Championship on August 25 & 26 for those members 50 and older. There will be a Championship Flight and two Net Flights. Contact Terry ASAP if you’re interested.

President Cliff Aichele noted that there were several no-shows at the July Tournament. This is not good, as it makes the already difficult job of Tournament Chairman even tougher and costs us money – green fees that we need to pay the course. Make sure you contact Dennis not later than Thursday night if you can’t make it. And team captains need to let everyone on your team know that they’re playing and what time they’re playing.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer discussed results of the July Red-White-Blue Tournament, noting that most everyone enjoyed the different layout that this event provides. August is a Three Best Ball tournament, and September is the Partner Tournament (mail-in registration) played to you current index (not 6 month LI).

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: We have new Tee Markers. They’re smaller than the old ones, so pay attention.

The $50 drawing winner was Samuel Krishna. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45.

This cooler weather certainly is nice.

The south putting green had been closed for a couple of weeks in early August but Marc Lilleberg approved us to use it for the Putting contest. The green had received no grooming care during this period. In light of this made the event a short “Aces Only” game. Once again we had (23) players. There was a single winner with (5) Aces, Dave Rubin for $70. 2nd place was a tie with (4) Aces between Walter Gorgon and Matt Mendenhall for $30 each. 3rd place was a tie with (3) Aces between Matt Williams, Mike Wilson and Tim Mincarelli for $10 each. The format next month is yet TBD. Be sure to get to the meeting early and bring your putter. Action will start at or about 5:15 and end absolutely NLT 6:45 pm on the south green. It is great to see so many of you participate. As noted before I hate denying anyone a chance due not much time until the meeting so it is up to you to arrive early enough to make your rounds.

The Flights Championships are underway. Round 1 is all but wrapped up. As noted in July we have five (5) full Brackets that will be down to 40 players. Reserved Saturday and Sunday Flights tee times are set for the Flights through Championship Saturday. Players are kept updated through group emails. This is a great tournament as it is all up to you playing heads up against your opponent. The early in the month you play your match the easier it is to manage.

The August 3 Best Ball was a fun day as we only had to use me twice and I still cashed. Shows you the importance of picking good partners. Thank You Matt Bennett and Kevin Day! Looks like Omar and his group are back on a roll as the took the “A” Gross with a sweet 14 under 202. Of course Ryder Epson making about 7 birdies helped. Winners of the “A” Net is no surprise as they were the only “Blind Draw” Team in the tournament. No way I thought they would even cash after I saw the Blind Draw was “The Prez” Cliffy. They shot a 17 under 189. In the “B’ it looks like Seabass is back on track as him, Mehlbrech, Plumridge, Walker & Jondle shot that same score of 17 under 189 to win by 3 shots. Last but not least the Chop “C” Flight.

First of all I want to give the Gross winners some “props” as they did it with Mike Vaughn. I guess miracles do happen in golf! Your net winners come as no surprise as shooting a 16 under 190 and winning by 4 was Lucero and merry group of baggers Ramsey, Tanner, Lamerton & Nunez. As always all the results are posted on the website.

Coming up September 15 & 16 is a mail in sign up. Fill out the slip and put in an envelope along with the entry fee, I will have them at the meeting – on the table in the Pro Shop – and they will be on the website. Just a note, the longer you wait to enter your chances dwindle of getting the time you prefer. Cost for this Tournament is $120.

For ALL you new members and all the old ones (that means you Ruben Gonzales) here is how this is figured as it is a special format. On Saturday we use the “Tramer Handicapping System” which I devised many years ago and it seems to work pretty well. This day we play from the Blue Tees and use your Blue Index. THIS IS A NON POSTABLE ROUND. The front 9 is a 2 Man Scramble. You must use each players drives 4 times. Handicaps are figured on this 9 like this – You take ½ the Handicap of the lowest Player, then for player 2 you add strokes as based on the differential in Hcp’s. Differential 0-3=0 4-6=.5 7-9=1 10-12=1.5 13-15=2 16-18=2.5 19-21=3 22-24=3.5 25 & Above=4. EXAMBLE: Player 1 is a 9 HCP – PLAYER 2 IS A 20 HCP. Your HCP for the front is a 6. The Back 9 is a Crossover where you hit alternate shots until the ball is holed. Simple Math as for this 9 you add your HCP’S together and divide by 4. HCP for this 9 would be 7.25. HCP total for the day—13.25.

Straightforward on Sunday as we play a Best Ball on the front & Count Em All on the back. This day we play from the White Tees and at 90% of your Current or Adjusted Handicap. This is a Postable round-Non Tournament. There are no restrictions to play in this Tournament. Any Questions give me a call.

I will be taking signups at the September meeting for the October 13th “DREADED ORANGE BALL” Tournament. The format for this is you use the Orange Ball + 2 other scores for each hole. Remember when you sign up to put your team in the order you want for the Orange Ball. So players 1-3 get it 4 times and players 4 & 5 get it 3 times. You have until meeting night in October to make any changes. If I receive an email of your team I will use the order you send it. If I get a team in “bits & pieces” I will make the order for you. Each team will receive 3 Orange Balls and you MUST turn one in when you finish the round or you are DISQUALIFIED. This does happen as one year our team had all 3 going to 18 and watched LIEBECK proceed to hit all 3 in the lake. RESULT DQ. This is a fun tournament so come on out and watch your buddies “A*****e” pucker when he gets that Orange nightmare. As always any questions give me a call.

I’m going to start this month off, by reminding everyone that the very popular December Christmas Tournament requires that you have played in three events in the previous 12 months to enter. There are only three events left this year to get that done, they are the October Orange Ball, Lakewood away and the November Superintendents Revenge. Don’t be left out, we buy the course for the whole day. This tournament is a don’t miss event.

The September Partner Partner was a blast thanks to Dennis, I know how much work these two day events are to put on. The fun culminated with a round of drinks for all, complements of Dave Rubin who had a Hole-In-One on #9. Congratulations Dave and thanks for the cocktail.

For those of you interested in becoming a director, the November elections are coming up, and nominations will be taken from the floor during the October general meeting.

SEPTEMBER 2018 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner was actually not Mexican but included bacon wrapped meat loaf (honest!), mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, rolls, salad and cookies for desert. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 110 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Richard Scoville, Jerry Leininger, Dennis Tramer, Mike Montgomery, Terry Fulford, Don Marmion, Tom Retterath, and Life Member Bob Livingstone.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. New members Josh Dubon, Michael Petersen and Tom Nasuti introduced themselves and were given the new member tour by Past President Terry Fulford. President Aichele noted that today was the 17th anniversary of the World Trade Center attack, an event none of us will ever forget. Cliff also noted that long-time member Paul Standish recently had a heart transplant and was recovering nicely. Cliff then turned the microphone over to new General Manager Sung Ahn and new Head Pro Joe Grohman, who both gave a brief self-introduction, including a summary of previous experience. Welcome to ElDo, gentlemen.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Jerry Leininger noted that the new Rules of Golf will be effective 1/1/2019 and SCGA would soon be holding seminars discussing them. Jerry then gave a thorough explanation of the club adopted “3 Net Wins” handicap penalty rule and the “Letter” handicap penalty rule. If you have any questions regarding these rules, see Jerry.

Director Bob Livingstone noted that one new local rule recently adopted by the Executive board can be summarized as follows: “If the ball accidentally moves on the green, there is no penalty.” Livy also noted that long time member Jerry Jaeke recently passed away after a long illness. Livy also discussed the on-going expansion of the greens to increase the puttable areas (and hopefully speed up play).

Director Matt Huntington announced the Golfers of the Month for August. Net winner was Tom Montgomery with an amazing 64, while Gross winner was Ryder Epson with a sparkling 68. Winner of the pre-meeting 9-Hole Tournament was Dan Pearson with a Net 35, followed closely by Tom (I’m on a roll) Montgomery, Ron Lamerton and Lucero.

Director Omar Diaz announced the Special Events for this month’s Partner/Partner Tournament. Saturday’s events are CTP on #3 and 17, and in the circle/on the green on #9 and 12. Sundays events will be skins (net for the C Flight), North of Willow, and Up Livy’s Creek (net par or better on six water holes). Omar noted the Team Play try-outs will start in late October – check the website for updates.

Director Lucero reminded us that the next Away tournament is October 27 at Lakewood. Because the San Juan Hills Away tournament was cancelled, Lucero is continuing to look into scheduling a replacement – maybe a 4 club event at Heartwell.

Director Mike Montgomery emphasized the importance of being on the tee and ready to go at your appointed starting time. Play Ready Golf! Mike also announced the slate of Board selected candidates for erection for next year. They include Aichele, Tramer, Kuehn, Livingstone, Vaughn and Huntington for the same offices currently held. Nominations will be taken from the floor at the October meeting.

Third place went to Brett Holloway. Mike gave us a brief update on the Flights Championship matches. He also noted that John Wong suffered a broken rib (Chasing a bank robber? Rescuing a kidnap victim? Tripping on the stairs?) and wouldn’t be golfing for a while.

Director Terry Fulford announced the results of the Senior Club Championship. Gross winner was Jim Fuchs (not his first rodeo), with A Flight honors going to George Lanese and B Flight honors to Tom Montgomery. Good job fellow old timers.

The PARTNER-PARTNER went extremely well as every group but one, I don’t have to tell you who it was, finished within 14 minutes on 18 and NO Penalties were handed out as that group finished 31 minutes behind but beat their allotted time by 1 minute. Good for them but that is 16 minutes we don’t get back. Great Job Gentlemen!!

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEKEND WAS DAVE RUBIN’S ACE ON #9 SUNDAY. CONGRATULATIONS DAVE!!

As for your winners, in the “A” Flight winning Gross on a card off at 173 was the Team of Matt McGwire & Joe Lederer over the Father – Son team of Boyker & Boyker. Winning the “A” Flight net at 164.75 was Dave (ACE) Rubin & Terry Cormack. In the “B” Flight, the Pups were howling as the Team of Roger & Tyler Marmion won by 2.25 shots with a nice 165.25. I guess Daddy “Yellow Dog” Marmion does have some Golf genes floating around in there somewhere. Wait a minute I have played golf with him for 30 years, I take that back they must have got them from Linda.

Last but not least the is the “C” Flight (commonly called the Chop Flight) and this could be the biggest upset of the year as it was another Family Affair. The winners at 161.75 was the Team of Henry & Jeff Degraaff. As always all the results are on the website.

Coming up on the October 13th is the “Dreaded Orange Ball” Tournament. Format is you have to count the Orange Ball on that hole + 2 others. The Orange Ball is designated by were you are on the scorecard. You have until meeting night to give me your lineup or I will do it for you. NO EXCEPTIONS!! We have a very large field for this tournament so it is imperative everyone keep up THROUGH THE WHOLE COURSE, NOT JUST THE LAST 4 HOLES. If you are out of the hole please pick up and take what score you would have likely made. CLIFFY will be very upset if he finishes in the Dark. WE WILL BE PLAYING THE WHITE TEES as we need to play quickly. Remember, you must turn in 1 Orange Ball with your scorecard or you are disqualified. You will receive 3 balls when you get your scorecard.

I will be taking signups at the October meeting for the November 17th “SUPERINTENDENT’S REVENGE” Tournament. The format for this is 3 Best Balls. This is a “FUN” day and it gives you an opportunity to play a different golf course. I suggest you treat Mr. Lilleberg nicely so he takes it easy on us. Be ready for some long holes, different holes, and of course Brutal pin placements. The week prior to the tournament I will go out with Mark , and maybe Livy, to try and keep him under control when we set up the course. Daylight saving will be gone and days are shorter so please come to the meeting to sign up as I will probably only have room for 175 players and we usually get around 200. This Tournament the yardage will be close to Blue Tees.

Let's talk about our last away tournament of the year which is at Lakewood, October 27th. The first tee time is at 9am and we will be playing reverse waltz 3 2 1 and will be teeing off the white tees as requested by the old people (Dennis and company). The green fees are $80 plus $10 for skins for a total of $90. We would like to have the players list confirmed a week before the tournament.

And because this is the last away trip of the year make sure you check your standing on the Little Brown Jug which is posted at El Dorado website.

Our 2018 Q3 Most improved Golfer is DAVID LEE. David started July as an 16.8 and finished September as an 11.8, an improvement factor of 1.21.

Congratulations David and see Bob Livingstone at the next meeting to collect $50.00.

Our Q4 and Most Improved of the Year will be announced the first week of January 2019.

In case you missed the September general meeting I have been told by several members they did not know that they have been placed on an adjusted index list. There are 2 different lists the Handicap Committee uses to review and adjust handicaps; 3 times net winners list, and the "Letter." The 3 times net winners list is a revolving 12 month list where players from the winning Net team in a EDMC event are given a win or X. Three wins in the revolving 12 month list and you are on that list and play to your Low Index until your 3 wins go away. You do not have to be on the same team each event but as long as your team win net you get an X.

Winners of the Gross flight who's team score is the low net gets credit for the Net win. Our intent here is to identify repeat winners of our monthly events and adjust their handicaps accordingly.

The "Letter" is a letter you receive in the mail from the Handicap committee where we address handicaps that reflect performances above and beyond the acceptable range per the USGA Handicap Guidelines . This performance may include, but not limited to repeat lower than normal scores (Net Par or better), improving faster than the Handicap system allows, or any other exceptional performance as related to Handicaps.

The 3 times net and "Letters" are reviewed monthly and adjustments made as necessary. You do have the right to appeal a "Letter" by notification to any Handicap Committee member.

NOTE: The Club provides a $400 annaul stipend to each member of the Board and to the Webmaster for their service to the Club. While some Board members choose to take their stipend, most go on a weekend golf trip and invite other members of the Club in hopes of recruiting new Board members. If you have any questions regarding the income or expenses related to this trip, please feel free to contact me.

Halloween has come and gone, daylight saving time ends on the 4th, and the Holiday season is coming like a freight train. I’m sure I won’t be ready and I’ll wait until the last minute to get everything done, like a lot of you.

October’s Orange Ball tournament is one of my favorites. It was beautiful day even though I hate that &%@*#$% nasty, orange ball. When it was my turn to play the orange ball, it made a fool out of me just like it does every year. Hate is a strong word, but let’s just say orange is NOT my favorite color.

The General Meeting is coming up Tuesday, November 13th. It’s also our Annual Meeting and elections will be held for Board of Directors positions. We have a handful of guys running for spots on the board and that’s really great! Ballots will be distributed to all members in attendance. The election committee will tally the votes with help from a member chosen by the committee, from those present. Once all ballots have been counted, the results will be announced. “Rock The Vote” attend the meeting, witness the “peaceful transition of power.”

OCTOBER 2018 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner was actually not Mexican: okay, that’s a lie. It was Mexican – chicken fajitas, rice, beans, tortillas, chips salsa, salad and cookies for desert.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Past President Terry Fulford who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 125 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Richard Scoville, Jerry Leininger, Dennis Tramer, Mike Montgomery, Terry Fulford, Don Marmion, Tom Conlisk, Dudley Dennison, Nick Zamora, and Life Member Bob Livingstone.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. New members Mike Miller and (returning) member Jeff Rosenthal introduced themselves and were given the new member tour. Terry Fulford noted that long-time member Paul Standish recently had a heart transplant and was recovering nicely.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Jerry Leininger reminded us that the new Rules of Golf will be effective 1/1/2019 and SCGA would soon be holding seminars discussing them. Jerry announced the Most Improved Golfer Award for the third quarter went to David Lee. Nice job David. Jerry also noted that we need to post our own scores for this weekend’s tournament.

Director Matt Huntington announced the Golfers of the Month for September. Gross Winner was Omar Diaz with a nice 72. While there were two cards turned in for Net, neither one was filled out correctly so there was no Net winner. Which once again proves that the average Club IQ is a little less than room temperature. Winner of the last of the year pre-meeting 9-Hole Tournament was Brad Wilcox followed closely by Greg Ramsey and Lucero.

Director Omar Diaz announced the Special Events for this month’s Orange Ball Tournament. We’ll have regular skins, Orange Ball skins, and Net Par or better on Holes 11-15.Omar noted the Team Play try-outs will start in late October – check the website for updates. Omar introduced Justin Vanderbroek and Mel Collins as Co-captains of the Thursday Team.

Director Lucero reminded us that the next Away tournament is October 27 at Lakewood. It will be a Reverse Waltz from the white tees. Cost is $90.

Director Mike Vaughn announced the results of the final pre-meeting putting contest of the year. Finishing tied for first were Todd ( Corey’s the chubby guy) Thiele and Greg (Chief Morning Wood) Englant. Mike also filled us in on the status of the Match Play Flights Championship.

Director Terry Fulford gave out the awards for the Senior Club Championship, the results of which were announced last month. Congratulations again to Jim Fuchs, a 4 time winner of overall Senior Club Champion. Terry noted that there will be a play-off to determine who represents ElDo at the SCGA Net Championship.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer discussed results of the Partner/Partner Tournament, and then discussed appropriate procedures (hitting order, scoring, etc.) for the Orange Ball Tournament. He reminded everyone that you had to have at least one orange ball to turn in at the end of the round. Dennis noted that the Superintendent’s Revenge for the November Tournament is always quite a challenge. He also noted the sign-ups for the December Shotgun will be coming up soon.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: Nick Zamora identified the Board nominated slate of officers for 2019. They include Aichele (President), Tramer (Vice President), Kuehn (Secretary), Livingstone (Treasurer),and Vaughn and Huntington (Directors). Nick then took nominations from the floor. Three members running for Director include Don Didier, Matt Williams, and Mike Misener. Voting will take place at the November meeting.


The $50 drawing winner was Jim McDavid. The meeting was adjourned at 8:00.

Well it is November already. Flights went well and the Championship matches were played Saturday November 3. These matches were as follows; President’s: Greg Andersen Vs. Scott Davis, Vice President’s: Dave McNaney Vs. Keith Pacheco, Secretary’s: Sebastian Sturdevant Vs. Kenneth Cheong, Treasurer’s; Wes McCollum Vs. Mark Schmillen and Director’s: Dennis Smith Vs. Lloyd Lee. Our 2018 Flights Champions are Greg Anderson (2&1), Dave McNaney (3&2), Sebastian Sturdevant (1-Up, 20 holes), Mark Schmillen (4&3) and Dennis Smith (3&2). Prizes for the Flights will be presented at the December meeting.

The October Putting contest was the last one for this year. It was an “Aces Only”. There was a 5-way tie with 3 Aces for 2nd place between Steve Cook, Matt Williams, Craig McDonald, Jeff DeGraaff and Scott Davis taking 10 skins each. Todd Thiele and Greg Englant rolled in 4 Aces to split 1st place honors taking 55 each. Get ready for next year when Daylight Saving Time comes into effect. The Putting tournament is always fun.

In 2019 we will be going to Skylinks for the Quad Club. I will be starting to put this team together the first part of next year.

Looking forward to overseeing the Quad Club, Flights Tournament, and Putting contest again in 2019. See you all at the meeting.

After a complete disaster for Golfer of the Month cards submitted in September, we had an excellent turnout for October. 2 people could have won in September but filled the card out wrong. Although I only checked the top 3 this month they were all filled out correctly. Although new guy Josh Dubon had his current index on the card and not his 6 month LI, that does not disqualify him as I always check those anyway. That being said he went from the net 63 he thought he had to a net 65, and Mr. Sand Bagger (he sometimes goes by his legal name...Lloyd Lee) shot a 64. Lloyd's card was in the right side box and was the last one I collected because that's the wrong side Lloyd, but that's not a DQ either. Brad Wilcox also had an impressive net 65 as well. Scott Paul won gross with a solid 69, beating Dave "Ace 9" Rubin by 3. 2 more months boys, lets get those cards in correctly.

The Orange Ball took it’s toll on a lot of players, myself included, but I think everyone enjoyed the day even though you guys PLAYED SLOW! Gentlemen, we need to do a better job of playing faster as our last 2 groups finished in the dark. We had 1 disqualification for losing all their Orange Balls, I won’t mention any names but he takes your Special Event signups.

Leading the way and winning “A” Gross with a nice 10 under 206 was the team of Gonzo-J. Lederer-S. Nimkhum-M. Petersen-S. Sterry. “A” net winners at a 27 under 189 was B. Dauk-J. Zehmer-Mike Wilson-M. Bisson- and the infamous Blind Draw. In the “B” winning the Gross at a 8 over 224 was M. Mendenhall-M. Williams-J. Dubon-C. McDonald- and once again the infamous Blind Draw. “B” Net winners were D. Kirksey-G. Devries-S. Lindman-B. Ball-and the more infamous T. Braswell. Last but not least the “C” Gross at 29 over 247 was M. Montgomery-F. Followell-D. Marmion-D. Lee- D. Hasselman. “C” Net at 20 under 196 was C. Thomason-P. Zamarripa-D. Martin-J. Degraaff-H. Degraaff. WOW, Those Degraaff brothers are on a roll. Take Note Jerry!! As always all the results are on the website.

Coming up on November 17th is the “SUPERINTENDENT’S REVENGE” Tournament. The format for this is 3 Best Balls. This is a “FUN” day and it gives you an opportunity to play a different golf course. I suggest you treat Mr. Lilleberg nicely so he takes it easy on us. Be ready for some long holes, different holes, and of course Brutal pin placements. The week prior to the tournament I will go out with Mark , and maybe Livy, to try and keep him under control when we set up the course. I expect it to be playing around 6500 yards so we will play to the “Blue” Slope. Make sure you double check your scorecard as yardage and handicaps will change.

Daylight saving will be gone and days are shorter so please PLAY FAST and if you are out of the hole PICK UP! I have the last time at 11:30 and do not want to finish in the DARK (around 4:55). Mr. Moraitis will be out marshaling in the afternoon and he will have the authority to hand out 2 stroke penalties if you do not pick it up when he warns you. Any cancellations please let me know as I have 4 people on the Standby list.

Check out the website for the Sign Up slip for our “BIGGIE” of the year on December 15th the “Christmas Tournament”. Cost is $75 to walk & $90 to ride. The format is 2 Best Balls out of the threesome and as you know we play sixsomes that day. It is a Shotgun Start at 7:30. You have until meeting night December 11th to sign up.

Hopefully all of you had a bountiful Thanksgiving feast, taking time to enjoy family and friends. I would like to thank everyone that participated in the election held during our Annual Meeting, November 13th. We now have the 2019 Board of Directors, that I’m confident will do an outstanding job, maintaining El Dorado Men’s Golf Club as one of the premier golf clubs in Southern California.

December is here. If you haven’t already signed up for the Christmas Tournament, give Dennis a break and do so soon. You’re going to want to save the date of Tuesday, December 11th to attend the General Meeting. Special Events Director, Omar Diaz, is putting together our “Christmas Raffle Extravaganza” with plenty of prizes to go around! This meeting is one of our most popular by far, so don’t miss out on all the fun.

I would like to congratulate EDMGC Life Member, Bob Livingstone, on his retirement from Long Beach Parks and Recreation. Bob has spent a lifetime involved with the City of Long Beach and he has been an incredible asset to the game of golf in our city and beyond. Even in his retirement, I think Bob will be keeping a keen eye on our Long Beach golf courses, never letting them stray afar before voicing his concerns. Have a great long, long, long weekend Livy!

NOVEMBER 2018 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner was meat loaf, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad and cookies for desert. Prior to the meeting, ballots were handed out for election of officers/directors for 2019.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ballots were then collected and counted by the Election Committee. There were approximately 80 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Richard Scoville, Jerry Leininger, Dennis Tramer, Mike Montgomery, Terry Fulford, Don Marmion, Tom Conlisk, Tom Retterath and Nick Zamora. There were no Life Members present. There were likewise no new members present.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Jerry Leininger reminded us that the new Rules of Golf will be effective 1/1/2019 and SCGA would soon be holding seminars discussing them. Additionally, Bob Livingstone will be giving us a brief summary of many of the new rules at the December meeting. Jerry presented the Most Improved Golfer Award for the third quarter to David Lee. Nice job David. Jerry also noted that we have been invited by Rick Crowder, our previous General Manager, to play Coto de Caza on Monday, November 26 for $65, including cart and a box lunch. Rick is currently GM at Coto and worked out this deal for us.

Director Mike Montgomery reminded us how important it is to be ready to hit on the first tee and to keep up all day long. Given the large number of groups playing and the lack of daylight this time of year, it is critical that we all play ready golf. It was suggested by the membership that we assess penalty strokes during the course of the round for slow play. While the Board has the authority to do so, we’ll hold off on that for now. Mike then announced the election results, as follow: President – Cliff Aichele; Vice President/Tournament Chairman – Dennis Tramer; Secretary – Rob Kuehn; Treasurer – Bob Livingstone; Directors – Mike Vaughn and Matt Huntington. I’m not sure if congratulations or condolences are in order. It was then moved, seconded and approved to destroy the ballots.

Director Matt Huntington announced the Golfers of the Month for October. Gross Winner was Scott Paul with a very nice 69, while Net honors went to Lloyd Lee with a sparkling 64. By time you read this, Lloyd should have gotten a letter from Jerry. Matt then asked all Veterans to please stand up, and he led us in a round of applause for these truly special people who volunteered to serve and protect our country.

Director Omar Diaz announced the Special Events for this month’s Superintendent’s Revenge Tournament. We’ll have skins, CTP on #3, and the Triple Turkey – net par or better on #1, 5, 7, 11, 17, and 18. Omar noted that Saturday Team Play try-outs are under way, and mentioned that is now allowable to play on both the Thursday and Saturday Teams. Omar introduced Justin Vanderbroek , who is serving with Mel Collins as Co-captains of the Thursday Team. Justin noted that try-outs for Thursday’s Team will be 11/15 and 12/6. Contact Justin or Mel if you’re interested in playing.

Director Lucero reported results of the Lakewood Away Tournament, our last Away Tournament of the year. He was very disappointed that we only had 60 players, as we always book times for 64 players. So sign up for a couple of these fun events next year guys. You’ll be glad you did. The schedule is currently being finalized, but will certainly include Rec Park, Lakewood and Mile Square among others. Lucero will announce the 2018 winner of the Little Brown Jug at the December meeting.


Director Mike Vaughn announced the Flights Championship results. Mike noted that the Quad Club is coming up soon. It will be held at Skylinks this year. Contact Mike if you’re interested. Attendance is limited to 25 players from each club.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer announced results of October’s Orange Ball Tournament. Dennis also decried the slow pace of play and strongly urged everyone to pick up the pace – especially since he is in the last group this month and doesn’t see very well in the dark. It should be a very different but very interesting course set-up this month, with short par threes, some monster par fours, #8 playing as a par 5, #10 playing as long as possible, #18 playing up as a par 4, etc. We’ll post as a Blue Tee score.

The December Tournament is a mail-in application, a 7:30 Shotgun (be at the course by 7:00 to check in and get your awesome tee prize), and costs $90 to ride/$75 to walk. Following the tournament are the various derbies that you can enter. These are really a lot of fun and can be very lucrative for the winners. And don’t miss the December meeting and huge Raffle with millions of dollars’ worth of prizes. Well maybe not millions.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: Jerry Leininger announced that he is running a $30 Derby after the Christmas Tournament. See Jerry if you’re interested.

The $50 Drawing winner was Wes McCollum. The meeting was adjourned at 7:55.

Wow, it is December already. The Flight Championship matches were played on November 3. The Winners and Runner-ups were President; Greg Andersen def. Scott Davis (2&1), Vice President; Dave McNaney def. Keith Pacheco (3&2), Secretary; Sebastian Sturdevant def. Kenneth Cheong (1-Up, 20 holes), Treasurer; Mark Schmillen def. Wes McCollum (4&3), and Director; Dennis Smith def Lloyd Lee (3&2). Trophies and prize money will be presented at the December General Meeting Tuesday December 11, 2018. Monetary awards will be presented to the Runner Ups and to those who made it to the semi-finals where their journey ended there. Be sure to be at the meeting.

It is exciting thinking about serving the Club in this same position in 2019. Setting up our Quad Club team, holding the Putting Tournaments, and finishing the year with the Flight Match Play Championships is what it is all about.

Quad Club will be played Saturday April 27, 2019 at Skylinks. Tee times normally start at 7:00 am. As implemented in 2016 to meet the City of Long Beach stipulations to have this annual event Quad Club teams were reduced from 40 players to 25. Players who won 3 points at El Dorado have anchored spots on the 2019 team and will be given first dibs. Other members who scored well or have the potential to score well will be recruited to put together a team to win back the Quad Club trophy to be placed in our trophy case!

So we have one more month left for Golfer of the Month. Very low turnout in November with only 1 Net card and 3 gross. Noah Busch beat out Dave Rubin 70 to 71, nice round boys, but how the hell did i get a gross GOM 8 months before you guys. I can't believe I am typing Rob Kuehn's name as the winner, it must be getting very cold down there, and i think i saw a pig fly a couple days ago. Nice round Rob, enjoy the handicap adjustment buddy. Hope to see everyone at the Christmas meeting as it will be fun as always.

On November 17th we had the “SUPERINTENDENT’S REVENGE” Tournament. First off I would like to thank our “SUPER” Superintendent Marc Lilleberg for a job well done. Even though I had to quell him a little bit, he did a remarkable job with the pins and the greens. I believe we only had around 10 guys shoot under net 70. THANKS MARC! Next up is on #17 Vern Cannon had a hole in one. That’s right, we all need to fork over another $5. Hope you liked the 2 changes I made making 8 a par 5 & 18 a par 4. Didn’t realize how brutal that tee shot on 8 would be. Coudos to Brad Wilcox for making an Eagle 3 on that hole.

Now of to the results as the “A” Gross winners were no surprise as shooting a 10 under 206 was Gonzo, Adam Horodyski, Mike Petersen, Mickey Miller & Christian Villalobos. The “A” Net winners was a stunner ( I guess the got tired of getting beat up in the gross) as they shot a 23 under 193 was Omar Diaz, Matt Huntington, Ryan Boyker, Dave Rubin & Terry Cormack. Could have got 50-1 on that group to win net! In the “B” the Gross winners (and also low net) was are new perennial winners shooting only a 6 over 222 were Roger Marmion, Tyler Marmion, Chris McMonigle, Shaun Steenwyck & Mike Burke. Winning the Net shooting a 20 under 196 were Mike Wilson, Brian Dauk, Monty Bisson, Shaun Ferguson & Vern (ACE) Cannon. In the”C” (commonly known as the CHOP FLIGHT), the Gross winners winning a card off with a 26 over 242 were Dennis Tramer, Jim Byers, Al Ostberg, Scotty Brown & Lloyd Lee. Nice Try Rob Kuehn, but not good enough. The net winners at a 27 under 189 were Bill Walton, Brett Latzsch, Walter Lee, Dan Ahearn & John Frixione.

I would like to thank everyone for playing quickly as I finished before dark. We teed off of 11:50 (20 minutes late) but finished at 5:00. Five hours and 10 minute round with that many golfers was us doing a great job. As always all the results are on the website.

One year down and one to go, NO, that's 3 years down and one to go. I will be taking signups for the January Scramble which is on SUNDAY, January 13th at the December meeting. Once again we are limited in times so if you want to play come to the meeting, and our great raffle, to put your name in for a time. As always we will play fivesomes using the “Tramer” HCP System and we have a 3 Drive Minimum per player. Any long hitters out there I have a spot available! We will play the BLUE TEES except for the Par 3’s so I have a chance to get there with a Driver. So that means a 175 Yard Max on those holes.

The Club has ordered 325 copies of the 2019 Rules of Golf (Player's Edition) and will pass them out to members at either the December General Meeting or the Christmas Tournament. PLEASE take only one!

Also, 2019 Rules Chairman Omar Diaz and sidekick Bob Livingstone will be doing some 5-10 minute presentations on some of the critical parts of the changes from the current Modernization of the Rules at upcoming meetings.
