The 2024 season concluded with the annual Christmas Shotgun. 179 intrepid members were greeted with a fine December day. The course was in pretty good condition for this time of year, firm and fast. The pace of play was decent given the size of the field and the shotgun start.
Overall, the scores were typical for the Shotgun. Notable performances were turned in by A Flight teams Michael Petersen, Steven Sterry, and Mickey Miller (Gross) and Michael Dugan, Bradley Johnson, and Mario Razo (Net). The B Flight was led by Keith Brown, Kenneth Cheong, and Favian Cheong (Gross) and Jeff Eastwood, Reed Wilson, and Brian Redican (Net). Tops in the C Flight were teams Kyle Eggleston, Aaron Debreceni, and Mark Baldwin (Gross) plus Cary Thomason, Miguel Espinoza, and Jim Olivier (Net).
Sasha Bozic shot a fine 69 to win Low Gross honors with Kyle Eggleston and Dwight Summers besting the field with net 67s. Also of note, our own Secretary Cary Thomason shot an Eldo career round of 77.
Our first event of 2025 is the Fivesome Scramble on the 19th with entries closing on the 10th. This event usually fills up quickly, but there are still some spots available if you want to play.
Next up is the Select Drive on February 16th with sign ups starting on Meeting Night, Tuesday the 14th. Attend the Monthly Meeting to have the best chance to get a priority tee time (be sure to register your presence before the Meeting). This event has a short 152 player field due to the limited daylight hours so organize your team and sign up early!
Remember, the most important shot is the next one,

Special Events
Ken Rademacher Special Events Chairman
The December Christmas Shotgun tournament was completed and the Special Events (SE) big winner was Sasha Bozic with 250 points, followed by Larry Nielson with 220 points. Good shots gentlemen! Even bigger news was that Nick Zamora didn’t win anything. A total of 29 golfers scored points in the December SE.
Just a reminder, all winnings must be picked up 90 days after the tournament. Example is September winnings were removed after December and October winnings will be removed at the end of January and are donated to the Christmas raffle. Also, if you would like someone else to pick up your winnings, just send me an email to let me know. Thanks.
SEs for January 2025 Scramble tournament are:
CTP on the green for all par 3s (hole 3, 9, 12 and 17) $5 / hole. $20 gets you in all SE.
Good luck!
Ken

Congratulations to all the winners and away we go for the 2025 season...
The Christmas Tournament proved more difficult than most events - in fact the median differential duplicated the Super's Revenge mark at plus 4.6, equaling the high of the year. For this event, the threshold for adjustment starts at minus 0.4. Twenty players shot below that threshold with Cary Thomason as the grand prize winner at -6.1. NOTE: All THS calculations are made using "current" handicaps - even when LI6 is used to handicap the event.
When applying the 50% reduction factor off the net differentials, the adjustments for this group range from 0.19 strokes to 3.03 strokes. Only five players will be reduced by more than 1.5 strokes. One point to remember, chances are a good to great round will cause downward movement to your regular Ghin HI, but any THS reduction comes off the handicap for the day the round was played - so the reduction is not a compounding event.
As we look ahead in the schedule, the next two events will utilize modified team handicaps and neither round will be post-able. For this group, if guys play in both, and then the St Patty's Tourney, it will be the only regular/post-able event but will satisfy the three event adjustment period.
I'm sure there will be more questions as we proceed and I'm always available for those who want some answers. Feel free to reach out.
Good luck in '25... Vern
Rules
Cliff Aichele Rules Chairman
Happy New Year!
How about we all start 2025 by tuning up on the basics of playing golf. Play the course as you find it. Play the ball as it lies accept when the rules allow otherwise. Acting with integrity, honesty and courtesy to other players and I’ll add a little to this; let’s all try and leave the course better than we found it by repairing an extra ball mark or two on the green and replacing or filling multiple divots in the fairways without delaying the pace of play of course.
We have one of the premier public golf clubs in SoCal and it shows in our membership! I’m looking forward to 2025 and glad to assist with any rules issues that might arise.
Play it as it lies, The Rules are your friend.
Cliff Aichele.
