Happy New Year El Dorado Men’s Club! I’m looking forward to spending another great year with all you “Sticks, Players, Gamers, Chops, Hacks and Slashers.”

We capped off 2018 with a fantastic Christmas Shotgun Tournament. Every week I see new members pop up on the rosters, so let’s make sure to show how great our club is and welcome them aboard.

The 2019 schedule has been posted, including 5 away trips and the weekender in October. The New Year also means that we all have to learn the ins and outs of the new rules. Bob Livingstone is the perfect guy to guide us through this challenge. There are still plenty of the new rule books left which will be available at the General Meeting and the January tournament. Be sure to grab one if you haven’t already. Also, Team Play starts in January. Good luck guys! Play hard and have fun.

The BOD welcomes Don Didier as our new Special Events Director. I’m sure Don is going to do a great job and we are excited that he joined the Board.

DECEMBER 2018 MEETING MINUTES
The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner was a nice Christmas feast – turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, peas and carrots, cranberry sauce, cornbread, salad and carrot cake and chocolate cake for desert.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 140 members in attendance (the most since last December), including Past Presidents Richard Scoville, Jerry Leininger, Dennis Tramer, Mike Montgomery, Terry Fulford, Don Marmion, Tom Conlisk, Tom Retterath, Nick Zamora and Life Member the newly retired Bob Livingstone. No more counting the days Livy. New members Mike Cole, Steve Sterry and Allen Starr introduced themselves to the group and were given the New Member Spiel by Past President Nick Zamora.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Bob Livingstone discussed “taking relief” pursuant to the new rules effective 1/1/2019. Bob noted that there were new Rule Books available on the tables and at the Tournament this weekend. There will be an interactive web site available early next year to ask questions and get answers relative to the new rules. Bob will discuss how the new rules impact Team Play at the January General Meeting. Bob then dealt with specific questions from the floor.

Director Jerry Leininger reminded us he is running a $30 Derby on Saturday.

Director Mike Montgomery noted that he would be selling raffle tickets for a couple minutes after the meeting prior to the drawing.

Director Matt Huntington announced the Golfers of the Month for November. Gross winner was Noah Busch with a 70. Net winner was (believe it or not) yours truly with a 66. Matty is also running a Derby on Saturday.

Director Omar Diaz announced the Special Events for this month’s Christmas Tournament. We’ll have skins (gross for A and B Flights, net for C Flight), second shot on #5 in the circle (on the green for the C Flight), and Honeypot (Net 70 or better).

Director Lucero again strongly urged everyone to consider playing in Away Tournaments next year. We should have a minimum of 64 players at each event. We have 6 Away Tournaments next year. The first is at Rec Park on January 27. New Schedule Cards are available that list all Home and Away Tournaments. Lucero announced the winner of the Little Brown Jug – the overall Away Tournament Champion. And the winner is……..A tie between Matt Williams and Dennis (I never win anything) Tramer. Congratulations guys.

Director Zamora urged everyone to sign up for the Hole In One Fund, as it was just won by Vern Cannon at the November Tournament. Nice job Vern.

Director Mike Vaughn announced the Flights Championship results and awarded prizes and trophies to winners. Mike reminded us that Quad Club is coming up in April.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer announced the results of November’s Superintendent’s Revenge Tournament. He noted that we have 198 players for the Christmas Tournament – the most in a long time. So be ready and play as quick as you can and maybe it will only be a 6 hour round. Be sure to check in prior to 7:15.

The $50 Drawing winner was Cliff Aichele. No – he didn’t promise me 1/2.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:50. Mike Montgomery sold raffle tickets for a few minutes and then started the drawing.

Can you believe another New Year is here?

The process of constructing our 25-man team for the 2019 Quad Club is in gear. The event will be Saturday April 27, hosted by Skylinks. The Pros will most likely tee it up first at 7:00 am followed by the Club Presidents. Players who won 3 points last year at Lakewood have anchored spots on this years’ team and are being given first dibs. Other members who scored well or have the potential to score well will be recruited to put together a team to win so we can place the Quad Club trophy back in our trophy case!

During Daylight Saving Time, a Putting Tournament will be held on the south putting green each month on the Tuesday of the monthly meeting starting around 5:30 pm.

As normal, the Flights Match Play Championships will close the year. Signups for Flights will be started in June. Signup fee will be $20 per player. The first round matches can be played as early as August 1.

What a nice day we had for the CHRISTMAS Tournament. First off I would like to thank all the players for keeping up and playing very fast for this tournament. We had 33 sixsomes on the course and we played in around 6 hours. GREAT JOB GENTLEMEN!

Let’s start off with your “A” Flight winners, as the Gross winners (led with a nice 68 by Nick Mardesich) at 7 under par were Nick Mardesich, Adam Horodyski & Jimmy “the kid” Byers. The “A” Net was a “RETTERATH BANDITS” affair as winning a cardoff with an 11-under 133 were Rich Boyker, Ryan Boyker & Glenn Sparks over the aforementioned Tom Retterath, Greg Andersen & Mike Moraitis.

For the “B” Flight, winning the Gross with a fine 7 over par 151 was Terry Cormack, Walter Gordon, & Bryan Knigge. For the Net, winning a card off at 10 under 134 (over Byron Brno & the “Huge Nuts” boys Don & Bret) we had Dudley Dennison, John Jameson & Mike Dugan. Dudley finally listened to me as I told him he could win if he dumped Rob Kuehn.

There was no surprise as the “C” Flight was won by the “Hottest Team out there". Collecting the Gross with a 10 over 154 (they also would have won net) were the “PUPS" Roger & Tyler Marmion and being the nice boys that they are, they let “Daddy” Yellow Dog tag along for the victory. Winning the net at a 13 under 131, was the “boys” that usually play with them every month Chris McMonigle, Shaun Steenwyck & Mike Burke. JERRY, you seeing this?

Last but least the “D” Flight had the lowest score of the tournament with a 15 under 129 (but they also won the gross with a 16 over 160) were Colin Boylan, Kevin Boylan & Mark Trentacosta. Benefitting from that team winning the Gross and then winning a cardoff for net over Richard Scoville, Tim Braswell & Mark Meyer at a 12 under 132, was Tinman “Bagger” Fulford, Lee McCullough & Carl Taylor. NICE SHOOTING TO ALL YOU WINNERS. As Always the complete results are on the Website.

Coming up Sunday the 13th of January is the Scramble. Again we have a very full field so we need to play quickly. Since this is a SCRAMBLE the early times should finish no later than 4:15 and the later groups 4:45. As always we will play fivesomes using the “Tramer” HDCP System which is as follows ( HDCP OF 3 OR LOWER =0 4-6=.5 7-9=1 10-12=1.5 13-15=2 16-19=2.5 20-22 =3 23-25=3.5 26 & ABOVE =4) and we have a 3 Drive Minimum per player. We will play the BLUE TEES except for the Par 3’s so I have a chance to get there with a Driver. So that means a 175 Yard Max on those holes.

I will be taking signups for the February Select Drive which is on SUNDAY, February 17th at the January meeting. Once again we are limited in times so if you want to play come to the meeting. This Tournament is a 3 Best Ball played at 80% of your current or assigned Handicap. You must use 3 drives minimum from every player.

First and foremost, thank you Omar for an excellent term as Special Events Director. One of the most underappreciated tasks Omar accomplished is posting results quickly. All players like to see results a soon as possible. Working together, Dennis and Omar have set that bar pretty high. I’ll do my best to keep it there!

The Christmas Shotgun Tournament was a great success! 53 members got a piece of the Special Events pot lead by Mel Collins, Kevin Mehlbrech and Mickey Miller in A Flight, Brian Dauk stood out in B Flight and Ricky Evans, Terry Fletcher and Shaun Steenwyk had strong showings in C Flight. Well done everyone! All results are posted on the website.

Greetings fellow golfers and weekend buddies. Let me start by saying Happy New Year to all of you.

You must play in 4 away trips to qualify.

Our first away trip of the year is at the Recreation Park in Long Beach Sunday, January 27; green fees are $70 plus $10 skins. We are playing fivesomes from the combo tees, just look for El Dorado lollipops on the tee boxes. The scoring format will be the Waltz, and because is a fivesome is 2-3-4; 2 scores on the first hole, 3 scores on the 2nd hole and 4 scores on the 3rd hole and repeat.

Hope to see all of yo guys out there in our away trips.

We are ready to launch our El Dorado Men’s Club Rules of Golf Forum and Chat Room that was mentioned in December. Look for the link on the Home page or in the Monthly Member email. While anyone can read the various message strings or postings, in order to participate by writing posts or submitting questions, you will need to create an account with a user name and password. This can be done the first time you go the site or any time after that.

The purpose of this Chat Room will be to recap the Rules that are discussed at each General Meeting, provide education and links about the new 2019 Rules and answer questions about the Rules that are submitted by members.

The Board has also approved new Local Rules and copies of our "Hard Card" will be available at either the January Meeting or January Tournament. Of note, we have adopted Model Local Rule F-5; if there is an immovable obstruction (like a sprinkler head or coupler cover) on your line of play and it is within 2 clubs lengths of the green and within two club lengths of your ball, and your ball is in grass mowed to fairway height or less, you may take relief. You are welcome Terry Fulford and the many people for whom you were a trailblazer!

The January 2019 Scramble is in the books. Even though we had a fair amount of rain before the tournament, causing many of us to wade through a little water to get to the golf ball, it was still a nice day and we got to play golf after all. How much more can a person ask for? Lucero put together a great Away Tournament at Recreation Park. The course was in great shape with smooth, fast greens. Team Play is in full swing and off to a solid start. Thursday Team’s first home match vs. Los Verdes was postponed due to rain. Fortunately, they went on the road the following week and beat them handily.

Coming up this month is the end of the “Silly Season,” culminating with the Select Drive. This tournament gives you a lot more chances to hit from the middle of the fairway which makes it a lot of fun.

The NEW EDMGC Forum is up and running. This is a very useful tool for any rules questions that you may have and help with understanding the plethora of 2019 Rules changes. Bob Livingstone, our very own Rules Guru, is very quick to respond answering questions posted in the forum. A link is located on the front page of the EDMGC website in the “Club Information” section.

It’s that time of year when I like to remind veteran members, and inform new members, of the following club policy. To be eligible to play in the any of the 3 club subsidized events: The Member-Member, The Club Championship and The Christmas Tournament, you must have played in at least 3 club events in the previous 12 months to the subsidized tournament. “Club events” are defined as monthly tournaments, away tournaments, Team Play, Quad Club or the Weekender. There is plenty of time to play in 3 events and qualify for these subsidized tournaments.

JANUARY 2019 MEETING MINUTES

The pre-meeting dinner was Chef Roberto Bingamini’s Italian Special: salad, fettuccine, both red and white sauces, meatballs, sausages/peppers/onions, ravioli, garlic bread, fresh Parmesan cheese, and cookies for desert.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 85 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Richard Scoville, Jerry Leininger, Dennis Tramer, Mike Montgomery, Terry Fulford, and Life Member Bob Livingstone. New members Jesse Duncan, Robert Griggs, Donny Dubry and Wayne Tranchon introduced themselves to the group and were given the New Member Spiel by Past President Terry Fulford.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.

There will be a Forum Chat Room available on the Club’s web site in the near future to ask questions and get answers relative to the new rules. Bob then discussed the Club’s Hard Card, which lays out Local Rules as adopted, with special emphasis on relief from sprinkler heads near the green. Bob then dealt with specific questions from the floor.

Director Jerry Leininger reported that the Most Improved Golfer for the 4th Quarter was Sam Krishna, while the Most Improved Golfer for the Year 2018 was Bret Holloway. Congratulations men – getting better is what we’re all trying to do.

Director Mike Montgomery re-emphasized the need to BE READY to tee off at your starting time. With limited daylight hours this time of the year, and our 180+ players every month, we all need to be ready and keep up with the group ahead.

Director Matt Huntington announced the Golfers of the Month for December. Gross winner was Nick Mardesich with a nice 68, while Net honors went to Sam Krishna with a very low 64. Quite a night for Sam, who should be expecting a letter from the Handicap Committee in the near future . Such is the price of success.

Director Don Didier, after thanking Omar for his outstanding service as previous Special Events Director, and noting that more than 50 players shared in Special Events winnings at the December Tournament, announced the Special Events for this month’s Scramble Tournament. We’ll have CTP on Holes #3 and 12 (paying 5 places each), and In the Circle A and B Flights/On the Green C Flight on Holes #9 and 17.

Director Lucero reminded everyone that our first Away Tournament of the year is January 27 at Rec Park. Contact Lucero to sign up. Total cost is $80 and we’ll play from the combo tees. The Weekender currently scheduled for the last weekend in October is a little iffy right now, as San Vicente may not be reopened by then. We’re looking at other options just in case. More info to follow. Lucero noted that the Little Brown Jug Award for 2019 has been increased to $100.

Director Mike Vaughn reminded us that Quad Club is coming up on April 27 at Skylinks . Cost will be $48 plus cart.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer announced the results of December’s Christmas Tournament and congratulated us all for finishing in just under 6 hours, which wasn’t bad considering we had 198 golfers. January’s Tournament is the Scramble, requiring a minimum of 3 drives from each player. Don’t let the threat of rain keep you away. Unless the course closes (which practically never happens) we’re playing. And if you don’t show you’re still paying.

The $50 Drawing winner was Michael Burke, the 7th name I called. Guess who was #8? So close.

Daylight Saving Time starts this year at 2:00 am Sunday March 10 and ends Sunday November 3 at 2:00 am. The Putting Contest will be held on meeting night during the months of March, April, May, June, July, August, September and October at or about 5:15 and continue to 6:45 pm on the south green. The Board has voted to increase our stipend to $50 for each month's putting tournament! This will allow for a combination of more winners and/or more handsome payouts. Normal participants are welcomed back and new players are encouraged to participate in this fun activity. Bring your putter and take a shot at winning some extra cash. Format changes monthly.

Quad Club is to be contested Saturday April 27 at Skylinks. Teams will consist of 25 players. Cost to play will be $60 per player which includes green fee and prize fund. Your handicap will be determined per your April 15 Current Index. Please have your money to me in cash or a check payable to “Mike Vaughn” ASAP, NLT the April 1 Gross / 2 Net tournament on Saturday April 14. The first group starting time will be Club Pros at 7:00 am. The President / Vice President group will most likely tee off second, with groups proceeding from lower to higher handicap. It is not yet know which tees we will be playing from. The format will be Medal play using the 3-2-1-0 point system. The initial players sought to be on this team have been contacted. Players who win 3-points this year will have a roster spot guaranteed for the 2019 event when the event returns to Rec Park.

Flight Championships will be put together in mid-summer. Those matches will get underway as early as August 1. Player entry fee will remain at $20. Signups to be begin NLT June 1. More on that when the time gets closer.

Always remain a professional while at or on the golf course, regardless of how you played.

Sunday the 13th of January the Scramble went quite well and everyone finished before dusk. Scores were a tad higher than normal, and all the Flights were quite close for cashing.

In the “A” no surprise for the Gross as the winners with a 15 under 57 was “Gonzo”, Steve Sterry, Chris Villalobos, Austin Barisoff & Mickey Miller. They told me playing in these tournaments is like going to the ATM machine. Getting the “A” Net at a 18 under 54 was CJ Triola, Brent Huntington, Bill Hasselman, John Hasselman & Mark Schmillian. It’s been a while since these “Kids” have even cashed so it’s nice to see that they’re back to playing like we know they can.

In the “B” winning the Gross with a 11 under 61 was BAGGER TINMAN FULFORD, Lee McCullough, Carl Taylor, Mel Collins & Jeff Thomas (New Member). For the net winning a cardoff with a 19 under 53 was the Team that wins every month. Roger Marmion, Tyler Marmion, Chris McMonigle, Shaun Steenwyck & Mike Burke.

In the “C” Flight (the C is for CHOP) winning the Gross with an 11 under 61 was Brett Latzsch, Bill Walton, Walter Lee, Dan Ahearn & Dean Booher. The net winners at 19.5 under were the Retterath Bandits own Henry Degraaff, Jeff Degraaff, Danny Martin, Cary Thomason & Pingo Zamarripa. In the 4 man Folight winning by 3.5 shots with a 20.5 under 51.5 was Matt Williams, Craig McDonald, Matt Dao & Josh Dubon.

Coming up on SUNDAY, February 17th is the Select Drive. Once again we are booked to the hilt so once again we need to play fast. If you are out of the hole PICK UP YOUR BALL. This Tournament is a 3-Best Ball played at 80% of your current or assigned Handicap. You must use 3 drives minimum from every player.

At the meeting I will be taking signups for the 1-2-3 Pat Harris Waltz which is on St. Paddy’s Day; Sunday, March 17th. Daylight Saving is back, so there should be plenty of times, so everyone should get into the tournament. I will be out of town for this meeting and tournament so I will inform you at this month’s meeting and in next month’s newsletter who THE POOR SUCKER is that will be taking care of all the signups at the March meeting.

We had 51 players earn points in the January Scramble Special Events.

A Flight had strong showings from Scott Davis, Omar Diaz, John Hasselman, Nick Mardesich and Bob Livingstone.

Robert Creighton and Dana Pagett dominated B Flight as they were the only ones to get inside the circle on #17! Mark Meyer hit it to 9” on #3. Nice shot Mark! Nobody from B Flight got inside the circle on #9. Come on man!

Michael Burke and Walter Lee racked up the points in C Flight. Michael was the only player in the field to hit all four targets and Walter Lee the only player to hit 3 of 4 targets!

February Select Drive Tournament will limit us to circles and KP’s again. We’ll have circles on holes 3 & 17 and KP’s on holes 9 & 12.

Hello fellow golfers and weekend buddies,

Let's start by saying the Rec was a total success, even though we had a few hiccups with the Marshall. Our first place winners, it had to be one of the bandits - the Eric Lishka group, followed by the Jim Crosby group and third place, Mike Montgomery's group.

Our gross winner was David Spencer with a 75 and our Net winner was Terry Fulford with a 66 net.

And of course the biggest sandbagger of all time Henry Degraaff and Jeff Tanner pretty much cleaned out all the skins (no more double dots).

Our next away trip is going to be at the Costa Mesa (Los Lagos) on Sunday, March 31, green fees and prize funds are $90 plus $10 skins. I need to have your groups by the first week of March, so if you are interested in playing please give me your group as soon as possible.

PS: We are starting the hole in one fund for the away trips. It's $10 and I'll be collecting that money. If you are interested, come see me.

Preferred Lies

With all the rain we are having, I thought it is a good time to review Posting scores when using "Preferred Lies" or as we call them, Lift, Clean, and Place.

USGA Rulebook section 7-1
During our tournaments the "Tournament Committee' / Handicap Committee determines if a "local rule" (Preferred Lies) will be in effect and scores are to be posted. "if an individual decides to apply some form of this local rule and the Committee has NOT invoked such a rule, the players score is acceptable and must be posted for handicap purposes"
Bottom Line - Post your score when using Preferred Lies when playing with your buddies.

At the February General Meeting we will go over our 2019 Hard Card. This contains the Local Rules for all of our events at Eldo. Copies are available at each Meeting and Tournament, so pick up ONE and keep it in your golf bag. You can also find it (and print a copy of it if you wish) on the website; look for the Local Rules link on the Home page.

For those of you fortunate enough to learn at the knee of Terry Fulford, and who therefore putt from anywhere from 2 to 20 yards off the green, we now allow relief from obstructions near the green (sprinklers, couplers, etc.). If the obstruction is on your line of play and within 2 club lengths of the green and if your ball is within 2 club lengths of the obstruction, you may take relief. We will go over this and all of the other Rules that have been adopted at the meeting, so see you there.

Thanks everyone for the great turn out at the Select Drive. Even though the conditions weren’t ideal, everyone seemed to enjoy getting out on the course. This kind of commitment to the El Dorado Golf Course goes a long way, and I know General Manager Sung really appreciated it.

This month we get to celebrate one the great past characters of our club: Pat Harris. What better way to do it than on March 17th during the Pat Harris St. Patrick’s Day Waltz. I will be filling in for Dennis on meeting night so come see me if you want to pay or make changes to your lineup for the Waltz. Nick Z. will be handling signups for the April 1 Gross 2 Net tournament at the conclusion of the meeting.

FEBRUARY 2019 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting rainy night comfort meal included salad, meat loaf, corn, mashed potatoes, gravy and cookies for desert.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 65 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Richard Scoville, Jerry Leininger, Dennis Tramer, Mike Montgomery, Nick Zamora, and Life Member Bob Livingstone. New members Bob Schwing and Andrew Cochrane introduced themselves to the group and were given the New Member Spiel by Past President Nick Zamora.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Bob Livingstone discussed the updated 2019-2020 El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club Hard Card, which identifies Conditions of Competition, Local Rules and SCGA Team Play Conditions pursuant to the various new/revised USGA Rules. Bob noted that we will be playing “winter rules” this weekend and explained “one scorecard distance.” He also discussed various bunker (never call it a trap) issues and ground under repair issues.

Director Jerry Leininger reported that SCGA is requesting your thoughts relative to Orange County’s proposed shutting down the Players Course at Mile Square. Go to the SCGA website to express your thoughts (displeasure?).

Director Mike Montgomery re-emphasized the need to BE READY to tee off at your starting time. With limited daylight hours this time of the year, and our 180+ players every month, we all need to be ready and keep up with the group ahead. Mike also noted that Director Terry Fulford was having knee replacement surgery but would probably be back playing real soon.

Director Matt Huntington announced the Golfer of the Month for January. As there was only one card turned in, Net GOM was Mark Ziegenhagen with a 68. My 102 would have won gross if only I had turned it in! Matty noted that the Thursday Team was 1-1 and the Saturday Team was 2-1, with both teams having rain-outs to make up.

Director Don Didier announced the Special Events for this month’s Select Drive Tournament. We’ll have CTP on Holes #9 and 12 (paying 5 places each), and In the Circle A and B Flights/On the Green C Flight on Holes #3 and 17. Don noted that 52 players cashed in the January Tournament.

Director Lucero summarized the results of our first Away Tournament of the year at Rec Park, where we had 80 players. Our next Away Tournament is March 31 at Costa Mesa’s Los Lagos course. Contact Lucero asap to sign up.

President Aichele noted that Nick Zamora was collecting $5 for the Hole in One Fund, since it was recently won. The $5 is a cheap insurance policy so see Nick to sign up.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer announced the results of the January Scramble, noting that it went well in spite of the public groups that the course started before us and who were responsible for significant early delays. February is Select Drive: 3 Best balls, 80% handicaps, and a minimum of 3 drives per player. Times run from 6:24-11:57. The March Tournament is the 2-3-4 Pat Harris Waltz.

Daylight Saving Time starts this year at 2:00 am Sunday, March 10 and ends Sunday, November 3 at 2:00 am. The Putting Contest will be held on meeting night during the months of March, April, May, June, July, August, September and October at or about 5:15 and continue to 6:45 pm on the south green. The Board has voted to increase the Putting Contest stipend to $50 for each month's putting tournament. Normal participants are welcomed back and new players are encouraged to participate in this fun activity. Bring your putter and take a shot at winning a little extra cash. Format changes monthly.

The Quad Club is to be contested Saturday April 27 at Skylinks. We are playing to bring the trophy back to our trophy case. Teams will consist of 25 players. Cost to play will be $60 per player which includes green fee and prize fund. Our team players have been selected as well as contacted. Your handicap will be determined per your April 15 Current Index. Please have your money to me in cash or a check payable to “Mike Vaughn” ASAP, NLT the April 1 Gross / 2 Net tournament on Saturday April 14. The first group starting time will be Club Pros at 7:00 am. The President / Vice President group will most likely tee off second, with groups proceeding from lower to higher handicap. It is not yet known which tee we will be playing from. The format will be Medal play using the 3-2-1-0 point system. Players who win 3-points this year will have a roster spot guaranteed for the 2020 event when the event moves to Recreation Park.

The Flight Championships will be put together in mid-summer. Those matches will get underway as early as August 1. Player entry fee will remain at $20. Signup sheets to be posted NLT June 1. More on that when the time gets closer.

Always remain a professional while at or on the golf course, regardless of how you played.

On Sunday the 17th of February, the Select Drive went as well as could be expected with the wet course conditions. Fortunately it only rained for about 10 minutes. Scores were lower than normal, more than likely because all the Tees were up and we played #10 & #18 as Par 4’s due to wetness.

In the “A”, nice to see the “Big O” and his Merry Band of Bandits win the Gross as the winners with a 10 under 200 was Omar Diaz, Jim Byers, Dave Rubin , Justin Vanderbroek & the infamous Blind Draw. Getting the “A” Net at a 30 under 180 was Josh Dubón, Matt Williams, Matt Dao, Ketan Dhawan & once again the infamous Blind Draw. I can attest that these 2 prior teams must have played well as the Blind Draw was a 2 HCP and he played on my Team. That means on 3 par 4 holes he had to hit 4 iron or more.

In the “B”, winning the Gross with a 2 over 212 was a shocker as it was Don Didier, Brad Wilcox, Mike Miller, Tony Glorioso & Ken Cheong. I play with these guys every Wednesday and trust me, they are not that good! For the net winning a cardoff with a 29 under 181 was Bob Schwing, Jim Zehmer, Phi Dauk, Vern Cannon & Jim Fuchs.

In the “C” Flight, winning the Gross with a 5 over 215 was Brian Ball, Scott Lindman, Dewayne Kirksey, Anthony Coyne & Jim Coates. The net winners at a 30 under 180 was Ken Rademacher, Jeff Nakao, Jim McDavid, Phil Friess & John Kilgore. Boy, these guys do pretty good when they don’t have to play there own ball through the hole. As always all the results are on the website.

Coming up on SUNDAY, March 17th is the Pat Harris 2-3-4 Waltz. This will be played from the COMBO Tees. I AM OUT OF TOWN FOR THIS TOURNAMENT AND MEETING. Any Team that is not filled by March 7th I will fill it for you. I need to have as much of this done before I leave. The “PREZ” Cliffy is going to handle this for me so if you pay on Meeting Night look for Cliff. Any changes text me as I will have access to WIFI and make all the changes.

At the meeting, Nick “The Quick” Zamora will be taking signups for the 1 Gross/2 Net which is on Sunday, April 14th. Plenty of times available so everyone should get in. We will play the White Tees for this one.

Congratulations to winners in our February Select Drive Tournament Special Events. 51 players earned points.

Dewayne Kirksey was the only B Flight player to get inside the circle on #17. Only two A Flight players did the same on the 17th.

B Flight stretched the meaning of “Closest” on #9. Winning shot was 19 feet and payed out to 57’-10”! Nice Colin!

There were some great shots on the Closest to Pin holes. Scott Lindman, Adam Horodyski, Bryan Knigge, Tony Glorioso, Dennis Smith and Jerry Hodge all hit it inside 10 feet on the longer par 3’s. Well done!

Our March Tournament, Pat Harris St. Patrick’s Day Waltz, will see the return of skins to Special Events along with other favorite events.

Pat Harris’s spirit lived on during the St. Patrick’s Day Waltz. Lots of smiles and happy faces to go around on a beautiful sunny day. Thanks everyone for helping to make the tournament go smoothly in V.P. Dennis’ absence.

March finished off with a drive trip to Costa Mesa’s Los Lagos Golf Course for another perfect spring day and great course conditions. Thanks to Lucero and Dennis for putting it together. Unfortunately, there were a couple of no shows, NOT GOOD. All it takes is a phone call to Lucero or any of the board members to let them know you’re not going to make it to a tournament.

There are 2 opportunities left in April, the 1 Gross 2 Net tournament and the Quad Club Tournament if you need them to qualify for the Member-Member that’s coming up in May. Remember you need to have played 3 events in the previous 12 months to qualify.

MARCH 2019 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner was the starting to be standard winter comfort meal including salad, meat loaf, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, and cookies for desert. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 105 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Richard Scoville, Jerry Leininger, Mike Montgomery, Terry Fulford (and his brand new knee), Nick Zamora, Tom Conlisk, Don Marmion and Life Member Bob Livingstone. New members including Connor Burke, Andrew Pulido, and Mikio Kelly introduced themselves to the group and were given the New Member Spiel by Past President Nick Zamora.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. President Aichele noted that he would be running the March Tournament as VP Dennis Tramer was not available (On vacation? Under federal indictment? Doing time? Who knows.). Cliff also thanked everyone for being troopers and hanging tough under less than ideal conditions at the February Tournament.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Bob Livingstone noted that this coming Sunday (Tournament day) would have been the 86th birthday of Pat Harris, the only member to have a tournament named after him. Bob also discussed rules relative to accidentally moving your ball while searching for it, and relief from sprinkler heads around the green.

Director Jerry Leininger informed us that the March Tournament would be played from the White tees and reminded everyone to post their own score.

Director Mike Montgomery re-emphasized the need to BE READY to tee off at your starting time. Mike also suggested good thoughts and prayers for the family of Danny Martin whose wife recently passed away.

Director Omar Diaz, filling in for an under the weather Director Matt Huntington, announced the Golfers of the Month for February; There were no Gross cards turned in, and only one Net card: Dennis Tramer, who can no longer say “I never win anything.” Winner of the 9 Hole pre-meeting tournament was Colin Boylan, with Mark Ziegenhagen and Ketan Dhawan tied for second. Omar noted that both the Saturday Team and the Thursday Team finished 4-2 but didn’t quite make the play-offs. Congratulations to both teams and their hard working captains. Omar also noted that Ziggy qualified for the Net Amateur Championship at Industry Hills. Do us proud, Zig.

Director Don Didier announced the Special Events for this month’s Tournament. We’ll have CTP on Hole #17 (paying 5 places each Flight), skins (gross for A and B Flights, Net for C Flight), and The Irish Jig – net par or better on each of the 7 hardest holes (#1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 13, and 15).

Director Lucero reminded everyone that our next Away Tournament is March 31 at Costa Mesa’s Los Lagos Course. It’s a Two Best Ball event, played from the white tees, and the cost is $90. See Lucero to sign your team up.

Director Mike Vaughn noted that we had a great turnout for the first putting tournament of the year – 20 participants. There was a three way tie for first – Josh Castlen, Bret Holloway, and Todd Thiele. Mike reminded us that the annual Quad Club Tourney was only 6 weeks away.

Director Nick Zamora announced that the pre-meeting Derby would start next month. The $20 entry fee includes green fees and a cart. See Nick to sign up for this fun (and potentially lucrative) event. Also see nick to sign up for the Hole in One Fund if you haven’t already done so.

President Aichele discussed the new policy regarding pay-outs for a hole in one.

The Board voted to increase the stipend for each putting contest to $50 in effort to build up the prize fund! The March “Count them All” putting contest went well. We had 20 players with a prize fund of $175. 10 players collected which is 50% of the field. There was a 7-way tie for 2nd with 1-under 17. They were Corey Henn, Mike Misener, Mike Wilson, Jeff Benedetti, Mike Peterson, John Suttie and Scott Dietschak. 1st place was a 3-way tie at 2-under 16 between Josh Castlen, Bret Holloway and Todd Thiele. Be sure to mark your calendar to be at the south putting green April 9 to participate in the April event. It will begin at or about 5:15 and continue to 6:45 pm. Format yet TBD.

Sunday the 17th of March, I heard everything went well. Thanks to Cliffy for taking care of everything. Winners were “A” Gross (No Surprise) Gonzo, Mickey Miller, Austin Barisoff, Christian Villabolos & Blind Draw at 209. “A” net finally breaking through (these guys play every tournament and rarely cash) were Mark Miller, Dave Spencer, Carl Martin, Dean Ritter & Mike Drew at 183. In the “B” winning the Gross winners were Matt Williams, Josh Dubon, Mikio Kelly, Andrew Pulido & Tom Montgomery at 220. “B” net winning a three way card off were Brian Dauk, Bob Schwing, Jim Fuchs, Mike Wilson & Monty Bisson at 189. In the “C” we had a HUGE UPSET for the gross as it was won by Scovey Doo, Paul White, Mark Waldschmidt, Lloyd Lee & Blind Draw at 231. In the Net it was the best “SANDBAGGING” Team around as the winners were Danny Martin, Cary Thomason, Henry Degraaff, Jeff Degraaff & Pingo Zamarripa. Jerry’s bagger list is getting bigger. As always all the results are on the website.

Coming up on SUNDAY, April 14th is the 1 Gross 2 net. I would like to thank Nicky for taking the signups for this event. This will be played from the WHITE Tees. Remember because we use 1 Gross ball in the format there is no gross payout in this tournament. Make sure you check your tee times online as sometimes your times change a little.

Coming up May 18 & 19 is one of our “Biggies” of the year the MEMBER-MEMBER. COST IS $125 and the signup slips will be in the pro shop and on the website. Real quick the format is Partner Best Ball on Saturday from the Blue Tees and you play at 90% of your 6 month LI. On Sunday it is total score of the 2 players minus full 6 month LI HCP. This day you play from the White Tees. There will be 4 Flights in this event, “A’, “B”, “C” & GAP 8. You may play with anyone you like but if your HCPs are 8 or more differential you will be put in the GAP 8 flight. There is NO GROSS PAYOUT in the “B”, “C”, & GAP 8 Flights in this tournament, but there will be 2 gross payouts in “A” flight. To offset the extra payout in “A” There will approximately 4 more teams in this flight than the other 3. The earlier you sign up the better chance you get for getting the preferred time on your choice of days.

YOU MUST HAVE PARTICIPATED IN 3 EVENTS IN THE LAST CALENDAR YEAR TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS EVENT. THIS INCLUDES NEW MEMBERS.

Special Events for The Pat Harris St. Patrick’s Day Waltz were shared between 46 players. Billy J was the only player to win in all three events, Skins, Closest to Pin #17 and the Irish Jig. Well done BJ!

Lloyd Lee (C Flight) hit it to 3’-3” on #17! Persimmon lives on! David Lee thought he had a C Flight KP at 23’-2”, however he was in B flight and came up short to Dean Booher’s 5th Place 23’-0”.

25 players completed the Irish Jig. Nice dancing! A Flight skin pot was split by 2 skins, B Flight had 3 skins and C Flight had 6 skins. Well done Sticks and Hacks!

April’s tournament is on Master’s Sunday. In keeping with recent tradition, Up Livy’s Creek will be part of the Special Events.

First place went to Dennis Tramer and his bunch of bandidos with a 115 net, maybe we should start playing from the blues from now on.
Second place went to Don Didier team with 119, it was a tied for third place with Nick Zamora's team and our team.
There were several big winners on the skins with Corey Henn and Brock Livesey with 150 points and 4 other players with 75 points ea.

Our next event is at Mile Square, Saturday June 1st., we'll be playing the players course, more info to come.

* The Board decided in March 2019 that the Hole-In-One Insurance would be paid completely in scrip. A $300 scrip card will be held in the Special Events Box and on the day of a HIO, the recipient (if in the Insurance Fund) will receive that scrip card and he can do whatever he wants with that; the balance of the Insurance Fund will be paid by a scrip card at the next meeting.

May is here, Spring has sprung! Our first major tournament of the year is this month, the 2-day Member-Member on the 18th and 19th. Thanks to all of you that participated in the April Quad Club Tournament at Skylinks. Also a big thanks to Mike Vaughn for putting it all together.
Apparently on April 25th, Honda filmed a commercial on the driving range at Eldo. It’s my understanding the “Helpful Honda” guys gave away a bunch of cash and prizes, hopefully some of you took advantage of the free giveaways.

Beginning at the May General Meeting, Director Terry Fulford will begin taking signups for the Club Championship. This will be played June 15th, 22nd and 23rd. There will be a Championship flight and 2-3 net flights depending on the number of players that sign up. The Partner Best Ball Blind Draw Tournament on June 15th, doubles as round 1 of the Club Championship. APRIL 2019 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 in the Big White Tent. The nearly all ecru pre-meeting dinner (as requested by and/or in honor of Livy) included macaroni and cheese, fettuccini alfredo, garlic bread, sausage and peppers, and cookies for desert.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 60 members in attendance (obviously the next Tournament is a mail-in sign up) including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Terry Fulford, Tom Conlisk, Don Marmion, Dennis Tramer and Life Member Bob Livingstone. New members Kenny Dobbs and David Bensen introduced themselves to the group and were given the New Member Spiel by Past President Terry Fulford.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. President Aichele discussed the procedure for turning in scorecards and special events at the conclusion of Tournament rounds, and reminded everyone of the need to be on time at the first tee. He also noted that Director Mike Montgomery and his new titanium knee were getting along just fine.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Jerry Leininger informed us that the Most Improved Golfer for the first quarter of 2019 was Mike Montgomery. If he can do this well with his old knee, who knows what’s in store with a new one.

Director Omar Diaz, filling in for Director Matt Huntington, announced the Golfers of the Month for March. Low Gross was Scott Paul with a 72, and low net was Mike Montgomery (this is turning into a Montgomery Newsletter) with an unreal 61. I doubt that the handicap committee is going to cut him much slack when he begs for special consideration because of the knee. Gross Golfer of the Year honors went to Sonny Nimkhum with a 71, while Net Golfer of the Year was Scott Lindman with a 69. The pre-meeting 9 Hole Tournament had 15 players, with Andrew Pulido, Dennis Tramer and Josh Dubon finishing first, second and third respectively. Omar also noted that he is collecting for the Hole in One Fund.

Director Terry Fulford, filling in for Director Don Didier, announced the Special Events for this month’s Tournament. We’ll have CTP on Hole #3, skins (gross for A and B Flights, Net for C Flight), and Up Livy’s Creek – net par or better on each of the 6 holes where water comes into play (#1,2,8,11,13,and 15).

Director Lucero summarized the results of the Costa Mesa Away Tournament, where 62 members participated – a very nice turnout. He also discussed our next Away Tournament – Saturday, June 1 at Mile Square. See Lucero to sign your team up.

Director Mike Vaughn announced the results of the pre-meeting Putting Tournament, which had 21 players participating. This Aces only event was won by Brett Holloway (not Brett’s first time in the winner’s circle). Mike noted that the Quad Club is scheduled for Skylinks on April 27. Good luck Team ELDO!

Director/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer discussed the results of the March Pat Harris Waltz, and thanked President Aichele for running the tournament in Dennis’ absence. The April Tournament is 1 Gross/2 Net, with approximately 180 members signed up. May is our Member/Member Tournament. There will be four flights – A, B, C and Gap 8 (teams whose members’ handicaps are more than 8 strokes apart). Don’t forget the Friday night Pairing Party and sign-up for the popular Horse Race. Sign-ups for Special Events must be done Friday night or Saturday before your round.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

The $50 Drawing winner was Kenny Dobbs. Statistically Kenny won’t win again for more than 33 years, but he does have the record for the shortest time as a member before winning the drawing.

Hi guys, Quad Club was held at Skylinks Saturday April 27, 2017. We did not put on the greatest of showings. Rec Park won the event by scoring 46.5. Lakewood took second with 39.5 with El Dorado tying with Skylinks for third with 32. We had a strong team, just didn’t get the job done. Only two of our players took 3 points (Mark Baldwin and Colin Boylan). Seabass Sturdevant, Sheldon Drantch and Jerry Hodge tied for the win in their group taking 2.5 points. We had a Skins game with Birdies cashing for Noah Busch, Colin Boylan (2), Daniel Kletke, Sebastian Sturdevant, and Joey Schilling (Birdie and Eagle). What hurt was (16) of the (25) players, or roughly two thirds of the team, amassing a total of 10.5 points.

The April Putting Contest was “Aces”. We had (21) players in this event! There was a 3-way tie for 3rd for $15 each with 3, and a 3-way tie for 2nd for $22 each with 4. The win with 6 Aces for $75 was claimed by Bret Holloway. The format for May will likely be different so be sure to get to the meeting early and bring your flat stick. Action will start at or about 5:15 and continue to NLT 6:45 pm on the south green.

On Sunday, April 14th we had the 1 Gross 2 Net. We had one of the lightest turnouts in awhile as we competed with the “Masters” and the LB Grand Prix. Hope all you guys who would rather watch golf than play it got up at 5:30 to watch it as all the times were moved up due to weather. I got to watch the whole thing then go play golf. Perfect Day!

Here’s your winners for the event in the “A” Flight shooting a sweet 20 under 196 were Scott Dietschak, Steve Cook, Dave Green, Mark Baldwin & Aaron Debreceni. Mark owes me a “tottie” for putting him in with the Retterath Bandits! In the “B” shooting a nice 17 under 199 was Josh Castlen, Corey Henn, Nick De Lia, Frank Molloy & Scott Chamberlain. In the “C” winning a 3 way cardoff at 14 under 202 was Kurt Hall, Emmet Hargrave, John Sanossian, Matt Osbourne & Joey Schilling. Congratulations boys on finally getting a win. As always all the results are posted on the website.

Coming up May 18 & 19 is one of our “Biggies” of the year the MEMBER-MEMBER. COST IS $125 and the signup slips will be in the pro shop and on the website. Real quick the format is Partner Best Ball on Saturday from the Blue Tees and you play at 90% of your 6 month LI. On Sunday it is total score of the 2 players minus full 6 month LI HCP. This day you play from the White Tees. There will be 4 Flights in this event, “A’, “B”, “C” & GAP 8. You may play with anyone you like but if your HCP’S are 8 or more differential you will be put in the GAP 8 flight. There is NO GROSS PAYOUT in the “B”, “C”, & GAP 8 Flights in this tournament, but there will be 2 gross payouts in “A” flight. To offset the extra payout in “A” There will approximately 4 more teams in this flight than the other 3. Signups are coming in hot & heavy so I will let you know right now there are no early Sunday times left, and maybe about 5 for Saturday.

Remember the Friday before the Tournament we have a pairings party in the Bar area from 5:30-7:30. Bing is kind enough to supply tasty tidbits, you can sign up for special events, create you Pigeon List to compete with specific teams & of course accumulate some points in our “Horse Race”. This last event is only open Friday night.

YOU MUST HAVE PARTICIPATED IN 3 EVENTS IN THE LAST CALENDAR YEAR TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS EVENT. THIS INCLUDES NEW MEMBERS.

At the May meeting I will be taking signups for the June 15th Partner Best Ball Blind Draw. You just sign up your fivesome and I will take care of the rest. This tournament will be played from the Blue Tees. This tournament also serves as the first round of our Club Championships. Look for the sign up slip on the website for the Club Championships as this is a separate event from the tournament.

April’s Special Events were dominated by Ryan Boyker, John Hasselman and Mikio Kelly in A Flight, Dennis Clark, Pete Douglas, Stan Faris and Lee McCullough in B Flight, while Don Russell left the rest of C Flight in his dust. Mikio Kelly was the only player in the field to hit on all three Special Events and led the field in points earned. Don Russell earned 3 skins with three net eagles.

Let's just start by saying the cold weather is almost gone, and summer is almost here and is our away tournament.

As we head to Mile Square Saturday June 1st. Unfortunately our first tee time starts at 9:30. We will be playing foursomes and our format will be the WALTZ (1-2-3) from the White Tees. Green fees and price fund will we $90 plus $10 skins, total of $100 per player.

After Mile Square our next tournament will be at Los Verdes on Saturday, July 27th. Start planing.

Summer officially starts in June, and it kicks right off with an away trip to Mile Square on the 1st. Then on June 15th we have the Partner Best Ball Blind Draw Tournament, which also doubles as Round 1 of the Club Championship. Rounds 2 and 3 will take place on June 22nd and 23rd. Director Terry Fulford is handling sign-ups for the Club Championship. Sign up forms are available on the website, and in the pro shop, and are always available at the General Meeting on Tuesday June 11th.

Thank you Dennis for putting together a great Member Member Tournament Weekend! It seemed to me everyone had a great time on Friday from the pairings party all the way through to the posting of the final results on Livy’s scoreboard Sunday afternoon. The weather was a little rough Sunday with some rain for the early groups, but they toughed it out and played hard. The course is in great shape and as always the whole El Dorado staff took great care of the Men’s Club.

Next month is the Red White Blue Tournament, always one of my favorites. Dennis will be taking sign-ups at the General Meeting Tuesday the 11th.
We are almost halfway through the year and I don’t think it’s too early to start thinking about the 2020 Board of Directors. The Board is always looking for new Directors and If you have an interest in joining please come and talk to any of us on the BOD to see how you can become involved. It’s very rewarding, lots of fun and one of the many things that’s makes our club top notch. See all of you meeting night.

MAY 2019 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 in the Big White Tent. The somewhat less than exciting pre-meeting dinner included salad, cheese enchiladas, beef fajitas, chips, salsa and desert. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 90 members in attendance including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Terry Fulford, Richard Scoville, Nick Zamora, Mike Montgomery, Don Marmion, Dennis Tramer and Life Member Bob Livingstone. New members Cory Kozaites and Jonathan Rymer introduced themselves to the group and were given the New Member Spiel by Past President Nick Zamora.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. President Aichele reiterated the procedure for turning in scorecards and special events at the conclusion of Tournament rounds, and reminded everyone of the need to be on time at the first tee. He also noted that the Club Championship is coming up in June, with the first round being the June Partner Blind Draw Best Ball and the second and third rounds scheduled for the following weekend (June 22/23).

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Jerry Leininger informed us that we are NOT to post our scores this weekend – the computer will do it for us.

Director Matt Huntington announced the Golfers of the Month for April. Low Net was Andrew Pulido with a 63, and Low Gross was Nick Mardesich with a 70. Gross Golfer of the Year Tournament honors went to Sonny Nimkhum with a 71, while Net Golfer of the Year was Scott Lindman with a 69. The pre-meeting 9 Hole Tournament had 24 players (maybe the most ever for this fun event) with a three way tie for first. Based on the tie-breaker, Matt determined that Josh Dubon finished third, and Andrew Pulido and Cary Thomason tied for first. Matt urged all future 9 Hole participants to get those scorecards turned in early.

Director Don Didier discussed Special Event winners for the April Tournament and then announced the Special Events for this month’s Member-Member Tournament. On Saturday we’ll have inside the flag on Hole #3, CTP on Hole #12, and skins. On Sunday we’ll have skins and the ever popular Honeypot – Net 69 or better.

Director Lucero discussed our next Away Tournament – Saturday, June 1 at Mile Square. Format is a 1-2-3 Waltz, and cost will be $100. See Lucero to sign your team up.

Director Mike Vaughn announced the results of the pre-meeting Putting Tournament. This Aces only event resulted in a tie for first with Mike Wilson and Brian Dauk taking top honors. Mike also announced the disappointing results of the Quad Club Tournament, and suggested that maybe Handicap Chairmen from the other three clubs should sit down and have “The Talk” with our esteemed Handicap Chairman Jerry Leininger.

Director Omar Diaz discussed the rules regarding relief from sprinkler heads within 2 club lengths of the green.

Director Nick Zamora announced that due to lack of interest he was temporarily suspending the pre-meeting Derbies.
Director Terry Fulford reminded everyone that you must have played in 3 tournaments during the previous 12 months to be eligible to play in the member-member.

Director Bob Livingstone commended Nick Mardesich and Mike Misener for their showing in the recent SCGA Publinks Champiuonship. Nick finished tied for ninth in the Championship Flight, and Mike finished fourth in the Net Flight. Good job guys.

Hi guys, pretty calm spring to get us ready for the summer.

The May Putting Contest was “Aces only”. We had (20) players in this event. 3rd Place was a nine-way tie with (2) Aces for 5 points each. 2nd Place with (3) Aces awarded 35 points to Omar Diaz. The winners with (4) Aces were Mike Wilson and Brian Dauk who collected 50 points each. The 50 point stipend from the Club helps to provide these nice prizes. The format next month will be shaken up a little so be sure to get to the meeting early and bring your flat stick. Action will start at or about 5:15 and continue to 6:45 pm on the south green.

Entries for the Flights Championship will be taken starting meeting night, Tuesday June 11. Entry remains at $20 per player. All entry money will create the prize pool which will be returned.

On May 18 & 19 the MEMBER-MEMBER went off pretty well even though we had a little rain Sunday morning. Saturday the scores were a little higher than normal as the course was playing tough with that brutal rough Mark had going on. Sunday was a little better as we played “pick n lick” since it was raining. Probably could have played em down but when I had to make the call it was raining pretty good so I played it safe.

Winning the “A” Gross was Nick Mardesich & Jeff Thomas with a nice 2 under 214. Congratulations gentlemen. Here are the Flight Net Winners “A” Bill Hasselman & Brent Huntington at 12 under 204 -- “B” Steve Cook & Dave Green ( No surprise these BAGGERS won) at 13 under 203 – “C” Danny Martin & Cary Thomason (Take note Jerry these BAGGERS win again) at 3 under 213 – GAP 8 Seabass Sturdevant & Chris Plumridge at 17 under 199. As always all the results are on the website. Winning special event numbers 1st #79 – 2nd #46 -- 3rd #15.

Coming up Saturday June 15th Partner Best Ball Blind Draw. We will have 5 Flights in this event paying Gross & net in all Flights. So if your a chop like me hope you draw a low player as you very well could win the Gross. This tournament will be played from the COMBO TEES. This tournament also serves as the first round of our Club Championships. Look for the sign up slip on the website or in the Pro Shop for the Club Championships as this is a separate event from the tournament. DO NOT PAY ME FOR BOTH. I GET $60 AND MR. TINMAN FULFORD GETS $100. If you are not in the Tournament and you want to play in the Club Championships let me know and I will get you in the Tournament.

At the June meeting I will be taking signups for the Saturday July 13th Red, White & Blue Tournament. In this tournament we will play 6 holes from the Blue Tees & count 2 balls on those holes, 6 holes from the White Tees & count 3 balls on those holes, and 6 holes from the Red Tees & count 4 balls on those holes. The tees may not be in sequence so be aware as you could have 2 Red Tees in a row. This is a fun day so everyone come on out and have a good time.

Member-Member Special Events were a great success for several players and dominated by Team Sturdevent-Plumridge.

Sweeps
We had a few teams that were not eligible for Sweeps because one of their players failed to enter. Very costly for the Dobbs-Tighe team as they would have won Saturday C Flight Sweeps. The Faris-Serge team thought they could enter Sweeps for Sunday only, which was not an option. They would have won Saturday Gap 8 Sweeps had they entered!
Team Sturdevent-Plumridge won Saturday and Sunday Gap 8 Sweeps. I’m sure their points will go towards a new and more extravagant wardrobe!
Team Cook-Green shot an impressive 11 under net in Sunday’s aggregate round. I’m sure they caught the attention of the Handicap Chairman! Team Sturdevent-Plumridge with a 9 under net and team Degraaf-Degraaf with an 8 under net in the aggregate round will also catch some attention. Well done fellas!

Special Events

Saturday’s Polie on #3 provided quite a challenge. Three players in A flight and Chris Plumridge in C Flight were up to the challenge. B Flight didn’t produce a winner on Saturday so it was carried over to Sunday when Kerry Bryan was the only player to accomplish the feat, on a much more difficult hole position I might add. Nice shot!

Saturday’s Closest to Pin on #12 had Dave Rubin hit it close (5’-10”) in A Flight, Roger Marmion (7’-1”) in B Flight and Eric Sasaki (2’-6”) in C Flight. Way to show up A Flight Eric! Only 4 players in C Flight recorded shots so those points were split four ways.

Saturday Gross Skins included eagles by Branden Tighe #7 and Pingo Zamarripa #18. Well done!

Sunday’s Honey Pot was split by 21 players who shot net 69 or better. Guess the white tees are pretty easy!

El Dorado Men’s Golf Club may have been elevated to a new level this year by Sonny Nimkhum our 2019 Club Champion. He shot an incredible 17 under par gross setting a very high bar that even he might have trouble matching next year. Corey Smith, the A-Flight Net Champion and Lee McCullough, B-Flight Net Champion also deserve a round of applause for playing great golf.

Director Mike Vaughn is now taking signups for the Flights Championship. This is a great way to get your feet wet in the head to head competition of match play. And for match play veterans to stay tuned-up in preparation for 2020 Team Play.

Entertainment Chairman, Prisciliano Lucero, will be taking signups during this month’s General Meeting for the July 27th Los Verdes away trip.
I will start taking signups this month for the Senior Club Championship. It will be held August 24th and 25th and the cost will be $105 dollars. To qualify for the Senior C.C., you must be a 50 years old prior to August 24th 2019

Communications Chairman Mike Montgomery will be selling Long Beach Open Pro-Am raffle tickets at the July General Meeting. Following the meeting, 5 winning tickets will be drawn. The LB Open Pro-Am takes place Wednesday, August 7th at El Dorado.

JUNE 2019 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 in the Big White Tent. The comfort food” pre-meeting dinner included salad, meat loaf, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, and cookies for desert. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 120 members in attendance including Past Presidents Terry Fulford, Nick Zamora, Mike Montgomery, Tom Retterath, Dennis Tramer and Life Member Bob Livingstone. There were no new members present.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. President Aichele noted that Handicap Director/SCGA Representative Jerry Leininger is under the weather and can use all of our prayers and good wishes. There’s a card to sign for Jerry that will also be available Saturday at the Tournament. Cliff also specifically noted and commended several members who have recently done well in local/SCGA events.

We’re sponsoring 6 spots this year. Mike also reported that based on discussions with Course General Manager Sun Ahn the course will, as a trial, leave a “cushion” between the public playing early and our first group on Tournament days.

Director Don Didier discussed Special Event winners for the May Tournament and then announced the Special Events for this month’s Partner Blind Draw Best Ball Tournament. We’ll have Net Skins by flight; net par or better on each of the first three and last three holes; and CTP on #17.

Director Lucero lamented the fact that we only had 40 players – our lowest turn-out for an Away Tournament in a long time – at Mile Square. He also discussed our next Away Tournament – Saturday, July 27 at Los Verdes. See Lucero to sign your team up.

Director Mike Vaughn announced the results of the pre-meeting Putting Tournament. With 28 participants, this was one of the largest fields ever. There was a 6-way tie for second, with President Cliff Aichele the surprise first place winner. Mike also noted that the Flights Championship would begin on August 1.

Director Omar Diaz discussed the importance of “knowing what the score is” at all times, especially before picking up your ball in a match play competition. He also noted that you need to putt everything out both this weekend and next if you’re in the Club Championship. Filling in for Director Matt Huntington, Omar announced the results of the pre-meeting 9 Hole Tournament. Finishing third (out of 18 participants) was Andrew Pulido, with Corey Henn taking second and “I never win anything” Dennis Tramer a very surprising first.

President Aichele, also filling in for Matt Huntington, announced the Golfers of the Month for May. Low Gross honors went to John Hasselman with a 68, while Low Net was William “Billy J” Johnson with a 62. I foresee a handicap adjustment for Mr. Johnson. Cliff also commended John Wong on his performance in the Long Beach City Senior Championship.

Director/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer discussed the results of the May Member-Member Tournament. This month is the Partner Best Ball Blind Draw Tournament. We’ll have 5 Flights and pay gross and net in each flight.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: Mike Vaughn noted that several sets of clubs have recently been stolen from cars in the parking lot. Forewarned is forearmed, guys.

Hi guys, we are having some great weather. We are officially into the summer so let the good times roll!

The June Putting Contest was “Count them All”. We had (28) players in this event. 2nd Place was a seven-way tie with 2-under (16) for 15 points. The winner was Cliff Aichele nailing 85 points? The format next month will be shaken up a little so be sure to get to the meeting early and bring your flat stick. Action will start at or about 5:15 and end at NLT 6:45 pm on the south green. If you want a shot it is up to you to arrive in time to make your rounds.

Entries for the Flights Championship are being taken. 36 places have been secured. Your $20 entry fee is due to be ASAP. You can place $20 or a $20 check made payable to “Mike Vaughn” in the Men’s Club drawer in the Pro-Shop in an envelope noted Flights entry / Mike Vaughn. You can mail the check to my home address noted on the mass email sent to all prospective participants. Also, you can pay me on meeting night, Tuesday July 9 or at the tournament Saturday July 13. All entry money will create the prize pool.

On Saturday June 15th we had the Partner Best Ball Blind Draw. First off, I want to congratulate Larry Erps (one of Scoveydoo’s bandits) on shooting what I am sure is a career round of 81. You take off his 25 HCP and that is a net 48. WOW!!!

Now on to the results.

Flight 1 winning the Gross was Mel Collins/Sonny Nimkhum with a 64 and winning the Net was Ryan Boyker/Michael Opera with a Net 62. Pretty amazing that Ryan won as I played with him and he still did well even though he had to stand around and watch me hit the ball 105 times. I did reach my goal though as I got my second shot past their drives (Boyker, Diaz, Rubin, & Epson on 11 of the 14 holes.

In Flight 2 winning the Gross was Brian Gonzales/Shaun Ferguson with a 69. Hmm, didn’t Gonzo shoot 69. Shaun got the lucky draw. In the Net it was Nick Zamora/Chris McMonigle with a fine 59. Chris must have shot well.

In Flight 3 winning the Gross was Charlie Kerr/Greg Puga with a 68. Once again another good draw as this team would have finished 18th Net. Winning the Net was Mark Bernardini/John Suttie with a nice net 60.

In Flight 4 the winners of the gross I predicted before we played as it was Tim Man Fulford/Bret Holloway with a 72. I’m sure Bret shot 72. Tin Man shot the same score as me 105 and he won the gross and I came in LAST PLACE. Like I keep saying, it depends on the draw! Winning the Net was Wayne Brown/Doc Clark with a fine 59.

In Flight 5 winning the Gross was Mr. Net 56 Larry Erps/Tom Turner with a 70. What is unbelievable about this team is they shot 48 Net which means Tom Turner helped 8 shots, WOW! Winning the Net has got to be the biggest upset of the year as it was Mike Vaughn/Jeff Degraaff with a net 60. Jeff must have had a career round. As always all the results are on the website so if you played well and didn’t cash you can see who dragged you down.

On July 13th we are playing our Red-White-Blue Tournament. The holes are not in sequence but we will play 6 holes from those 3 tees. Scoring is 2 BB on the Blue Holes, 3BB on the White holes & 4BB on the Red holes. Last year the scores were really low in this Tourney, so once again this will be a NON POSTABLE ROUND. I’M SURE THIS WILL GET ALL THE BAGGERS TO PLAY! I can use some singles so if you want to play send me an email.

At the July meeting I will be taking signups for the Saturday August 17th 3 BEST BALL tournament.

There was some pretty significant Special Event points earners in our June Blind Draw Tournament. Chris Mcmonigle led the way being the only player in the field hitting all three challenges. Well done Chris!

Both A Flight and B Flight had some nice skins while C Flight spread the points between 9 players.

The 1st 3/Last 3 challenge was shared by 9 players in A and C Flights. B Flight was skunked! Come on man!

Ryan Boyker, Al Ostberg and John Frixione lead their respective Flights with Closest to Pin on #17. Ryan hit it to 5 feet, Al was 9 feet and John 6’-8”. Nice shots fellas!

the cost to play is $80 plus $10 for skins, we will be playing from the white tees, due to the old guys that keeps showing up and the high handicappers.
Our format is reverse Waltz 3-2-1, we have not done that one in a while.

The rich get richer! Congrats to Club Champion Sonny Ninkhum who is the Club's most improved player for the 2nd Quarter of 2019. Sonny was a 1.4 handicap on April 1 and on July 1 he had dropped to a +0.8 for an improvement factor of 1.196. Giving Sonny a run for his money were Larry Lipman (from a 15.0 to a 11.8; improvement factor 1.174) and Sammy Krishna (from 9.2 to a 6.1; improvement factor 1.171). Sonny can get a check for $50 from Treasurer Bob Livingstone at the next meeting.

Along with being able to get your Index and Course Handicap online or thru the Club's website on your phone, a printout will be placed in the glass case near the door to the bar/restaurant in the patio at the course around the 1st and 16th of each month. This printout will show each member's name, current index and course handicap from the Blue, Combo or White tees.

Hello El Dorado Men’s Club! I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful So Cal summer we are having. The weather has been perfect for golf and you should be taking advantage of it.

The July Red, White, Blue tournament was a blast, as always. It’s so much fun to play a different course setup. Jerry Hodge took advantage of it, making a Hole-In One on hole #9!! Congrats Jerry. This also means anyone who wants Hole-In-One insurance will have to anti-up again. Check in with Nick Z at the next meeting.

I’m still taking signups for the Senior Club Championship being played Saturday and Sunday, August 24th & 25th. Signup slips are available on the website and in the pro shop. Cost is $105 and you have to be 50 plus years old to play. Slips can be turned in to the drawer in the pro shop before meeting night.

Our own Mel Collins won the San Diego City Men’s Senior Am. Congratulation, way to go Mel!

The final 2 days of the Long Beach Open will be played at El Dorado on Saturday and Sunday, August 10th and 11th. If you have never come out to see how the Pros play ElDO, make it a point because it’s something to see.

JULY 2019 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 in the Big White Tent. The Italian themed pre-meeting dinner included salad, spaghetti, ravioli, sliced chicken breasts, marinara sauce, Parmesan cheese, and cookies for desert. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 115 members in attendance including Past Presidents Terry Fulford, Nick Zamora, Mike Montgomery, Tom Conlisk, Don Marmion, Dennis Tramer and Life Member Bob Livingstone. New members Derek Goodwin, Ian Thomason (whom the Board accepted as a new member in spite of some questionable family ties), and Tony Sanzone were given the New Member Spiel by Past President Zamora.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. President Aichele reminded us that Handicap Director/SCGA Representative Jerry Leininger is under the weather and can use all of our prayers and good wishes. Cliff noted that he would be running the Men’s Senior Championship on August 24-25 and that entry forms are available in the Pro Shop and on-line. Cliff then called on Livy who awarded the Most Improved Golfer Award for the second quarter to Sonny Nimkhum, whose handicap went from a -1 to a +1. Wow! Bob also wished good luck to Nick Mardesich in the upcoming SCGA Amateur Championship.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Mike Montgomery reminded us that the Long Beach Golf Festival is coming up soon (August 8-9), with the Pro-Am on August 7. Mike is selling raffle tickets for spots in this fun event, with the drawing to be held after the meeting is adjourned. Mike also noted that both Jerry Leininger and Greg O’Brien are dealing with health issues and could certainly use our good thoughts and prayers.

Director Zamora, filling in for Lucero, discussed our next Away Tournament – Saturday, July 27 at Los Verdes. The format will be a Reverse Waltz and the cost is $90.

Aces only was the format this week .First place went to Nick Mardesich, with Monty Bisson, Corey Smith and Colin Boylan tied for second. Mike also noted that the Flights Championship would begin on August 1 and that your $20 entry fee needed to be paid by July 20.

Director Omar Diaz discussed new Penalty Area rules (grounding your club, practice area swings, etc.) and the “virtual certainty“ rule regarding lost balls.

Director Matt Huntington announced the Golfers of the Month for June. Low Gross honors went to Sonny Nimkhum with a really nice 65, while Low Net honors went to Larry Erps with an incredible 56. That’s not a typo – 56!! Larry-we all want to know you secret. Larry’s mailbox will soon be overflowing with letters from the Handicap Committee. Matt announced the winners of the 9 HoleTournament. Tied for first were Jeff DeGraaff and Danny Martin, with Greg Ramsey taking third and Dennis (I never win anything) Tramer taking fourth.

Director Terry Fulford announced the results of the Club Championship. Winner of the Championship Flight was Sonny Nimkhum (this is starting to look like the Sonny Nimkhum Newsletter), with Corey Smith taking the A Flight and Lee McCullough taking the B Flight. Congratulations to you three gentlemen for a job well done.

Director/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer discussed the results of the June Blind Draw Tournament, emphasizing and illustrating how a lucky draw can overcome horrible play. This month is the Red-White-Blue Tournament. We’ll play 6 holes from the red tees, 6 holes from the white tees, and 6 holes from the blue tees, and record 4 scores on the red holes, 3 scores on the white holes, and 2 scores on the blue holes. The August Tournament is 3 Best Balls, and will play from the Combo tees.

New Business: There was no New Business.

The July Putting Contest was “Aces Only”. We had (23) players in this event. There was a four-way tie for 3rd with 3-Aces for $15 each. There was a three-way tie for 2nd with 4-Aces for $25 each. The winner with 5-Aces was Nick Mardesich for $60. The format next month is yet TBD. Be sure to get to the meeting early and bring your putter. Action will start at or about 5:15 and end at NLT 6:45 pm on the south green. It is great to see so many of you participate. As noted before I hate denying anyone a chance due to time until meeting so it is up to you to arrive early enough to make your rounds.

The Flights Championship is set to begin August 1. We have five (5) full Brackets, 80 players. Flights tee times have been reserved through Championship Saturday November 9. Players have been sent the Brackets and are making their reservations. Players will be kept updated through group emails. This is a great tournament as it is all up to you playing heads up against your opponent.

Heartiest of congratulations to Jerry Hodge for his ACE on Hole #9 in the Red-White-Blue Tournament. There was $910 in the Insurance Fund and Jerry donated 25% to the Long Beach Junior Golf Association. Classy move, Jerry!

It is therefore time to create a new Insurance Fund. You can sign up at the meeting (I will have a sheet to mark off your name if I get the $5 in person) or you may put $5 in an envelope and put your FULL name and HOLE IN ONE on the outside of the envelope, and place it in the Men's Club right-hand drawer. At the August tournament, there will also be a sign-up sheet if you bring $5 in person, or you may place an envelope in the right-hand drawer of the Men's Club Cabinet in the Golf Shop.

On July 13th we played our Red-White-Blue Tournament. First off I would like to congratulate Jerry Hodge on his ACE on #9. The course was set up the same as last year but the scores were a little higher this year. I blame that on our “Super” Marc Lilleberg for having the Rough so stinking high and thick. Good job Marc!

Here’s all the BAGGERS that won in this “Non-Postable Tournament”. In “A” Flight winning the Gross at 8 under 207 was Gonzo, Mickey Miller, Adam Horodyski, Chris Villalobos & Jimmy “The Kid” Byers. In the net winning by 1 shot with a 25 under 190 were the perennial winners led by BAGGER Bret Holloway, John Wong, Sammy Krishna, Doug Jones & John Suttie. In the “B” Winning the Gross (also net winners) with a Gross 222 7 over par was Keith Pacheco, ken Beaulieu, Mike Appy, Mark Bernardini & John Yeakel. Nice shooting boys, the only way I can figure you guys won gross is that John’s son is giving you lessons. Taking the “B” Net by default with a nice 29 under 186 was Wes McCollum, Kenny Dobbs, Colin Boylin, Branden Tighe & John Rogers. In the “C” winning the Gross with a 29 over 244 was Steve Cook, Wayne Brown, Scott Dietschak, Eric Lishka & John Russell. Winning the net with a great net of 31 under par 184 was ACE Hodge, Charlie Kerr, john Lynch, Jon Monat & Jerry Johnson. Last but not least is the Flight I have been trying to avoid all year, The Blind Draw Flight. Well, for this Tournament it came in with a bang as we had 10 Teams in this Flight and the winners at 31 under 184 were Jesse Duncan, Kevin Bussey, Connor Burke & John Frixione.

Coming up August 17th is the 3 Best Ball Tournament. Looks like we will have over 200 golfers for this one so PLEASE KEEP UP PACE OF PLAY! In July you guys were great at this as after sending off 39 groups we were only 8 minutes behind. GREAT JOB!!!! For this Tournament I will bite the Bullet and we will play the Combo Tees. GENTLEMEN PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE NOT SHOWING BY FRIDAY 6:00 AS IF YOU DO THERE ARE SOME THINGS I CAN DO TO FILL HOLES. I HATE BLIND DRAWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coming up September 15 & 16 is our PARTNER-PARTNER TOURNAMENT. No restrictions on this one so every member is welcome to play. Sign up sheet is on the website and I will have some in the Pro Shop by next Tuesday and also at the meeting. COST IS $125. For all you new Members and OLD GUYS LIKE CONLISK, here is how the handicapping works for this event. On Saturday we play a 2 Man Scramble on the front 9 and you must use each players drive 4 times. For these 9 holes we use the Tramer handicapping system which works like this. You take ½ of the lower players HCP, we then adjust by whatever the differential is between the 2 like this 0-3=0 /4-6 = .5 / 7-9 = 1 / 10-12 = 1.5 / 13-15 = 2 / 16-18 = 2.5 / 19-22 = 3 / 23-25 =3.5 / 26 & above = 4. For the back 9 it is very simple you add your total HCP together and divide by 4.

EXAMPLE TEAM IS BOB LIVINGSTONE A 6 HCP AND DENNIS TRAMER A 24 HCP
FOR THE FRONT 9 WE TAKE ½ OF LIVY’S HCP WHICH IS 3. WE WOULD THEN TAKE THE DIFFERENTIAL BETWEEN MINE AND LIVY’S, WHICH IS 18 AND GO TO THE CHART WHICH IS 2.5 OUR HCP FOR THE FRONT IS 5.5. ON THIS DAY WE PLAY THE BLUE TEES

On Sunday it is pretty straight forward. We play Best Ball on the front and “count em all” on the back. We will play from the White tees at 90% of our HCP this day. I’m looking for a low handicapper who would like to hit shots he never hit before!!

There were no Gross Skins in A Flight. All Birdies were cut and no eagles were recorded. A Flight Skin Pot will carry over to the August Tournament. B Flight had Skin Pot split between 4 players and C Flight had 3 players earning some nice points.

The Red-White Blue event was shared by 16 players. Nice to see B Flight players in the mix thanks to Dwight Summers and Dave Hasselman.

Holy macaroni! It’s really starting to heat up, in more ways than one: Matches are well under way for the Match Play Championship; The 2-day Partner-Partner Tournament is coming up September 14th and 15th. FYI-This tournament is open to all current members, so get signed up TODAY.

Congratulations to Jeff Thomas, our 2019 Senior Club Champion, winning in a playoff vs. Jim Fuchs. Somehow, I was able make the short putts on Sunday to win the A Flight and Sheldon Drantch took the B Flight win.

Check out the results for the August, 3-Best Ball tournament. Those who stepped up for the Middle 6 holes were awarded handsomely. I guess those holes played extra tough that day?

Our annual Weekender is coming up October 25, 26, and 27. This year, we’re heading to my favorite Weekender destination, San Vicente Resort and Golf Course in Ramona. This is a park-the-car-for-the-weekend type of place. The bar, the restaurant, and your room are all within a wedge shot of the first tee. But, if you’d rather venture out, Barona Resort and Casino is a short 15 minutes away. Check in with Lucero to secure your spot. This one normally fills up quickly.

Cliff noted that he would be running the Men’s Senior Championship on August 24-25 and that entry forms are available in the Pro Shop and on-line. Cliff congratulated Jerry Hodge on his ACE in the July tournament and thanked him for hosting beers for everyone during the meeting. Cliff announced that Special Assignments Director Terry Fulford would serve as the Nominating Chairman for this year’s election. If anyone is interested in running for a Board position or serving as an appointed member, contact Terry or ask any Director for more information. Finally, Cliff congratulated Mel Collins for his victory in the San Diego Senior City Championship last month.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Don Didier discussed Special Event winners for the July Tournament and then announced the Special Events for this month’s Fivesome-Three-Best-Ball Tournament. We’ll have Gross Skins by flight (there will be a $590 carryover in A Flight); net par or better on the middle six and closest to the hole on #16, a hole Dennis Tramer can reach in two shots (at least in theory).

Director Lucero, recapped the Los Verdes Away Trip and reminded people to sign up for Lakewood on August 30. He was able to strongarm the County to allow us to start at 8AM rather than 10AM. The San Vicente Weekender will be the last full weekend of October. The Club adds $1,000 to the prize fund and hospitality. There are 29 rooms available at the Lodge. Price is still TBD but contact Lucero to lock in your space!

Director Mike Vaughn announced the results of the pre-meeting Putting Tournament. Total Score was the format. Six gentlemen shot 1-under to get $10 and 3 people shared $33 for first place at 2-under. Mike still has spots for Flight Matches, you need only to email him to reserve one of them.
Director Matt Huntington announced the Golfers of the Month for July. Low Gross honors went to Gene Milner at 70 (card off with Nick Delia) and the Net went to none other than our Fearless Leader, Cliff “Fluffy” Aichele with a net 63 (that was a gross 72!). Matt also announced the winners of the 9-Hole Tournament. There were 22 total players (great turnout!) and four guys cashed with Colin Boylan’s 33-4=29 winning in a run away.

Director/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer complimented everyone for staying within 8 minutes of the assigned tee times (with 5 hours of tee times!) and then listed the gross and net winners in each flight. This month’s three-best-ball event will be from the combos. Next month is the fun Partner-Partner event with a 9-hole scramble and 9-hole alternate shot on Satruday and 9-hole better ball and 9-hole aggregate on Sunday. Partner-Partner will be from the Blues on Satruday and Whites on Sunday, and Sunday will be played at 90% of handicap.

Secretary Pro Tem Livy announced that Secretary/Membership Chairman Rob Kuehn was recuperating from knee surgery, so he would be reading the names for the member drawing for $50. The first name was…Rob Kuehn. Just kidding! It took 28 names (including Tom Conlisk who left the meeting early) to get to winner John Yaekel.

Hi guys,

Even though it seems to be warming up we have had a cool summer. The course has been in good condition since the LB Open. Credit goes to our course Superintendent.

The August Putting Contest was a “Count them All”. We had (21) players. There was a 6-way tie for 2nd with 1-Under 17 between Matt Williams, Colin Boylan, Mike Peterson, Steve Sterry, Scott Dietschak and Bret Holloway for 10 bones each. We had a 3-way tie for 1st with 2-Under 16 between Craig McDonald, Mike Wilson and Tim Mincarelli for 32 bones each. The format next month is yet TBD. Be sure to get to the meeting early and bring your putter. Action will start at or about 5:15 and end absolutely NLT 6:45 pm on the south green. It is great to see so many of you participate.

The Flights Championships are underway. Round 1 is all but wrapped up. As noted in July we have five (5) full Brackets that will be down to 40 players in September. Reserved Saturday and Sunday Flights tee times are set for the Flights through Championship Saturday. Players are kept updated through group emails. This is a great tournament as it is all up to you playing heads up against your opponent. The earlier in the month you play your match the easier it is to manage.

On August 17th we had a beautiful day for golf and a nice turnout. We had a few no shows and once again if you aren’t going to make it let me know by Friday. I almost always have guys on a stand by list I can call, but if JUST YOU DON’T SHOW UP my hands are tied.

Now for the results, taking the “A” Gross was Mike Petersen, Steve Sterry, Nick Mardesich, Jeff Thomas & Jimmy (The Kid) Byers with a respectable 6 under 210. Winning the net on a card off with a 23 under 193 was the “Retterath Bandit’s led by Tommy, Rich Boyker, Glenn Sparks, Greg Andersen & Jim Olivier. LIVY SAID IT WAS ZIGGY’S FAULT THEY LOST!

In the “B” the Gross winners were Kerry Bryan, Scott Paul, Mike Collins, Jim McCullough & Dana Pagett with a nice 12 over 228. For the net we had another card off and winning with a 19 under 197 were Don Didier, Brad Wilcox, Tony Glorioso, Mike Miller & Jay Fleming. Tony said his back was killing him after this round.

For the “C” or as it is commonly known “THE CHOP FLIGHT” WINNING THE Gross at 22 over 238 were Kingfish Conlisk, Don Russell, Dennis Clark, Frank Adinolfi & Pete Douglas. THEY WOULD HAVE WON THE NET BY 12 SHOTS! But winning the Net with a nice 20 under 196 were Brett Latzsch, David Lee, Dean Booher, Daniel Ahearn & Lloyd Lee. WOW, wherever I put Lloyd he cashes every Tournament.

And now MY FAVORITE FLIGHT The Blind Draw winners at 16 under 200 were Bing Smith, Clark Sanders, Alex Gonzales, Jerry Johnson. As always the complete results are on the website.

Coming up September 14 & 15 is our PARTNER-PARTNER TOURNAMENT. No restrictions on this one so every member is welcome to play. Sign up sheet is on the website and I will have some in the Pro Shop and also at the meeting. COST IS $125. For all you new Members and old guys like Conlisk here is how the handicapping works for this event. On Saturday we play a 2 Man Scramble on the front 9 and you must use each players drive 4 times. For these 9 holes we use the Tramer handicapping system which works like this. You take ½ of the lower players HCP, we then adjust by whatever the differential is between the 2 like this 0-3=0 /4-6 = .5 / 7-9 = 1 / 10-12 = 1.5 / 13-15 = 2 / 16-18 = 2.5 / 19-22 = 3 / 23-25 =3.5 / 26 & above = 4.
For the back 9 we play an alternate shot and it is very simple you add your total HCP together and divide by 4.

EXAMPLE TEAM IS BOB LIVINGSTONE A 5 HCP AND DENNIS TRAMER A 24 HCP
FOR THE FRONT 9 WE TAKE ½ OF LIVY’S HCP WHICH IS 2.5. WE WOULD THEN TAKE THE DIFFERENTIAL BETWEEN MINE AND LIVY’S, WHICH IS 18 AND GO TO THE CHART WHICH IS 3 OUR HCP FOR THE FRONT IS 5.5.

For the back it would be 7.25 So Livy and me would have a HCP. For the day of 12.75. ON THIS DAY WE PLAY THE BLUE TEES.

On Sunday it is pretty straight forward. We play Best Ball on the front and “count em all” on the back. We will play from the White tees at 90% of our HCP this day.

At the September 10th meeting I will be taking sign ups for the “Dreaded Orange Ball” Tournament. This is a fun day as you watch your Buddies asshole puckering when he has that Orange Ball in front of him. For you new Members and old guys like Don Russell the scoring is on this you must use the Orange Ball and 2 other scores each hole. The Orange Ball is designated by the Scorecard order so Player 1 would get it on 1,6,11,16 and so on. MAKE SURE WHEN YOU TURN IN YOUR SLIPS THAT YOU HAVE THE ORDER YOU WANT ON THE SCORECARD. NO CHANGES TOURNAMENT DAY.

Special Event Points were spread between 38 Players with Frank Adinolfi in C Flight leading the way. Great Playing Frank!

A Flight had some nice Skin points with 6 Players splitting the carried over Skin Pot. Alex Gonzales was the only player in A Flight to hit all three events.

B Flight had Dennis Clark making an ACE on #3. Nice Shot, but a big whiff on not having Hole In One insurance! Left a lot of players thirsty! B Flight Players dominated the Middle Six with 8 players accomplishing the event. A&C Flights had 3 each.

C Flight’s Frank Adinolfi hit all three events including splitting the C Flight Skin Pot with Mark Felling and hitting his second shot on #16 to 2’-2”, best in the field!

Greetings fellow golfers and weekend buddies.

Thank you to all the guys that showed up at Lakewood this weekend, we had a major bail out of players, they realize it was a long weekend. We had our lowest participation at Lakewood ever. I'm a little hurt.

Moving on to bigger and better things, our last away trip of the year will be the San Vicente Weekender on October 25 to 27, the information and sign-up sheet is on the website. We only have 27 rooms available and half are already booked, if you plan to attend you need to let me know ASAP.

Two golfers sharing a room is $179 plus $75 tournament fee, total cost is $259 per player, if golfer 2 is your wife the cost is $433 for both. One golfer in a room cost is $276 plus $75 tournament fee $351 total.

For anyone not staying at the lodge, that will pay for your own golf Saturday and Sunday with is approximately $70, plus the $75 tournament fee.

The Friday practice round is at the Vineyards in Escondido, the price for this additional round is $37 plus $20 for tournament fee and is NOT included on the San Vicente package.

I need deposits by September 25 if there are 2 members per room deposit is $225, if only one player per room deposit is $150. Anybody not staying at the lodge is $75 per player.

It’s with a heavy heart that I start off this month’s newsletter by saying farewell to Jerry Leininger. Jerry passed away September 17th. As a long time Board Member and past President, Jerry’s first priority was always to look out for the Club’s best interest. He was the kind of man who never said “No” when asked to help. It was not unusual on tournament days, for him to be at the course before sun up and be the last to leave at the end of the day. He was an outstanding Handicap Chairman, and it will be difficult to find anyone with the same dedication and commitment to take over his post. Jerry helped me, personally, many times to get ready for tournaments and was always eager to lend me a hand. Most of all Jerry was a friend and will be missed by many.

The Course and the Club will host an informal reception with appetizers and no-host bar from 4:30 - 6:30 PM on the night of the General Meeting. There will not be a formal program, but the microphone will be available for anyone interested in saying anything about Jerry.

Dennis did another great job putting together the 2 day September Partner-Partner tournament. Superintendent Marc Lilleberg and his partner, Mel Collins, did very well this year. Marc seems to have done well over the last several years at this tournament. Hmmm I wonder if it’s the course set-up. Just kidding Marc does a great job keeping El Do in tip-top shape.

Don’t forget, Board of Directors elections are coming up in November. For those of you interested in becoming a Board Member, nominations will be taken from the floor at the Tuesday, October 8th General Meeting. The BOD needs more young blood and that could be you!

Unfortunately I won’t be at the October General Meeting, but not to worry, VP Dennis will be filling in for me. I’ll catch up with all of you at the Orange Ball Tournament.

SEPTEMBER 2019 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 in the Big White Tent. The Italian themed pre-meeting dinner included salad, garlic bread, pasta, sausage and peppers, marinara sauce, Parmesan cheese, and cookies for desert. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Cliff Aichele who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 95 members in attendance including Past Presidents Terry Fulford, Nick Zamora, Mike Montgomery, Tom Conlisk, Don Marmion, Dennis Tramer, Richard Scoville, Tom Retterath and Life Member Bob Livingstone. There were no new members present.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. President Aichele announced the results of the Senior Club Championship. Winning the Championship Flight was Jeff Thomas, while the A Flight went to El Jefe himself President Aichele and the B Flight to Sheldon Drantch. Congratulations to all you geezers.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Bob Livingstone (filing in for Jerry Leininger, who is still dealing with serious health issues) informed everyone to email Livy if you have any handicap issues. He also updated us on the status of the two man teams that the Club sent to the SCGA Four Ball Qualifying – Steve Cook/Dave Green and Bill Hasselman/Brent Huntington. Neither team will be proceeding to the next round.

Director Mike Montgomery once again strongly reminded everyone to BE READY when you are next on the tee. Remember which group you follow and be on the tee as soon as that group tees off.

Director Don Didier announced Special Event winners for the August Tournament and then announced the Special Events for this month’s Partner/Partner Tournament. Saturday will be Par 3’s: CTP on #9 and 12, and In the circle (A and B Flights, On the green C Flight) on # 3 and 17. Sunday will be Gross Skins and Honey Pot – net 69 or better. Special Events and Sweeps must be entered on Saturday for the two days.

Director Zamora, filling in for Lucero, discussed our next Away Tournament – The Weekender October 25-27 at San Vicente. Only a few rooms left so sign up soon if you’re interested. It’s a great place and a very nice course. Also see Nick if you haven’t signed up for the Hole in One fund. It would be heartbreaking to finally hit that one lucky shot and not be in the fund.

First place was a three way tie with Omar Diaz, Nick Mardesich and Andrew Pulido sharing the honors. Mike also noted that the Flights Championship matches were moving along, with all September matches scheduled.

Director Omar Diaz (filling in for Matt Huntington) announced that there were 22 players who competed in the Pre-meeting 9 Hole Tournament. First place went to Wes McCollum, followed closely by Pete Douglas and Terry Fulford. The Golfers of the Month were Bret Holloway with a Net 65 and Mel Collins with a Gross 67. Nice job guys!

Director Terry Fulford announced the recommendations of the Board of Directors for next year’s officers. They are as follow: President – Dennis Tramer; Vice-President/Tournament Chairman - Don Didier; Secretary – Rob Kuehn; and Treasurer – Bob Livingstone. The three members vying for the two elected Director spots are (alphabetically) Matt Huntington, Mike Vaughn and Nick Zamora. Additional nominations or anyone interested in running for any office, will be taken from the floor at the October meeting, and the election will take place at the November meeting.

Director/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer discussed the results of the August Three Best Ball Tournament and the Lakewood Away Tournament (which only had 28 players – too far to drive?). Dennis noted that deposits for San Vicente were due not later than September 25. We’re playing The Vineyard on Friday, and San Vicente Saturday and Sunday. This month’s Partner/Partner format will be Scramble/Crossover on Saturday and Best Ball/Count Em All on Sunday. The October “Dreaded Orange Ball” Tournament requires each team to submit their order of play to Dennis so the scorecards can be set up correctly. And he reminded everyone that you must turn in at least one orange ball at the end of the round.

Hi guys, who else is ready for this cooler weather? This month will be the last Putting Contest for 2019 as Daylight Light Saving time will end Sunday November 3.

For the September Putting Tournament the holes were spread out fairly nicely so we played “Count them All”. This month we had (23) players. There was a 9-way tie with 2-under 16 for 2nd place. 1st Place was 3-way tie with 3-under (15) by Nick Mardesich, Omar Diaz and Andrew Pulido.

The October format is yet TBD. But as this will be the last one this year will likely try something a bit different, but still fun. Be sure to get to the meeting early and bring your putter. The PARTNER-PARTNER TOURNAMENT went off well as we had no penalties and only 1 DQ as they signed an incorrect scorecard. Pace of play was good so thanks to everyone for keeping up. Winning the “A” Flight Gross with a 12 under 168 was Omar Diaz and Ryder Epson. Nice shooting boys, Ryder must have played his ass off as I’m sure Omar wasn’t much help. Winning the “A” net at 15 ¼ under par 164.75 was Dave (I guess I am now a net player) Rubin and Terry Cormack. Dave now knows he gets a stroke on #8. In the “B” Flight there was no surprise as the “BAGGING” Marmion boys Roger & Tyler brought home the victory with a nice 18 ¼ under 161.75. Biggest surprise of the Tournament was the Degraaff brothers Henry & Jeff. Saturday which was a Scramble on the front and a crossover on the back these boys shot a 22 under 50 which is by far the best I’ve ever seen. They also played well on Sunday to cremate everyone in the “C” Flight with a 25 under 155. Nice playing gentlemen. As always all the results are on the website.

September’s Partner-Partner Sweeps and Special Events had some nice Points earners. 56 players saw returns on their investments!

Saturday Sweeps had Justin Vanderbroek & Kevin Megill going sub 60 to win A Flight. B Flight winners, Colin & Kevin Boylan edged out Roger & Tyler Marmion. Henry & Jeff Degraaff must have set some kind of record posting a Net 50 Saturday leaving a very respectful showing by Dewayne Kirksey & James Coates (Net 58) in the dust!

Sunday Sweeps A Flight winners Omar Diaz & Ryder Epson overcame giving shots to the field in their win. David Green & Steven Cook won B Flight with the only sub 100 score in the field. There must be something about partners wearing matching clothes as Sebastian Sturdevant & Chris Plumridge won the C Flight again!

Saturday Special Events were limited to the four par 3’s due to the tournament format. Andrew Cochrane dominated A Flight earning points on three of the four par 3’s. Jeffrey Benedetti was the leading point earner in B Flight while Jesse Duncan in the C Flight led the field for Saturday’s points.

Sunday Special Events were good for Bill Hasselman in A Flight as he had a skin and got the Honey Pot (net 69 or better). Corey Smith and Tyler Marmion did the same in B Flight. Chris Plumridge didn’t get the Honey Pot, but he did have the only Gross Skin in C Flight and leads the field in Special Event Points.

Congratulations to our Most Improved Golfer for the 3rd Quarter, Fred Woolfork who dropped from an index of 8.6 to 4.8. Fred was followed closely by Greg Anderson and our own Poobah, Cliff Aichele. A check for $50 will be waiting for Fred at the October General Meeting or, after that, in the Blue Scrip Box. Three more months for folks to work on becoming the Most Improved Golfer for the whole year.

Several Handicap- or Index-related items are posted at the course on the 1st and 15th of each month. In the glass display case outside the door to the bar is everyone's name followed by their CI (Current Index) and what that converts to from the Blue, Combo and White tees. Blue, Combo and White conversion charts are also posted in that glass case. In the hallway by the restrooms is a printout of each member's CI and 6-Month LI (Low Index). We use LI for a few events like the Member-Member and Christmas Tourney. We also use this for any member who has won three net events in the preceding year.

Finally, we had 6 members receive a PENALTY ROUND for forgetting to post their Sunday round in the Partner-Partner. A PEN is the equivalent of posting the lowest of the person's previous 20 rounds. The requirement to post your Sunday score as a non-tournament round from the white tees was listed on the scorecard and Rules Sheet (there was some confusing language on that sheet and we apologize for that - if this impacted you, please let me know).

The October Orange Ball Tournament brought out the love/hate relationship in most of us as it does every year. Wow the power of “Orange.”

We had a fantastic “Weekender” at the San Vicente Golf resort at the end of October. Thanks to Lucero, Dennis and everyone that helped put it together. We had a bit of a shaky start due to the Santa Ana winds, power cutoffs and fires, but it all cleared up just in the nick of time and a great time was had by all that attended.

Big SHOUT OUT to Jay Fleming for making a beautiful hole-in-one on #3 at El Dorado on Friday Oct 25th. I was lucky enough to witness the HIO, but since it was the Friday of the “Weekender” and hardly anyone was around, I don’t think Jay had to buy a single round of drinks! OCTOBER 2019 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 in the Big White Tent. As part of the informal gathering to honor Jerry Leininger, the course provided free appetizers for several hours prior to the regular monthly meeting. RIP Jerry. We will sorely miss the many hours of hard work that you put into this Club for many years. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Vice President Dennis Tramer, filling in for President Cliff Aichele. Dennis led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 90 members in attendance including Past Presidents Terry Fulford, Nick Zamora, Mike Montgomery, Tom Conlisk, Don Marmion, Dennis Tramer, Richard Scoville, and Life Member Bob Livingstone. New member George Kotsenas, who officially joined the Club just prior to the meeting, introduced himself to the group and was given the New Member spiel by Past President Nick Zamora. The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Bob Livingstone noted that current and 6 month LI indexes/handicaps from blue, white and combo tees were posted on the wall outside the bar and/or on the wall opposite the rest rooms. He informed everyone to email him if you have any handicap issues. He also noted that Fred Woolfork had won Most Improved Golfer for the third quarter. Congratulations Fred. Bob informed us that the top three finishers for Most Improved for the Year would be suitably rewarded.

Director Mike Montgomery noted that Past President and long- time member Greg O’Brien was not doing well in his battle with cancer and could use our prayers and good wishes. Mike also informed us that Ryan Huff, a member for several previous years, had suddenly died in a diving accident. Our best wishes to his family and friends. Mike thanked everyone for their kind words during Jerry’s memorial.

Director Don Didier announced Special Event winners for the September Tournament, including the fact that 56 players cashed in one way or another, and then announced the Special Events for this month’s Orange Ball Tournament. We’ll have gross skins by flight, Orange Ball birdies, and North of Willow Plus one (#8).

Director Zamora announced that there was $750 currently in the Hole in One Fund. See Nick if you haven’t signed up. It would be heartbreaking to finally hit that one lucky shot and not be in the fund.

Director Lucero announced that the San Vicente Weekender was full – no spots available.

Director Mike Vaughn announced the results of the pre-meeting Putting Tournament. Aces only was the format this week. First place was a three way tie with John Suttie, Jeff Benedetti, and Greg Englant sharing the honors. Mike also noted that the Flights Championship matches were moving along, with all October matches scheduled.

Director Matt Huntington reported the results of the pre-meeting 9 Hole Tournament, which had 14 participants this month. After a quick reassessment of a semi-illegible scorecard, it was determined that the winner was Nick Zamora, with Wes McCollum taking second and Scotty Davis finishing third .Golfer of the Month honors went to Omar Diaz with a gross 71 and Terry Fulford with a Net 69. By the way – both were the only cards turned in. Wow.

Director Terry Fulford called for nominations from the floor for next month’s election for Club Officers/Directors. There were none. Voting will take place at next month’s meeting.

Director/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer discussed the results of the September Partner/Partner Tournament and the format for this month’s Orange Ball Tournament. November is Superintendent’s Revenge – always an interesting day. Christmas Tournament sign-ups will be by entry form available on line. Sign up early as starting times are limited..

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

Hi guys, is everyone ready for the cooler weather? The October Putting Contest was the last one for 2019 as Daylight Light Saving time ends Sunday November 3.

For the October Putting Contest the holes were spread out fairly nicely so we played “Aces in Reverse”. This month we had (19) players. There was a 4-way tie with 3 Aces for 2nd place. Receiving 15 bones each were Ed Fernandez, Bret Holloway, Tim Mincarelli and Brian Dauk. 1st Place was 3-way tie with 4 Aces. Receiving 36 bones each were John Suttie, Jeff Benedetti and Greg Englant.

The Flights Championships are well underway. We just finished the Semi Finals and set for Championship Saturday November 9! Times are reserved for Championship Saturday at 8:04, 8:12 and 8:20. Players are kept updated through group emails. IMO this is the best tournament as it is all up to you playing heads up against your opponent.

Looking forward to putting together the Quad Club team, and Flight Championship tournament again in 2020.

Well it was another fun day of playing that “Dreaded Orange Ball”. We had some pretty nice scores and once again Mr. Blind Draw proved he is the best player in the Club. Winning the A Gross with a respectable 5 under par 211 was Gonzo, Jeff Thomas, Mickey Miller, Matt Mendenhall & Kevin Megill. Winning the A Net with a nice 19 under 197 was Tim Mincerelli, Sammy Krishna, Bret Holloway, John Suttie & Mr. Blind Draw. In the B Flight winning the Gross with a 15 over 231 was Andrew Pulido, Bryan Knigge, Michael Opera, John Frixione & Mr. Blind Draw. Winning the B Net with a 26 under 190 was Wayne Brown, David Green, Eric Lishka, Scott Dietschak & Steve Cook. The Retterath Bandits strike again. In the CHOP Flight winning the Gross with a 23 over 239 was Dana Pagett, Scott Paul, Jim McCullough, Allen Reinking & Kerry Bryan. For the CHOP Net shooting a fine 22 under 194 was Dale Green, Ruben Gonzales, Pat Serge, Stan Faris & Bill Johnson. As always all the results are on the website.

Coming up Saturday November 16th is the “SUPERS REVENGE” Tournament. This is a fun day as you get to play a slightly different course as we let our super Marc Lilleberg set up the course. Never know what he is going to do but I’m sure you can expect longer holes and difficult pin placements. This is his day after giving us great playing conditions throughout the year for our tournaments. Make sure you thank Marc for all his hard work. For this tournament we play a 3 Best Ball and we will get our HCPS from the Blue slope. The BOD will determine if this will be a postable round after we see how Marc sets it up. If it is, I will post the scores for you.
Check out the website for the sign up slip for this years Christmas Tournament on Saturday December 14th. This Tournament is a 3-some 2 Best Ball & we play as 6-somes. THIS TOURNAMENT WILL BE CAPPED AT 192 PLAYERS! Cost for this great event is $75 to Walk & $90 to ride. REMEMBER YOU MUST HAVE PLAYED IN 3 EVENTS THE LAST CALENDAR YEAR TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNAMENT!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!

There were 34 Orange Ball Birdies. Sorry for any confusion on this event, but very simply, anyone entered in this event that made a birdie with the Orange Ball on holes #1 thru #15 shared in the Orange Ball Birdie Pot.

Well if you haven’t heard, the USGA is undertaking an initiative that will probably impact more people than the changes to the Rules of Golf did: The World Handicap System (WHS) will begin January 6, 2019 (there will actually be a 5-day migration of information where no one will be able to post scores or get their index updated from Jan 1 through 5). You can look them up and more will be added I am sure.

Here are some of the main changes/components of WHS to whet your appetite:

1) Your handicap will be updated every night at midnight of your local time zone, so it will be imperative to post your scores promptly. For our events, we will likely use each person’s index from the Wednesday of the week of the tournament.

2) Your handicap will be figured using the best 8 of your last 20 scores (currently the best 10 of your last 20 are used).

3) ESC or Equitable Score Control (which we commonly refer to as “adjusting” your score on a hole when you make an abnormally big number) will now be net double bogey, regardless of your handicap. So, where now a 24 handicap could post an 8 on any hole, he/she will now not be able to post an 8 unless the hole is a par 4 where he gets a “double pop” or a par 5 where he gets one stroke.

4) There will no longer be an “LI” or Low Index of the past 6 months or the past year. There are “safeguards” built into the new computations that will flag and automatically adjust a person’s index when there appear to be significant drops or increases indicative of someone trying to manipulate their scores.

5) Daily playing conditions will now be figured into handicap computations. As an example, if there are gusty Santa Ana winds or the tees are abnormally far back with tough hole locations, and the vast majority of the scores posted on the course that day are all 3, 4 or even more shots above the averages for all of the players, an adjustment will be made to the computations for that day.

There are more intricate details that we will discuss going forward – or that you can research at the USGA’s website – but hopefully this will give you a taste of what is coming our way. Until then, remember to post your rounds, as we had 9 people on the weekender who forgot to post one or more of the rounds from San Vicente.

Well that’s it. My term as President has just about concluded. Come January 2020, there will be a peaceful transition of power. I leave you in the very competent hands of Dennis Tramer, with the help of the Board. Dennis is ready to put together a wonderful year of golf in 2020 for our Men’s Club. I’d like to thank all of you for allowing me to serve as your President these past two years. It has been an enjoyable and rewarding experience. I would also like to thank the Board for all of their support, we are lucky to be a part of such a great golf club!

We finish off the year starting with the Tuesday, December 10th General Meeting and raffle extravaganza, followed by the Christmas shotgun tournament. We have the course to ourselves for the whole day. How fun is that?

Remember many of you have Membership renewal due before the end of the year. If anyone needs help with renewing, check with any Board Member for assistance.

Sorry to say I won’t be attending the December General Meeting. Work keeps getting in the way of fun. I will, however, be here for the Christmas Shotgun tournament so I’ll see all of you then. Have a safe and Happy Holidays.

NOVEMBER 2019 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner included meat loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn on the cob, salad and cookies for desert. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Vice President Dennis Tramer, filling in again for President Cliff Aichele. Miss one more meeting Cliff and there’s a good chance we’ll kick you out of office starting January 1st. Dennis led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 60 members in attendance including Past Presidents Terry Fulford, Nick Zamora, Mike Montgomery, Don Marmion, Dennis Tramer, Richard Scoville, Tom Retterath, and Life Member Bob Livingstone. There were no new members present. The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Director Bob Livingstone discussed new SCGA procedures for determining handicaps for Team Play events and various others components of changes effective January 2020 relative to handicap updates, including the fact that your index will be updated every night at midnight. You should post all scores as soon as possible after the completion of your round. Bob also noted that Greg Anderson was playing in the California Amateur Senior Championship. Good luck wishes to Greg.

Director Mike Montgomery noted that long- time member Rich Hassleman recently passed away, and requested a moment of silence in his honor. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Rich’s family, including his sons Bill and John, his nephew MIke, his brother Dave (all current or past Eldo members), and his wife Karen.

Director Don Didier announced Special Event winners for the October Orange Ball Tournament, including the fact that 57 players cashed in one way or another, and then announced the Special Events for this month’s Superintendent’s Revenge Tournament. We’ll have gross skins by flight, CTP on your second shot on #6, and three circles on #17 – one for each flight.

Director Zamora announced that there was $775 currently in the Hole in One fund. See Nick if you haven’t signed. It’s probably been a while since you had an Ace so you’re due.

Director Mike Vaughn announced the results of the months long Flights Match Play Tournament. Winners included Omar Diaz, Mark Ziegenhagen, Don Spradlin, Walter Lee and Henry De Graaff. Congratulations to these guys for their hard earned victories. Mike noted the Quad Club was coming up in a few months.

Director Matt Huntington reported that Golfer of the Month honors went to Byron Brno with a Gross 71 and Brad Wilcox with a Net 64. Matt also spoke with emotion about Rich Hasselman, whom Matty has known for as long as he could remember. Rest well Rich.

Director Terry Fulford presented the slate of officers for the next year. These include President: Dennis Tramer; Vice-President: Don Didier; Secretary: Rob Kuehn; Treasurer: Bob Livingstone; Director: Mike Vaughn. As no one else is running, the slate was approved by acclamation.

Saturday Team Play Captain Omar Diaz announced that try-outs would be held on 11/23 and 12/7.

Thursday Team Play Captain Mel Collins announced that try-outs would be 12/5 and 12/19, and that our competition would include Lakewood, Los Verdes and Industry Hills.

Director/Tournament Chairman Dennis Tramer discussed the results of the October Orange Ball Tournament, this month’s Superintendent’s Revenge Tournament, and the format for the Christmas Tournament. The Christmas Tournament sign-ups will be by entry form available on line. Sign up early as starting times are limited. Dennis asked for a show of hands relative to upping the tournament fee from $60 to $65. The result was very positive.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: There was no New Business.

Well it is November already. Flights went well and the Championship matches were played Saturday November 9. These matches were as follows; President’s; Omar Diaz Vs. Scott Davis, Vice President’s; Brad Wilcox Vs. Mark Ziegenhagen, Secretary’s; Don Spradlin Vs. Jim Baber, Treasurer’s; Jerry Johnson Vs. Walter Lee and Director’s; Henry de Graaff Vs. Robb Kelman.

Our 2019 Flights Champions are Omar Diaz (3&2), Mark Ziegenhagen (1-Up), Don Spradlin (2&1), Walter Lee (1-Up) and Henry de Graaff (6&4). Prizes for the Flights Champions, Runners Up, and those that were defeated in the Semi-Finals will be presented at the December meeting.

In 2020 the Quad Club will return to Recreation Park to be played on Saturday April 25. I will be starting to put this team together the first part of next year.

Looking forward to overseeing the Quad Club, Flights Tournament, and Putting contest again in 2020. It is nice to see so many members enjoying themselves participating in these events.

Finally I have the last tournament of my 2 year stint in my sights, and I would like say it has been a pleasure putting together and running these tournaments for you guys. The El Dorado Men’s Club is a great Men’s Club and that is because of all the FANTASTIC guys we have in it. I am looking forward for stint #2 as President, and please take it easy on our new VP/Tournament Chair Don Didier, who will be taking signups for the January Scramble at the meeting.

Now for the “Super's Revenge” which I believe Marc took it pretty easy on us. I would like to thank Marc Lilleberg & Matt Huntington for taking the time to go out and set up the course. Now for the results. In the “A” winning the gross in a 3 way card off at 6 under 210 was Omar Diaz-Matt Huntington-Ryder Epson-Dave Rubin-Justin Vanderbroek. Omar, Ryder & Dave must have played really well to win gross with those other 2 CHOPS! Winning the “A” Net handily by 6 shots at a 24 under 192 was Matt Williams-Eugene Milner-Craig McDonald-Mikio Kelly-Jon Rymer. Nice shooting “Kids”!

In the “B” Gross there was No surprise as the best Father/Son BAGGER DUO in the history of El Dorado Roger & Tyler Marmion along with Shaun Steenwyck-Jesse Duncan-Chris McMonigle got it with a 16 over 232. In the “B” net shooting a 24 under 192 was Josh Dubon-Andrew Pulido-Matt Dao-Greg Englant-Ray Mock.

In the “C” (CHOP) Flight winning the Gross at 27 over 243 were the FAST becoming the Best Brother BAGGER DUO of Henry Degraaff-Jeff Degraaff-Pingo Zamarripa-Bill Henigsman-Jim Cox. You boys are getting a bad REP! And last but not least winning the net with a 30 under 186 was Ken Rademacher-Jim McDavid-Phil Fries-Jeff Nakao-Matt Palma. Nice shooting gentlemen. If you don’t know Ken and his bandits this teams handicap is around 120. When I print their card I run out of Ink as there are so many Double Dots!!! As always all the results are on the website and once again it’s been a pleasure serving you the last to years.

There were 37 players earning Special Event points in this years Super’s Revenge. Nick Mardesich led all players making two eagles (7 & 10)!

B Flight Skins were split between Robert Creighton, Dave Hasselman and Tom Nasuti.

Miguel Espinoza led C Flight by getting a skin and hitting his second shot close on #6. 2’-8” was closest in the field!

The 3 circles on 17 worked out pretty well. Only four players in A Flight hit the inner circle, three in one group! Nine players from B Flight hit the middle circle and seven from C Flight hit the outer circle.

Hi, my name is Steve Cook. I will be taking over as Entertainment Chairman next year. Lucero has finally
been paroled after three long years. Please thank him and buy him a beer for all the hard work he has

I have already completed the schedule for next year including the weekender at Soboba to be
held April 3rd thru 5th & a Bus Trip to The Golf Club of California @ Fallbrook on October 3rd to finish off 2020.

I am hoping to improve participation and I am asking for your suggestions to make these events more appealing to a wider audience. Please help me recruit the members who do not normally play these events to try it. I am looking forward to an exciting 2020.

Note: There will be some changes regarding sign-ups and payouts for the Away tournaments. It will be structured more like the “Home” tournaments.

1. Payment including Skins if participating will be required 15 days prior to the event. (Courses require actual head count from club 10-15 days prior to tournament date.

2. Entry forms will be available on the website with all necessary information.

3. Payment can be made by the Men's Club drawer in the Pro Shop, directly to me at meetings or prior tournaments or mailing to my home address:

4. If you cancel within the last 15 days prior to the tournament, it will be your responsibility to find your replacement or forfeit your entry fee. 5. Payouts will be in the Blue Box by the next meeting or tournament.

Well the last month of the Handicap System we have all grown to know and love is here! Remember that the Handicap System will go down at midnight on December 31st for five days, so that everyone's score file can be migrated to the new World Handicap System (WHS). If you play during that time, you will use your December 15 index and course handicap conversion charts, and once the system comes back online, you can post any rounds played during that time.

Remember some of the key features of the new WHS effective January 1st:

* Your handicap will be updated at midnight every day, so you now must post each round you play on the day you play (no longer a 48-hour grace period).

* Because your handicap will now be based on your 8 best scores rather than 10, your handicap on January 6th may be slightly lower than your December 15th handicap, even if you did not play during that time.

* The "conversion charts" we are used to, will change (in a manner that to my knowledge has not yet been determined, but hopefully will be by Christmas). Under WHS, each day you play, you will either go to www.scga.org or the computer at the course you are playing, and enter your membership number and the tees you will be playing to get your handicap for the day.

* Remember that the new "score adjustment" mechanism to account for abnormally high scores will change. Going forward, you cannot post more than a net double bogey on any hole, based on your handicap for the round and the handicap stroke allocation for the particular hole.

The last item discussed is the Local Rule for Ball Lost or Out of Bounds (if you want the exact language, you can look it up in the Official Guide to the Rules or a Rules App as Model Local Rule (or MLR) E-5: Alternative to Stroke and Distance for Lost Ball or Ball Out of Bounds).

As a reminder, while we do not have this Local Rule for our Tournaments or the 9-hole competition on meeting days, we do encourage it as a way to speed things up for daily play among groups of our Club members.
